Jan and I may disagree vehemently about this subject, but at least I know he is speaking his own mind and not repeating the spoon fed pap regurgitated form some watchtower propeganda machine.   Jan, the Soviets were scared shitless of Regan because they thought he was senile, and borderline insane. It had nothing to do with the Star Wars program. They were scared to death that he was gonna wake up in the middle of the night in a pissy mood, wander into the oval offive an push the button on a whim. When he took in office in 1981 he was allready 70 years of age, well above the normal life expectancy of the average American male. As far as they were concerned he was living in the bonus years of his life, and had nothing to lose by launching an all out Nuclear War. He scared them not with any particular policy, rather with a wild west "I'll shoot you before you shoot me" attitude, and an unabashed hatred of the Soviet Union. As far as they were concerned he was a madman with acess to the "Launch Button". It scared them shitless, cause they couldn't predict what he was going to do from moment to moment.

  Ok Jan, your right. You busted me. The Soviets spent idiotic amounts of scarce capital on defense bacause they felt threatened by by the infamous whale blubber slingers of Norway. By the way, I graduated with a major in Information Technology, and a history minor.

  don't consider this a permanent goodbye, as i'll most likely stop back every now and again to see how you are faring.

  Hey Lisa, I was about to to bid my fairwell too, then I got pissed. I'm not gonna let a bunch of sniveling whiny little bitches of of either gender ruin this wonderful forum for me. I'm gonna stick up for this great country I have adopted as my own. I wish you well, and give your kids a great big hug and tell them how lucky they are to be living in the greatest country in recorded history.

  I'm a Citizen of the Federal Republic of Germany by birth, but I live in the United States of America by choice. I love this country so much I served a 3 year term in the U.S. Army, and if I wern't too old I'd be in a set of BDU's right now to defend the freedoms I have come to take for granted.

  I'd like to remind some of you U.S. bashing skeezbags, that if we had remained as neutral as you suggest we should, you'd be flying a hammer and sicle flag, and worrying weather or not the KGB was gonna come knocking on your door for using more than your monthly allotment of toilet paper.   How could have Rutherford been a 'drunk'?

  i feel that the apostate's claims that rutherford was a drunk to be far fetched.

  on the one hand, they claim that he was so drunk that the brothers at bethel shipped him to san diego to beth sarim, where he stayed drunk out of his mind, then on the other hand, they claimed that he ruled the society with an iron fist, that he was a dictator.

  no drunk could have ruled the society like a dictator.

  When I was in highschool, I wrote a paper on the presidency of Ulysses S. Grant. Now there was a major drunk. Did you know that during a review of troops he was so drunk he fell off his horse and broke his wrist? He bacame so drunk during a world tour, that he wound up having sex with his wife in front of several wide eyed sailors. During the battle of Shilo he managed not to pass out untill the battle was over. So saying that Rutheford couldn't run an organization made up of a bunch of followers who thought he was a direct channel to God if he was an alcoholic, is quite clearly speculation on your behalf.
