I am moving but where to?

my sister told me the other day that at the end of june a friend of her's is moving to detroit and i will need to move out.

i was hurt at first but i understand why now.

she loves children but she has very little patience for them.

Ditto to what RubyTuesday said. About the shopping though, we have several outlet stores in the area and L.A. is only 3 1/2 hours away to the south, and San Francisco 4 1/2 hours to the north. From one single parent to another, Central Coast California is a great place to raise kids and the schools around here have done a really great job with support for my ADHD son. On top of all that, I spent 2 hours yesterday soaking up some sun at the local nude beach where it was 77 degrees.

Something to think about,

Athiests and Christmas?

i was just thinking.

since christmas is about the birth of christ, i know dec 25 was not his birthday, probly born around late sept or early oct. i guess he wanted to be born right before the baseball playoffs and world series, just kidding.

it was the early christian church that appointed dec 25th.

I can't believe you guys are even wasting your time arguing with this guy. BTW Clash I never bothered to relpy to your other thread because is sounded a bit funny to me. Your details were a bit too explicit about the layout of the campus at UC Berkeley. I decided to do a web search and what do you know?????? Every last detail you posted in that thread is available on the web, so the use of these details does nothing to validate your statements. You also asked about weather I finished my degree, and the answer is yes. I graduated with a major in MIS and a minor in history. You mentioned that you have a dergree as well, and for that I congradulate you. However upon reading most of your posts, and analizing the content and writing style I'm wondering from which community college did you get your AA in underwater basket weaving???

What are your current beliefs on God and the bible

when i first left the wts initially my intentions were to continue studying the bible on my own.

but now i really don't see the bible as being a true source of guidance.

as a witness i used to constantly read in the articles that god loves mankind, but how much love could there be if there are so many different religions all claiming to be the right one?

Throwing around the names of universities to lend credence to your statements. For your edification I attended two years at UC Berkeley in 1992-94. Where did you think I got the information in regards to the transformation of the Sumarian creation myths into those of the Hebrews? A great deal of information was also obtained at UC Davis near Sacramento in regards to formation of the Catholic Church, specifically the history of the council Nicea in 325 C.E. I don't seem to recall any of the professors laughing or giggling as the material was presented.

Perhaps you were referring to the Divinity departments at these schools. You see I'm interested in the HISTORY of Christianity, so I took HISTORY classes.

Perhaps you might consider attending an institution of higher learing your self. Perhaps it would give you the ability to see the flaws in your application of logic. There are several schools here in California that offer courses in critical thinking. Perhaps you should look into them.

I just read your post. I'm not sure what point you were trying to make. If you were trying to refute my above statement with a quote from somone who holds the bible to be the ultimate truth, I'm afraid you have missed the part in my post that that states that I do not recognize the authority of the bible.

I posted this on another thread but I thought it was worth repeating.

I believe in god.I do not believe much that is in the bible. I belive the bible is nothing more than a book cobbled together in the 4th century out of existing documents which were edited to reflect the expansionist doctrines of Rome. It is my opinion that the bible is a political document created to further the intrests of the Roman Empire under tha auspices of the Holy Roman Empire. From what I have studied it has become evident to me that that the central figure of the new testament is a compilation of sevral mystical figures of the precedingthree centuries. These figures included, but were not limited to; Jeshua de Pantera and Apollonius of Tyenna both of whom have many of the same atributes as the Christ myth. The Hebrew testament is basicaly a retelling and reappropriation of the ancient Sumarian tales of Gilgamesh which predate Genesis by many centuries. As far as I'm concerned, the bible is a document which includes some historial facts deeply shrouded in mythology. It's primary purpose was to enslave the ignorant superstitius pesants of europe by holding their eternal existence hostage to the rules compiled by the (Holy)Roman Empire.

Others have chosen different paths than yours. Your faith comes from one collection of books the sum of which is known as The Holy Bible. Others find their path in other books such as the Koran, or the Torah. Still others find their spiritual path in the oral traditions of their culture. I know you truly feel that your beliefs are the only ones filled with sacred truth, but so do those of other beliefs. I believe that god lives within each of us and directs us to his/hers/its presence in many diferent ways. You have found your path, and I have found mine. My path brings me peace, I hope yours does the same for you. In parting, let me just say; may we all have peace.

seems that the page view out number the posters who actually reply to the thread.. my guess is that there's alot of active jws who are still active within' the so called "truth" are visiting this forum and reading all the threads.

i don't blame them for not wanting to reply for fear of being found out.. how many of you were still active when you found a forum like this one and lurked around for a long time?

how many of you left the organization as a result of reading this forum or other forums like it?.

I spend about an hour each day reading this board, and have done so for almost two years. With that in mind, look at the number of posts next to my name. I'm an avid reader, but an infrequent poster. For the most part I only post when I feel I have something to contribute to an existing thread, or once in a blue moon I will start a thread when I feel that what I'm thinking may interest or help somone reading it.

Thanks ashi. It still amazes me that I used to be a believer in biblical innerancy. It has taken me years of research and serious self examination to reach the conclusions I have. I freely admit that they could be just as flawed as anyone elses opinions on this matter. I have tried to explain how I feel about what I believe, not try to convince anyone that my views are correct view of reality. Everyone has to discover their spiritual path on their own.

You are right, god will not put bread on your table, wash your dishes, vaccum your floor, or rub your wife's tired back. But, if doing these things bring you pleasure and a sense of accomplishment then you are fulfilling your spiritual destiny. In my opinion spirituality is not about believing in the supernatural, but finding contentment in what what others may find mundain. As far as I'm concerned those who love others, and seek to live in harmony with the universe by doing the things that they feel need to be done without causing harm to others are the truly spiritual and godly people.
