Today at the KH, Hopefully opens my wifes' eyes

the kids were sleeping, and one brother came up to me "is there a microphone on thats picking up some loud noise"?..

i said "all mikes are off except for the stage".

he said "there's gotta be something because the noise is annoying!".

On a lighter note, one of my favourite KH disturbances were two elderly sisters, both with furry hats, one with a hearing aid that used to whistle. When one didn't catch what was being said (quite regularly!) she'd whisper (that was how it must have sounded in her head, but it was shouting!) to her friend "WHAT DID HE SAY ETHEL?" And the other one would whisper back "I DONT KNOW VERA, I WISH THESE YOUNG UNS WOULD SPEAK UP"

Hilarious, sometimes their conversations would make me cry I was laughing so much. Vera would regularly fart in the prayer too, and my little boys would be shaking with the giggles and I would try to dissaprove but couldn't, I mean it was the funniest thing ever!

Are YOU a Risk Taker?

i am, how about you or do you prefer your comfort zone?

being a risk taker doesn't mean you have to put your life literally on the line i.e., did you ever stand up to someone in authority and give them a piece of your mind?

what are some of the things you did that you considered risk-taking?

yes Golf you can dream, but I can share in it....

ahhhh, no I'm unlikely to get promoted, but another manager of mine did commend me once on the fact I went directly to her instead of moaning about the situation like everyone else. I just prefer to be direct. But I'm slightly dissapointed thats' the best risk I can think of...lol.

Off to think of something really risky to do today, might even go out without my coat...

And I have to add, I'm not precious about my children, I expect good standards of behaviour, and am commended often when we go places how good they are..

But I also realise children are children. My brother used to tut and shake his head when one of mine was tired etc and cranky.. Now they have a baby.. oh joy. They have said to me so many times how they had no idea, and I'm sorry, you just cant understand it untl you've done it. These precious things, why must we stifle every little thing, even a snore!! Why not just enjoy them, they are young such a short time, and before you know it they have to sit through those two hour meetings and not allowed to nod off!!.. well not til they're 80!

sorry it has to be said.. you really dont have children do ya!! I can see the difference in posts from people who do and understand how difficult it is, to those who dont, in my experience it was elders and servants who were childless that were the most difficult, they had no idea how hard it was just to GET to the meeting! Sorry, until you know what you're talking about.. you dont know what you're talking about.

Multi-personalities, sounds good, lets all catch it!

i was in a congregation in california at one time growing up, and there was this weird thing that happened.

this woman in the congregation started saying she had multi-personalities.

basically, she had names for all these people living in her mind and she would change into them at time.

A close friend of mine while serving at Bethel got Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (we called it ME here at the time) and a local hospital told her it was much higher among the witnesses at Bethel than in any other group he had observed.

Incidentally I'm not making fun! She was really ill, and it took her years to recover. What I'm saying is this doctor said it was becasue the witnesses just could not rest properly, they'd get a cold and be expected to carry on going, especially at Bethel, and this is what contributed to it developing so the body just shut down.

However then CFS did get 'trendy' and many people would develop it and give it a name, then I'd see them out dancing or whatever and feel very upset for my friend who could often not even get dressed without feeling so weak she had to get back into bed.

What were the reasons you would say it was "the truth"?

just a question, because i'm trying to find out how to bring up good arguments to people still in the borg.... a) what were the reasons when you were (or are) still a jw that you would say that "you were in the truth"?.

b) and what would you say now, that were the reasons that you thought it was the troof?.

a) 1) the prophecies come truth.

For me these were one and the same! I would never have done the JW thing unless I believed it. I thought it was the truth because I had been brainwashed totally to accept the bible, and the JWs interpretation of it. Now I find it hard to believe I believed it! I accepted the NWT therefore I accepted that all other religions were wrong, therefore JWs must be right. Also I was convinced by the fact JWs did not fight in the war, where most of the other organised religions did. And clearly how could they if they were christian!

You know.. now I'm struggling to find believable things that made me believe!, and I feel stupid for ever believing it! And I'm going for the record of how many times I can say the word believe in one post!

Ok Confession, you've got me on that one, yes I realise some will take offense at whatever is being said, it's a touchy issue, and I do know (from being married to someone that had to do the horrible job) that not all the brothers are as reasonable as you. But I also know.. from the other side of the situation, many brothers are very unfeeling in the way they handle things. It just struck me this particular brother was obviously made to feel really upset by what had been said, which also pointed out to me it might not have been handled very well. And also I do agree with Outrade, an infant snoring is hardly likely to be so loud that they brothers cant hear..

Two issues here I feel, the one that the meetings and the KH were dry, crusty and not really child friendly. I have always felt that, and am just glad I dont have to go anymore! And reading some of the examples here about church and how welcome they make the kids makes me feel sad for myself as a child, and my own children. Secondly, sometimes a disturbance needs to be handled (sometimes!) but it can usually be done in love, and a LOT of brothers dont deal with it very well

Childlessness: Missing Part of My Humanity

somehow it just occured to me, i've no idea where this came from all of a sudden, but not being one who's ever had children of their own, i feel the missing portion of my humanity has been lost in this.

those who are biological mothers and fathers have a kinship with thier children that defies the normal comprehesion of those who've never had them.

it came to me while watching a movie tonight, minority report with tom cruise.

Grass is always greener. Dont get me wrong, I adore my boys and dont regret having them.. but I often crave the simplicity of life without children and the freedom to just up and go. however I do understand the not having the choice thing is painful. But I think it's like anything in life, TRY and see the positives, if you really want children, there are other avenues, but maybe you can find things in your life to fill the gap.

When I was a JW I wished I hadn't had children, I felt I was such a rubbish example we were all going to die at Armageddon! Now my views have slightly changed, and I am glad I had them, love them unconditionally and now can support them whatever and whoever they want to be.

simple question: how is territory defined?

If you're asking what I think.. then the elders in the area define it with a map, not only in distance but in how many publishers.. and there needs to be a roughly balanced number of elders, servants, pioneers etc in each congregation. I know this as in our area the congregations territories have all been changed, and then changed again when they realised they were all out of balance. Then they draw in the lines and make cute little maps to hand out for you to work!!

At work a couple of weeks ago, one of the BIG bosses came into a room, judged the situation and said something really stupid. Everyone kept quiet, but I felt really incensed, and I said so. I said they needed to take responsibility for what they had just said, and if they had a problem to outline it and make it clear. There was a hush.. the boss left the room and I started looking through the job vacancies..lol.

A couple of days later this boss was NICE as PIE to me, and I felt some kind of inner victory that they had clearly had some respect about the fact I had actually had the guts to say something when they were just blowing off steam and in our direction.

Guess when I get back after new year and find my P45 it'll be a different story!!
