  Ever go back to a meeting "just for fun"?

  thinking about going sunday...just to see it once with my "new eyes".. what do you think?

  I think it's good to go back with your eyes open. I found the memorial very interesting, I found myself reading all the scriptures with new 'eyes' looking at all the surrounding chapters, giggling about what was said on here about 144,000 and how nothing else in the whole chapter was literal but they decided that number is!!

  I came out of there a lot lighter. I dont have any illusions you could go there and upset anyone, they would just think you were one of those crazy postates and that they were even more right!! But it might be good for your own process, bit like closure.

  Bit like bumping into your ex when you've found a real love, you wonder "WTF did I ever see in them!!

  WT 2005 CDrom

  can anyone help me find the link to the wt 2005 cd, i've been reliably informed it's on the site somewhere for download,

  i asked my little brother and he got all interested and asked which article i wanted to look at and he could bring round the files if i wanted..lol

  didn't like to tell him somehow my 2005 wts ended up in a garden bonfire, not sure how they got there!!!!

  Only things I still have is on NWT of the bible, and my pioneer school book. Thats more for sentimental reasons than anything

  Cant rise to your lofty heights, nobody of the annointed gave it to me! But it's signed by all the people I was there with and the young brother I was CRAZY about at the time (I was 18!) drew a picture in it and said "see ya soon"

  I held on to that faint hope for about 6 months and realised by anybodys definition that wasn't 'soon'

  I learned later he had gone out of the 'troof' and was playing in a jazz band, how shocking!! Maybe I should look him up.

  Input from Christians requested on JWs not partaking

  this is a new concept for me that i keep running into with all of the discussion regarding the memorial: the fact that the jehovah's witnesses make a yearly ritual (their only ritual) of not partaking of the symbolic flesh of christ.

  can any christians comment on the importance in the christian faith of partaking in this?

  and why, would jw's feel the need to build up this rite to have people "pass" it up.

  When I first attended a memorial, I asked what they do with the bread and wine after, since nobody partakes and they said "we put it in the bin" I was quite shocked! I questioned as to whether that was the correct way to treat emblems which have just symbolised Jesus' body and blood, do they stop symbolising it as soon as the service ends? I thought they would treat it with a little more respect - say bury it or burn it. They were equally surprised because they hadn't really thought about it like that before.

  The PO of our cong says he takes the wine home and drinks it, because it is not jesus blood, only a symbol etc etc.

  Haven't seen anyone offer to take those awful crackers home and put cheese on them though..

  Haven't thought before, but I do see this now, that it is very much 'us' and them mentality, I grew up in a congregation where we had several 'partakers' and we watched them with awe...

  Actually I was sober (I think!) But I have to confess the whole burning thing was quite cathartic. I burned all my old books etc, and even my almost new copy of the ministry school guidebook, how naughty!!!! Watching them go up in flames was like taking a huge lungful of fresh air

  Then I coughed, choked, realised I'd actually breathed in a lungful of WT burning smoke and went and got a drink of water!

  geez, it must have been "welcome home, undercover" night at the kh.

  people were lining up to speak to me.

  Well undercover, sounds like another good memorial for you!

  I followed your advice, went in head held high and I could almost see the confusion on some peoples faces.

  One sister came up to me and held my arm and said "you look great, but I wonder, how are you REALLY"

  so I just smiled and said I was REALLY feeling great, and it was good to see everybody.

  Felt weird and yet so at home to be back, almost like settling back in with an old lover because it feels so familiar even when you know it's over. I can see why people hang on to it. But I'm not one of them!

  i've been thinking of how all of our lives have changed from learning about this religion and getting out.

  probably no one has done more to help us understand the truth about "the truth" than raymond franz.

  of course there were others that questioned dates, prophecies and dogma but it was ray franz that revolutionized the organization.

  Personally COC was the first 'apostate' literature I ever read, and the fact it was clearly written by someone who had such love for the bible and even for the organisation helped me a great deal.

  First time I read it, i couldn't actually believe a lot of it! I read it again recently and it helped me even more. Especially the points on the GB and their interference in the sex lives of individuals and how many were DFed but never apologised to when the doctrine was later revised!! The part on malawi was at first hard to believe, I remember as a child praying for the brothers there it was so bad. Now I feel very sad for all those that lost their lives.

  Thank you Ray, i wont say without the book I wouldn't have escaped, but it helped me free myself a lot quicker!

  Dressing for Jesus or the friends at the Memorial?

  i've noticed on many memorial nights that the sisters will dress up like they're going to the oscars.

  some seriously look like they're going to a prom.. do they dress for jesus or the friends to impress each other?.

  what is it about memorial night?

  I'm wondering if this is a US phenomenon? Here in the UK people certainly put on their very smart clothes, but it's generally quite sober, a lot of black and navy blue etc. And I've never seen anyone in a long dress or a hat at a memorial!

  The flowers are really over the top though! Wonder what visitors think sometimes.

  I've just come back, and that announcement was bigged up! It was like ooooh, a special announcement direct from the society, drum roll please.. silence... Then exactly the same crap they say every year.

  Interestingly though, not that many in attendance, just the same old tired relatives and faded ones that are always there.
