Ok, I have sent out my first 10! May be early, but I've chosen the destinations furthest away from me (I'm UK) so hopefully you should get them in plenty of time!

if anyone can help me understand what goes on in the mind of elders?
is there a buddy mentality to protect each other and the flock and sacrifice those who make waves?
ive gathered coming here that may be true.. the reason im asking is because my mother has found herself in a very difficult situation and im really worried for her.
I have actual experience of a very similar situation.
My stepfather was very abusive both physically and verbally, often breaking into wild rages. One day we recorded him swearing the worst kinds of words at us, and played it back to the elders thinking surely this would be the time they would do something about it. But no... the elder we took it to erased the tape and told my mother how wrong she was to usurp his headship this way....
It's one of those stories that unless I was there, I wouldnt' believe.
Unsurprisingly, my stepfather left unchecked almost killed my mother with a kitchen knife, at this point the elders advised her she could now leave him because her life was in danger.. It was the neighbours who backed her up in this incidence and called the police, I think the elders were shamed into it.
She thought she was being faithful, and stayed married to him for 10 years while he terrified our whole family because that was what the elders advised her to do, The day they said it was ok for her to leave, she did. I lost a lot of respect for her and even back then realised her feelings for us were second to her obedience to Jehovah.
So.. long story short, I wouldn't trust the elders as far as I could throw the lot of them

i feel quite giddy making this announcement!.
katie kitten (louise) text me last night at 11.30pm to tell me to tell you all she's had a litter of one.
a little boy, josef jack, 8lb 14oz, born 5.55am on nov 15th.. she apparently had a long and somewhat rough time of it and is gonna be in hospital a day or two.. i'll be the first to say congratulations.

Some really good points.. but dare I say it very 'wordy' and I love words! Lots of flowery language and long words, depending on your friends level of education, it may put him off.
Obviously you know him much better than us and it will probably hit just the right spot.

so, i found out today that my whole family, that is mother, older brother wife and child, older sister and husband, younger brother and wife have gone away together for a week.. previously i would have been right in the center of all that.
this time i didn't even know until after they'd gone.
cant say it doesn't hurt, what a punch to the gut.

Strangely enough it was my ex who asked me 'did you dress up as a witch'... and then admitted the PO had told him, so I think he was guaging if I was going to tell the truth or not. The gossip mill works so well in the cong.
My boys are torn poor things, 12 and 13 and loving halloween and partly envious of me dressing up and not sure if to disapprove or not! Hopefully in time they will see the fun I can have and the restrictions of the Borg.

having almost gotten over my jw ex-best friend telling me she could no longer be my friend, handing me back my spare keys, sending a note and present to my kids with not even a 'dear sam', shunning me in the park, etc, etc she now sacks her immigrant cleaner (who became her cleaner due to my recommendation a year ago) by text message.
cleaner phones her to check out what's going on and she tells her you can no longer clean for us as you work for sam and my husband wants us to have no connection whatever - you may tell her things about us and we don't want that.
charming, another kick in the stomach for me and a great witness to the cleaner (who ironically we found out a few months ago has a father who is a witness!).
I never cease to be amazed.. and at the same time not by these stories. I feel your pain!
My Witness Best friend of 20+ years told me that if I were to remarry (I am currently divorced) she felt in all conscience she could not attend the wedding as she was worried 'how it would look' to others. She hoped I understood.
I didn't, and now we are no longer friends. I was sad for a while, but life is short, and there are a lot of lovely genuine people out there (and on here) to have real friendship with.
Having recently made your virtual acquaintance and seen what a lovely person you are... it's clearly her loss.

now that i can see right through the crap that is the jw religion, i sometimes ask myself - how come you blindly believed all that rubbish for 30 years??!!
i am so annoyed with myself for that - i have a degree, yet i was totally duped for such a large part of my life.
and now that i can see how so full of holes it all is, i kick myself for not seeing it before.
I hear you! I alternate between thinking how could I have been such an idiot, to how come my family cant see what I do!
But I forgive myself, I was raised a JW, never allowed to associate with people who thought differently, and it's serious mind control. I know people who have been 'out' for years and still believe it's the truth, so what we should be congratulating ourselves on is that we are strong enough mentally to have seen it!
Just be grateful for finding out when you did, and the rest of your life, and lay ins on a Sunday morning!
