Are there dangers in being 'spiritual but not religious'? - CNN Article
by Mr. Monday Night inhello friends -.
i would like to share a news article from cnn i thought was interesting.
i'm 'spritual but not religious' person who still believes in god almighty and jesus as his son.

Yep... all of the priests and other holy people walked right past the man in need. It was the unbeliever who stopped and helped.
Ironically, the bible supports the idea of rejecting organized religion.
The Samaritan was not an "unbeliever." He belonged to a different religion. So, the conclusion does not follow.
I think Jesus' point was that true examples of compassion are not tied to one's religious profession (or even lack of it). Sometimes these genuine examples of compassion can put us to shame.

DVD "JW's Faith In Action, part 1 Out of Darkness" Omits! Omits! Omits!
by Wasanelder Once ini've been watching the new dvd and it is a bull fest about russell.
i haven't even gotten half way and they already excluded one very important bit of information.
you'll recall that russell "lost" his faith and "turning away from church creeds and searching for truth, russell examined some leading oriental religions, only to find these unsatisfying".

I should add that I just finished classes today and will have some free time for a few weeks...
I'd love to work on a project like this analyzing a WT history DVD if anyone has one to share. :)

I realize we can't put clips up on You Tube from their DVD. But, selected written quotes from the DVD as part of a review are fair game.
If someone can put together some printed quotes from the script, I'm sure there'd be fodder here for a few dozen video and written critiques.
Perhaps:
Watchtower Whitewashes Their History:
"JWs Faith in Action" DVD -- A Critical Review
Or something like that....
There could be reviews all across the spectrum on this one.

Fascinating.
I wonder if a text of the script will become available?

There is the risk that occasionally the books may get stolen.
I've also seen the books remain in libaries for years until they get worn out.
At any rate, this could be a way for Ray's story to be accessible to JWs in their own hometown.

There was a small movement back in the early 90s to get them into libraries and many were put on library shelves. But, books fall apart or are not returned for various reasons.
Starting a campaign to get Ray's books into libraries again might be a fitting way to memorialize the man who didn't want public acclaim but who was concerned the truth be told.

They can also be obtained from Freeminds.
I found when I have donated these to libraries in the past that it helped to include a brief note with them. I said something like that they are modern examples of banned books and I gave a very brief explanation of how Jehovah's Witnesses have been told not to read these books that were written by one of their former leaders. (Librarians love to circulate banned books!) Keep your note brief and to the point, however.
I know that Witnesses who are searching use public libraries to get information. A few years back I donated Crisis of Conscience to a library in my home town. When I went there for a visit I met an ex-JW who told me that he had read the book I had donated to the library and he had found out that the book had been checked out over 50 times! There are some Witnesses who might be leary of being caught by parents or spouses at apostate sites on the Internet, but reading a book off a shelf of a library is less threatening. And Ray's books are perfect reads for searching JWs.
Besides the money spent on getting these books into the library will go to a good cause!

Ray Franz Tribute
by besty inover at freeminds we didn't want this day to pass without some recognition of the life and death of ray franz.
in view of his stated wishes not to have a memorial or service we hoped for something that he would have liked for all of us to take a moment over.. .
we owe a note of thanks to v for his graphics work and atjeff for the obituary writing - i know neither of them need mentioned by me.. .
