  Need some help writing DA letter

  awhile back i posted my letter severing ties with my jw parents in the members only forum.

  Are you still a Christian?

  How do I answer this? hmmmmmmmmmmm, f**k no!

  No particular religious leaning other than possible pagan interest (to lazy to do the research). Mostly apathetic, just don't care to waste any time & energy on the "who are we..." questions.

  Therein lies my problem, most o f the good DA letters I've read have a fairly extensive listing of the particular dogmatics they disagree with, I disagree with the entire idea of Christianity (but that's a loooong rant I will save for another time ).

  I intended to write a DA letter at the same time, but am having a hard time figuring out how to word it. I basically faded over the last 10 years and have had nothing to do with the JW's in that time. I have refrained from writing the DA letter in the past as I still had some hope that I cuold have some semblance of a relationship with my parents. With the relationship idea out the window, I would really like to take the opportunity to sever all ties with the JW's as I have never been DF'd or DA'd. I feel That this will also underscore the letter to the units, they will have to be willing to deal with me outside the possibility I will unfade (is that a real word?).

  I have sen many letters here and elsewhere that are very well written, but would like more input from the group. While I want to remove myself from the JW's, I don't want to go into any great detail about what beliefs, rules, etc I disagree with. I do want to express my issues with thier overall belief system and their shunning in particular. I just can't seem to put the words to paper so to speak.

  I should clarify, by apathetic I mean; I don't know that there is a higher power, don't firmly believe there isn't (athiest), basically I don't care to dedicate much thought to it

  I identify myself as mostly apothetic with strong anti-christian leanings

  I am moderately interested into looking into pagan background, but not interested in Wicca per se, or joining another "group". I have attended UU a couple of times and been pleasantly suprised (1st sermon was about Mr Rogers).

  well, i have been trying to fade peacefully for months, for the sake of my wife and family.

  to do this, i have had to hold my tongue about most of what i know, and i have done a good job of it until now.

  the other day, i was hanging out with my buddy who misses most meetings, but still believes it's the truth.

  FEELING VERY DEPRESSED, EMPTY. LIFE IS CONFUSING...

  meetings are dragging me down.

  it sucks because i still live at home and have no choice but it has gotten to the point where i have left early at times just because i cannot stand to hear all the b.s from the platform.

  how do i just keep doing what i have to do till i know i can leave?

  Also, for what it's worth, I left home, moved to another state and tried to make a go of it as a JW there. I found that I recieved a much warmer and supportive welcome form my sister's "worldly" friends than I did from the local congregation. The new congo folks wanted nothing to do with me (even tho I was still a good little JW boy), my sister's friends on the other hand, welcomed me with open arms as if I'd been one of their friends all along. The moral of the story is; Even tho it's all very scary now, and you have alot of changes and unknowns ahead of you, you are not going to be alone. You have a good group of people here that will do anything we can for you. And the big scary world we were all taught to fear, isn't a bad place. And you will find more soncere and caring people on the "outside" than you ever could living within the narrow confines of the JW's.

  I'm just so petrified of death. It honestly keeps me awake at night. Is there something wrong with me? Could it be a real phobia or something?

  Stilla, I don't think there's anything wrong with you. Part of what keeps us all from doing stupid things is a healthy fear of death. I also find it highly unlikely that you've developed a phobia, as a serious phobia would be all consuming and impede you ability to be a fuctioning member of society (my wife is a psych student). I think you have some legitemate concerns. You are losing your safety net of beliefs you have been given since birth and, as of yet, do not have a replacement for them. You have also had a fairly rude reminder of mortality. I promise making the break is the hardest part. Aside from the trauma of leaving "friends" & "family" (there is a reason for the "") I have found the world to be a warm and welcoming place. You will be amazed at the opportunities that are open to you. There is more to life than serving a religion.
