my family was playing around the other day, humming different songs from tv shows and getting the other one to guess what show it was.
then we asked what song best describes you.. my family agreed, mine would be ghetto girl, by little bow wow.

I agree with ashitaka and hope it was only that satire.
an emergency meeting has been called by jack dowson at london bethel.
all co's and do's were recalled yesterday and are meeting at 2pm today in bethel (most have left the visiting congregations in limbo.
the meeting is today(starts at 2pm), tomorrow and finishing on friday at 12 noon.
While it has yet to be confirmed; Lets assume this is true.
Why does everyone think this is the beginning of the end? I mean look at the purge after Ray Franz, a member of governing body writes a book to expose them, and they still have growth in the developing countries.
Do not get me wrong, they are headed in the wrong direction and their actions are counter productive. But, the part where the Fat Lady sings is still years away.
in over 4 decades, i have gotten to know a number of people in the organization.i have met governing body members, very prominent bethelites, co's and do's.
i also have come to know countless elders.the majority of elders that i have known are not the brightest human beings on the planet.
most thought they knew it all.
Keep in mind that some Elders are rather intelligent. Somebody in the organization has to have some level of intelligence, or how else can you explain their vast financial holdings. How do they buy land and build Assembly Halls, Branch Offices and Kingdom Halls? For that matter it takes some level of intelligence to print the magazines.
They just choose to believe that they have the truth. They then do some pretty silly things based on this belief.
no, i'm not getting any doubts that the bible is any more than what i believe it is... a myth.
however, i do have a particular question about one aspect that my jw uncle raised during one of our conversations: what about those so-called "prophecies"?
no, i'm not talking about the vague nostradamus-like "statue made of different kinds of crap".
Since no one will be able to find the original texts, we will never know what Isaiah actually wrote. It is clear from reading many scriptures that someone at the least edited the texts.
Mindfield, what is surprising is that some of the prophecies that are very clear did not happen. Ask your Uncle about the prophecy of how King Josiah would die. The Bible clearly states he would die in Peace. He died at the hands of Pharaoh in an act of war. Tell us how your Uncle explains that.

it's that time again!
time for the watchtower to beg for contributions!.
the nov. 1 wt has the usual article with a great big grey box covering two pages.
I think the impact of New Light on tithing on the common JW would be greater than the change in Generations. It would even have a greater impact if they actually tracked the tithing. And that is the reason they will never implement a formal tithing.
They will just depend on quilt, and more guilt.
several days ago i posted a topic about how the newly reinstated could be disfellowshipped again for failing to attend meetings or particiapte in field service.
(this was based on the issue of lacking works that befit repentance.
) i used cautionary language about how this ""can"" happen, but was accused of making "dogmatic assertions" and that the organization book and the flock book never authorize such, and most of all the s-77 form sent into the society would trigger a co visit were it to state such things.
I do not know the date of the change, but mustaches were not allowed for white brothers in bethel in the 1970s. But, Elders & Ministerial Servants could have them in the area I lived. I know I had one. So it must have been the area you lived in.

I was an Elder for about 5-years and most of what presented here is correct. I was one of the few Elders that was willing to stand up to Circuit Overseers. And because of that I have seen the power they can at times control. But, most of this power comes from the local Elders who refuse to go against him and use the only tool they have, which is to write letters to be included with his reports. I have two observations to add:
2. Circuit Overseers do at times get crushed by the WTBTS Service Department.

They do get some money from people who give a standard amount each month. But, it is rare that publisher asks for and receives a donations from the someone at the door. If they were to receive a donation they would give them more literature which defeats the purpose.
I think the real issue is that Congregations all over the world are having problems paying the bills. In the US the high cost of land and improvements required by the local governments; has made the cost of building Kingdom Halls to go through the roof. So the local publishers are asked to meet the local needs first.
can the watchtower ever open its eyes and learn from its mistakes?.
if so, here's a lesson screaming at them:.
stop making enemies.. it's just as simple as that.

Yes you are correct in that it had greatly reduced the increase. And with that the money. What I meant was that it had not impacted the GB viewpoints on any issues. The lack of money one-day may very well change that.

"But I also think the only reason that what Metatron describes hasn't happened is that most people just don't care about Jehovah's Witnesses, who they are or what they do. If that ever changes, and they do indeed anger a group, or a governmental agency then you will see pressure and effort brought to bear on the Witnesses (ala the Catholic church and their sex scandals) and then there might be some new light rather quickly."
You are right; most of the world could care less about JWs and their problems. In some few countries they have been successful in making changes because of human rights issues. But, for the most part they just do not care.
As to being ashamed, I would like to add that they no longer claim to be Jehovahs Witnesses in the door to door work on the first few visits.
