One thing that REALLY bothers me

i was just watching the news about an organization called bundles of love that puts together kits for new parents that can't afford to get things for their newborns.

it was a touching piece.

one of the volunteers talked about why she decided to help out and the first thing that came to my mind was how ashamed i am of how as part of jw i would have instinctively found someway to discredit her kindess as just another worldly person walking blindly through satan's world.

Both my elderly aunt & uncle and grandparents (all lifelong Jdubs) live in subsidized housing by the Catholic Church. When they were fully able they never contributed to such charities but now need to depend on them daily.

Even though they live there I bet they never even give it a second thought about how hypocritical it is. They don't believe in contributing to charities because of what the WTBS teaches but they benefit from them everyday. There whole lives were spent working for the WTBS and what has the WTBS given them back?

The stupidity and hypocrisy of it all really gets my goat < argggggggg>!!!!

i read through the various threads here and often think of how i used to think being a jw.

when i read through the thread about "holidays and birthdays" it kind of took me back to my first time coming to xjw sites.

i use to think that all you guys were evil and influenced by the devil.

I read through the various threads here and often think of how I used to think being a JW. When I read through the thread about "Holidays and Birthdays" it kind of took me back to my first time coming to XJW sites. I use to think that all you guys were evil and influenced by the Devil. Encouraging ones to go ahead and celebrate holidays, viewing the JW religion as a "cult" were all foreign ideas to me. I was shocked to say the least.

Now that's its been over 5 years for me (being out of the JWs) I still put my JW "glasses" on every now & then and look at the posts from both sides. My viewpoints about so many things have changed so drastically from when I first started coming here. I am a totally different person now. I can confidently say I am able to think independently. I am open to everyone's ideas. I have no concrete convictions of what happens after death and other "unknowable" things. I view holidays and cultural celebrations as opportunities to be with family and a celebration of life which is a complete change from how I was programmed to think. I am so happy that I am able to see things from my own perspective rather than having to always second guess myself to see if my thinking is in line with the WTBS or "cult" as I now view the JW religion.

Does anyone ever read through the posts with their old JW "glasses" on and then re-read them with their newfound perspective?

Was it frowned on to plan vacation during the Circuit Overseers visit?

i have noticed in my hall, and others, that to plan a vacation or to be away during any of the upcoming co's visits was frowned upon.

it was said you weren't being responsible and were disregarding the counsel to make that a week of "special activity.".

sometimes, it is not know when a co will next visit.

Not to get off the subject but our last C.O left the "Truff" and committed fornication with a low-hour publisher (young woman in cong.) Then he later was found to have taken up with one of the brothers wives. She ended up leaving her JW husband and moving in with the wayward C.O. Needless to say it was shock to all as he was a very popular C.O. in the area. Guess he got tired of girding his loins, lol.

hummm.....something interesting about me..... I have the uncanny ability to imitate any cultural accent. I can imitate Brits, Austrians, Jamaicans, US Southerners... you name it. I should be in entertainment. I think I missed my calling. Oh yeah, and somedays I speak in a particular accent all day long. It bugs the heck out of my kids, lol.

the september, 2006 km is one of the most special and significant publications the society has released in a long, long time.

well i'll tell you.. exhibit a: on page 1, the official announcement about the bethel layoffs.

hint: it's all blamed on "improved technology.".

Regarding Exhibit C: with all the corrections to that book maybe it will make some Dubs wake up and realize that it can't possibly be "the Truth". I think its pretty brave and "stupid" to give 4 full pages refuting all the previous BS. Why didn't they just print a revised version? It would look a lot less suspicious. Sad, but I think the majority of Dubs will not even question it, just accept it as "New Light".

duh? don't you know the Jdubs have their own language. The "Pure Language". Many of their words are used quite differently than the rest of the world and some don't even exist with regular folks.

Red flags

when i was an active witness i never understood why there were 'annointed' women that would be ruling right beside god and helping rule over the whole earth.

but, they were not allowed or good enough to be 'elders' and just rule over a tiny little congregation.

i know now this should have been a red flag for me...but, i just thought oh well this scripture says that men are to be the head of woman.

Its funny I was just thinking about the "Red Flag" thing today. I always thought it was strange that we were told not to read anything critical of the society. It was strictly forbidden. Even as a kid I thought that was strange. I always thought "if its the truth why can't we read what others have to say whether its good or bad. If its true it's true!

Now I see things so differently and clearly. One thing I thought about was how they change the study books so much. The Babylon book from years ago is completely out of date because it contains so much wrong information that has been proven so over time. The Truth book that is no longer used contains quotes such as "if this system continues within the next 10 years it will be too dangerous to live in" (something like that). I think about the whole King of the North/South issue and how their interpretation was proved wrong. Jdubs must never think about all the major changes that happen over time..or they just dismiss them.

Another Red Flag for me was the Society's view of education. Why was there no encouragement to learn? Surely we still need doctors, nurses, lawyers and other professionals at least until "the end" comes. There thinking (i guess) was we need to rely on worldly people for that. How stupid it all is, when I think about it now.

--------------------------------- ROFLMAO you guys crack me up at my KH they would overuse the word "appreciate" as in "this scripture helps us to appreciate...... " and we can certainly appreciate Paul's words here at (insert scripture)........

well let me see... #1 Field Service

2 - going to boring a** meetings

3 - preparing for boring a** meetings

4 - preparing and giving talks

5 - commenting at meetins (always shy and it made me very self-conscience)

6 - feeling like an outsider in the real world - feeling like an outsider in the cong due to cliques who wouldnt accept you

7 - only encouraged to pioneer or pursue JW goals - Never encouraged to pursue a career that was fulfilling for you as an individual

8 - recreation choices being condemed (parties, going to clubs, watching R-rated movies)

9 - freezing out in friged tempertures in FS trying to place dumb magazines that you haven't even read yourself

10 - the gossiping and backbiting - being spyed on whenever you were dating someone

11 - having to choose another goofball JW to marry since you had to only "marry in the Lord"

12 - going to outdoor conventions in the blazing heat WITH KIDS

13 - Phoney smiling JWs at the hall that you knew didn;t give a flying f**k about you really

14 - feeling guilty about EVERYTHING and never measuring up

15 - the whole DF/DA thing (never agreed with that at all)

16 - walking to the KH when I had no ride

17 - JW funerals - when the dead one is not even acknowleded (talk is only about serving Jah, blah, blah, blah)

18 - horrible "Kingdom Melodies" - JWs have the worst religious music of any religion IMO

19 - having to wear pantyhose in the summer

I'll stop here ----but there is so much more!!
