get to talk to each other? If two DF'd people saw each other on the street and both knew the other was DF'd or DA'd would they speak to each other?
I know some still live by the JW code of conduct and would be afraid to speak to the other person... but why? they're already out of the borg at this point. What should it matter? Have you ever known about a case like this? Or if you are DF'd or DA'd how do you act towards another XJW that you see out in your travels? Do you speak to this person not knowing where they stand in their beliefs?
My DF'd family members have moved away from my town and I don't know if I should call them or not. I am a little afraid that they will tell me "you know you should not be speaking to me - I am DF'd"!
Personally, I am not DF'd DA'd (just faded) but they know I am not living like a JW (that's for sure). Do any of you have a situation like this or know of someone who does?

I say
1- the mind control [being told what to do, how to do it and when to do it and the endless list of all you cannot do]
2- discouragement of individuality which causes depression and a crushing of the spirit
3- the pressure to be so different from the world which causes you to feel like a social outcast and tends to make you socially retarded in regular life (mostly for those of us born and raised in it) ie. not taking part in holidays, birthday parties any and all cultural practices (4th July, Thanksgiving, Mothers Day etc).
4 - the pressure to always have something to do for the borg (meetings, FS, study, assemblies). Being so busy with hardly no time to rest, spend time with family, relax or enjoy life
5- No participation with charities to help people in the world right now. They look for every problem to be solved by "the new system" and have little (NO) concern for people's needs right now. They dont provide scholarship money to young people, provide no retirement plans for those that spend many years slaving for their cause. And, they disregard you at the drop of a hat (even after many years of service if you make a mistake and "sin"), by DFing your butt.
6- Blood policy - Stupid! Enough said!
7 - not acknowleding when they're wrong. Doctrines are changed overnight and the R&F are supposed to just accept it as "new light" without questioning (i.e. generation change, voting, blood policy-allowing fractions now)
8 - Not worshiping God - There meetings are just like (as boring) as corporate meetings. You sit and try to stay awake. Since I've left the jws I've seen people actually worshiping God in church. They are emotional , pour out their hearts, give experiences of how God has helped them, they hug you without even knowing your name. They dance and sing loudly and joyfully. IMO that was a grander demonstration of faith and worship than I've ever seen at any KH ever!
I could go on and on............ so many things Wrong with that religion!!!

Is throwing away scholarship $$s still...
by Trippin2962 inwildly applauded at assemblies these days?.
i haven't been to an assembly in years and wondered if this is still the case.
i remember sitting and hearing a young person state that they declined a scholarship or university education to pursue "spiritual goals" and everyone would burst into applause.

I always thought they were really stupid, so I would sit there with a smirk on my face and arms folded. Anybody here still attend assemblies that can answer this question?. I'm really curious.

J-dubs all about appearances
by Trippin2962 ini've read a number of post here that make the point that as a j-dub a lot of decisions are based on appearances and not real christian love.
if no one really knows about it the elders will sometimes only privately reprove such a person.. this is so wrong!
especially in the case where a woman (girl) gets pregnant.

I've read a number of post here that make the point that as a J-dub a lot of decisions are based on appearances and not real christian love. For example when one commits a sin the elders view as worthy of DF'ing they may or may not DF' the person depending on how many people know about their "sin". If no one really knows about it the elders will sometimes only privately reprove such a person.
This is so wrong! Especially in the case where a woman (girl) gets pregnant. She is always "automatically" DF'd because people know or will eventually know of her "sin". Instead of whether "God" truly sees that this person is "repentent" or not, they consider how "people" will view her and the "organization". I have known many cases where the girl is automatically DF'd in a case like this , but the (JW) guy involved with her is not DF'd at all (just privately reproved)-- mainly because his belly will not be showing the evidence of his "sin". How can they possibly justify this? It should be (as they say) if a person is "repentent" they should show mercy and just talk to them and readjust their thinking.
Personally, I still believe in God even though I am no longer a JW and I believe he can forgive your sins in an instant by prayer alone. I don't believe a person needs a body of elders to determine if they are sorry for what they've done. That's one reason I don't believe in the the whole DFing process. And on top of that, a person has to wait 6 months or 1 year to even be considered for reinstatement! That's such a load of BS. I dont believe God himself has a timetable like that for forgiveness. I believe he can forgive in an instant. Its all man made rules as far as I'm concerned.
If the elders were truly only interested in helping people and trying to determine their hearts and based their decisions on such, they would not have such an unfair rule as this. I have a close JW relative that this has recently happen to. She got pregant and was DF'd but the guy was not. Also 3 years ago the same thing happened with a close cousin. This is so unfair!!!

Name Things Witnesses Make Big Deals Over
by minimus inhave you ever seen a witness get absolutely giddy over placing a measly tract with a neighbor and get up on the platform and tell the "experience" of how the neighbor actually said that he'd read it!
big deal!!!.
in our hall, they loved to applaud over the dumbest things!

SEX! a.k.a. fornication
all the reproving, getting DF'd and all the gossip over who's sleeping with who is so stupid and unnecessary. So much is made over what people do in their own private lives. makes me sick how they want to always be in your business and DF young people left and right over this!

What is your idea of worship?
by journey-on inwhen i was a jw, my idea of worshipping god was to put in at least 10+ hrs.
in fs monthly, attend 5 mtgs per wk, study for those meetings, make back calls (or what is now called rv's), conduct bible studies, have a family study once a week, pioneer when able, go to all the assemblies, etc.
what, if anything, do you consider worship?.

Hello everyone-
I often lurk here but hardly ever post, but I had to state my opinion on this topic
I never thought of the meaning of worship as a JW (all my life) until after I left. Of course after being a JW for a long time most people don't want to even think about going or joining a church but I actually attended my first church service about a year ago. My boyfriend convinced me to go with him. I must say that my feelings after attending was that I actually saw people "worshiping" in the true sense of the word (my definition anyway). I saw people praying heartfelt prayers, lots of emotion, singing with great feeling, people hugging one another, smiling (real smiles-not the phoney JW kind). I saw people being moved by the sermon -- these people (I felt) were really "worshipping". I have attended other churches too on a few occassions over the past year and I always come away with that same feeling... that these people are actually worshipping -- not just attending a meeting -- like I did going to the KH. There is a big difference. I am still not convinced that any church has the "truth" 100% but I do feel that people worship God in different ways but JWs don't really worship at all -- they only give "service" like one would give to a employer or something.

thats a great bit of info for newbies here.
I remember the first thing I checked was the Watchtower's Purpose statement that they suddenly changed without any notice to members. They changed it from how the Watchtower points to the events that take place before this generation that started in 1914 ends. Then after 95 it didn't mention that year at all - mainly because their prediction of the generation ending's time had run out in 95. Can anyone clear this up for me? Can someone post the old WT purpose vs. the newer one?
I remember digging out old watchtowers to see it for myself. Seeing it with my own eyes sent a chill up my spine to know that such a huge change had gone virtually unnoticed by me and most JWs. This change was majorly significant to the whole religion and I would have never known anything about it if it had not been brough to my attention by the people from this site. It was certainly not mentioned in a talk or by any JWs. This made me painfully aware that there are indeed strange things that go on unnoticed by most. Then as I dug further I found a whole avalance of proof of cooky and inconsistent things within the org.

What reached you first
by Wendy_Warden inwhen those of you were still jw's what was the first thing that began to open your eyes to the emptiness of jw church?
what spoke to your heart about the truth?

it was a lot of work for me. Getting kids ready for the meetings, studying for the meetings, FS, assemblies, along with working a full time job. I always read that Jesus said his load was light, but in this religion it was anything but. My load was a MF and I just gave up. My marriage fell apart and the elders were not there to help. There was no love in the congregation, only condeming, judgemental looks from the so called "friends". On top of all that, I never felt good enough no matter how much I did, and was continually beat down at all the meetings for not doing enough.
I eventually chose (what I thought was death) for a short period of normalcy in the real world. I found the XjW sites and discovered my doubts and questions were shared by many others. I was relieved to find the truth about "the truth" and all of you. I now feel fully normal (well, not quite) after about 9 yrs of research and posting here and other sites. Thanks guys.

One thing that REALLY bothers me
by Abandoned ini was just watching the news about an organization called bundles of love that puts together kits for new parents that can't afford to get things for their newborns.
it was a touching piece.
one of the volunteers talked about why she decided to help out and the first thing that came to my mind was how ashamed i am of how as part of jw i would have instinctively found someway to discredit her kindess as just another worldly person walking blindly through satan's world.

I hardly ever post here, but read often
Both my elderly aunt & uncle and grandparents (all lifelong Jdubs) live in subsidized housing by the Catholic Church. When they were fully able they never contributed to such charities but now need to depend on them daily.
Even though they live there I bet they never even give it a second thought about how hypocritical it is. They don't believe in contributing to charities because of what the WTBS teaches but they benefit from them everyday. There whole lives were spent working for the WTBS and what has the WTBS given them back?
The stupidity and hypocrisy of it all really gets my goat < argggggggg>!!!!
