Children who claim to remember past life

Anyway that thread just ask for opinions, which I got, even if they were ill informed. I will go back to that thread if I get some comments that show some insight, or aleast show they have given what they post some thought.

On your other thread, I challenged the credibility of the account of a 2 year-old boy "recalling" his past life. Kids his age could not possibly speak as eloquently as he did. Were my comments ill-informed? Lacking insight? Did I show a lack of thought? If so, how? If not, why did you not address it?

If you expect people to give your arguments some benefit of doubt, you should at least be prepared to extend the same courtesy. But if you're dismissive of any criticisms towards "evidence" of past lives, should we take you seriously?

Really, Moo? Were you not a Witness for very long, if at all? I remember questions like these intrigued me as a kid. This and questions about dinosaurs. lol.

IMHO though, the basis for concluding how long animals will live in the new system is plagued with holes.

You see, human lifespan and subsequent mortality is conveniently explained by the doctrine of sin and redemption. But how does the Bible explain the VARIED lifespans of non-human organisms?? There are trees that live for a 100 years, and there are trees that live for many thousands. There are turtles that live for several hundreds of years and there are fishes that only live 59 days! You'd think that for creatures that were COMPLETELY unaffected by Adamic sin, they'd have more standardised lifespans. After all they were all created on the same "day" and were all declared "good" weren't they? So how did they come to differ by so much?

What did the little pygmy goby fish do to Jehovah Almighty that the giant sequoia did not?

So if the Bible's record cannot account for such extremes in lifespans, why should we expect it to tell us how long they would live in the "new world"? The WTS did the Bible a great dis-service by making these assumptions.

The Creator gave life to both humans and animals. But for how long were they to continue to live? Scientists report that humans seem to have the potential of endless life, so that investigators are perplexed as to why man dies. The Bible gives the reason. It says that the Creator gave the first humans the opportunity of living forever. Death came only because they rebelled. (Gen. 2:17; 3:17-19; Rom. 5:12) What, though, of animals? They are not capable of conscious rebellion against God; yet they live only for a length of time and then die. Hence, it is clear that the Creator never purposed that individual animals live forever. For them death was natural.—2 Pet. 2:12.

So in no uncertain terms (to my knowledge this "light" has not been given a "new shine"), the GB tells us that animals will keep dying. Nevermind that natures decomposers will be allowed to retire.

We will basically see large decrepit elephants collapsing into fresh fountains of waters, dead pets falling into our banquet of well-oiled dishes, and cranes crashing into roofs when they croak. Sounds like a game hunter's paradise to me. Carcasses that won't rot, rigor mortis sets in, everyone can start their own Smithsonian collection!!

One young 2-year old in Oklahoma, insisted that his name was Jimmy but each time he would be told ‘No, it is Jeremy’. Jeremy saw a picture of a wagon in a book and told his grandmother, ‘The wagon hit me. I was dead and I was angry with the man who drove the wagon.’ Another time he asked his father, ‘What’s wrong with your back? Is it killing you? My back got hurt one time and it killed me.’

Btw, may I just add that this 2 year old is one freaky child in his speaking abilities, nevermind his past life!!!

I'm led to believe that at that age, a 2 year old initially manifests single word speech with lotsa holophrases. Holophrases are simple words employed by kids to imply more than they mean. e.g. "Water" is used to mean "I want water" or "There is water!" Yes that is how they are supposed to talk. "Water!" "Potty!" "Daddy!"

Single word speech is then gradually replaced with Two word speech (telegraphic speech). e.g. "Mummy car", "naughty baby". Note that articles like "a","an","the" are often ommitted, thus the speech resembles that of a telegram.

A 2 year-old child would know on average about 50 words.

He/She will only progress towards using multiple sentences at age 4.

I know these are estimates, but it's a rough guide of what to expect. So like I said, the two year old mentioned would make a fascintaing subject for developmental studies before anyone would care about his past life.

Romy's case would indeed be baffling if we take everything the author says as Gospel. But it isn't Gospel now, is it?

That experience is not exactly "scientific evidence". No measurements, no controls.

1) Believers say these recollections of past lives are very very common. But the same assertion can be made of people who claim to have seen a UFO or who have seen the tunnel of light in the alleged limbo between life and death. Must we also believe these claims because they occur frequently?

2)

The book that I choose to read on the subject are written by those with Phds, that have there academic careers at stake.

Oh there are many, many experts out there who would tell you anything you want to/ dread to hear. From how the damage by greenhouse gases have been exaggerated to scientific proof of God's design in nature. Their credibility should be determined by their arguments, and not solely by what precedes their first name.

At four she had spontaneous memories of being Joe Williams.....She went into great detail about her past experience and her / Joe’s mother Louise (Bache, 1). Is it possible for a four year old to make up such an elaborate story with her facts matching up to this man’s life?

It is unlikely. But the narrative fails to address these questions:

1) Did little Romy specifically identify herself with a Joe Williams, or was that life-matching the efforts of observers?

2) Little Romy may have previously known NOTHING, sought NOTHING about Joe Williams, but what about her parents? Grandparents? Siblings? Might her family have planted false memories in her? Can we presume the innocence of a 4 year-old in the adults around her? Why?

i would rather pity them for being naive fools.

such incidents make them feel like martyrs that have the truth.

I have faced the ugliest of the church members at the doors. Yelling at me or slamming the door in my face even before I had a chance to say anything. A misguided JW is still a human being. The least they could have done was to say "No, thank you." Did they think that by being hostile they would show me that my beliefs were wrong?

And that is why I am very cynical about Christians who try to make converts out of exJWs or JWs on their way out. These so-called Christians are no better. Oh sure, they may think that their doctrines and interpretations are more orthodox, but in the end, what really matters to society is whether your religion makes you a better person to live with.

Who gives a rat's a** if the Trinity doctrine is or isn't Biblical when your manners are appalling.

Finally out of Hiding

well i finally came out and told my parents i did not believe in the wts doctrines.. for me the last straw was seeing honesty's simple clear proof of the wrongness of 607.

Do scientists know why humans are senescent? Yes and no.

The assertion that science is completely clueless about human aging is laughable. Like Auldsoul said, the shortening of chromosomal telomeres have been attributed as a possible cause for aging. Is this the sole reason? Does making a drug to prevent the shortening of telomeres necessarily mean a solution to human mortality? Or are there other factors to consider? Those questions remain to be answered.

Btw, Auldsoul, I didn't miss the fact that you said "(chromosome) is designed to have a terminus". Tsk Tsk Tsk

The real problem with the WTS referring to the lifespan of trees and turtles is the presumption that other animals necessarily live longer than man. Sure, it's absolutely fantastic that certain organisms can live for eons. But why has the WTS conveniently ignored the fact that there are fishes that only live for 59 days (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/4530959.stm )? Or trees that only live for 122 years ( http://www.rmtrr.org/oldlist.htm ), being easily beaten by the longest living human ever recorded ( http://www.grg.org/Guinness2002.htm )?

How would the WTS (or in this case, Shador's well-meaning Dad) explain the confounding brevity of these organisms' lifespans? Are THESE, LIKE THE SINFUL DESCENDENTS OF ADAM, NOT LIVING TO THEIR FULL POTENTIAL???

How shall we CONTORT the doctrine of sin and aging to explain their senescence? Did an ancestral tree or ancestral fish ALSO eat a Forbidden fruit? Have certain plant or marine species SINNED against Jehovah? Has He anointed a Tree Messiah or a Fish Messiah to save them?

Knowledge empowers us, doesn't it?
