And this was how it was a little ok to go to college...
by Inquisitor ini don't know how the situation sits with the congregations these days in light of certain overt anti-education directives.. see seeker4's thread fallout from gb anti-college.... but where i grew up as a witness... there was an unwritten loophole (among the r&f) that made going to university "palatable" to the witnesses.. if you were going to uni to be trained it certain professions it was deemed worth the sacrifice made.
it was believed that:.
lawyers could defend the wts from the menace of government oppression, aiding in the release of incarcerated bros and sis.. lawyers would have sharp oratory skills.

Gay Marriage - The War for Equality
by Inquisitor ini've just read lola28's thread "for those against gay marriage".
i thought i should present a clear message on what i think the gay marriage issue is all about.
the trouble with most discussions on this issue is that it gets clouded by a plethora of side-issues, non-issues, cave-men chest-thumping and medieval puritanism.

"Knocking" documentary to air in Australia this weekend
by Inquisitor inabctv to air "knocking" doco on compass this sunday 18 may 08 at 9.05pm.
we may have an objection (or several) to the contents of this documentary, but at least it's a starting point to get people talking about jws.
they rarely get media coverage.

Pre-Flood ages based upon different calendar?
by Inquisitor inthere is almost a whisper somewhere on the net that the reason ancient patriach's like noah, enoch, methuselah lived so long is because of a gross miscalculation.
their ages were based upon a calendar that was a lot shorter than ours, hence their years could be twice as long.
i've been looking up for reading material but could only come up with flared-nostril apologetics; fundies insisting on the literalism of the scriptures.. this reasoning about an alternate calendar is conceivably the work of christians who read the bible metaphorically/symbolically, not goat-sacrificing atheists.

Graves of loved ones - JWs allowed to visit?
by Inquisitor inthis is not a question about attending funerals.
is it permissible for jws to visit the graves of their loved ones if they merely want a moment's reflection on the departed?.
is it permissible for jws to do this on the anniversary of the death?.

JW-speak "fleshly" so-and-so
by Inquisitor ini suppose another way of telling that a person has spent some time in the halls of jehovah is the inclination to use the term "fleshly".
has it occurred to you yet that people do not generally refer to their biological siblings as a "fleshly" relative?
there is the occasional "yes, he/she is my flesh and blood".

Elders' wives and elders' kids - any different from the RnF?
by Inquisitor inelder's wives - the general impression of them in my congregation is that they are not to be messed with.
ews are all smiles in front of guests but brutally unaccomodating to more familiar brothers and sisters.
they put much effort in making "good" comments at the meetings, with the occasional veiled insult directed at certain individuals (i suppose this is the only outlet for a lady in jehovah's patriarchy).
