Read your post and the link, yes I agree that we have to be extremely careful about what we swallow from the media but that link is another good example of suggestive manipulation itself,Why! because their were many suggestions and assumptions but no evidence to back up the claims presented of some sort of conspiracy theory, yes I agree dont get carried away by a wave of emotion and loose you sense of direction but this link is feeding on the very hype it claims to condemn.
As for JW indoctrination techniques,I was brainwashed myself as many other posters on this board had been but have been de programed after recognising the clear teqniqes they used to manipulate us and our decision making in the past we know the score now.

I studied the The Paradise Book...

I remember so much studying that book at a very young age, those pictures stuck so vividly in my mind of the kid with the doll and the little doggie and the all that destruction and fear,I can remember an assembly speaker forcefully saying,'Children,Dont think you will survive Armageddon just because you are young.'
But Fred Franz who had a lot to do with publications of that era when relying to the question ,would even the little children die at Armagedon said,'Nits become lice and little rats become big rats. That is the hard faced rationalizing behind this book.

A question of loyalty.
by sleepy inwhat is the most dangerous aspect of jehovah's witnesses?.
well last night i watched on the news how another terrorist killed six people at a party in isreal.avenging the deaths of his fellow palestinians by killing innocent jews.. he was being loyal to his dead friends and the political / terrorist organisation he belonged to.. last year we watched when how an organisation encouraged people to drive planes into buildings at the expense even of their own lives.. how much of that act was hatred and how much loyalty to a cause?.
i believe one of the most stupidly dangerous things you can do in life is allow someone else to dictate what you think.

If we tolerate this then our children will be next
by sleepy inif we tolerate this then our children will be next.. we have got to put a stop to this mad organisation.. giving people false hopes taking away thier lives , their free will.. i lost 27 years of my life to jehovahs witness from a newborn baby my mind was filled with their teachings , i was going to live forever never going to die .. all life was to be centered around the truth.. i trusted these people and all i got was a kick in the teeth when i questioned it.. there has got to be something we can do , lets not let our hands be tied .. i dont k now what can be done but if we don't do something soon the org is just going to change people will start flocking in again and more lives will be ruined.

Hi sleepy
When I left the Borg in 1996 I felt so cheated that they do this and get away with it,I felt for all my friends and family who trust the borg so much but are just being abused for their trust,I was desperate for things to be done about it ,so myself and a another ex witness and a couple of cult outreach friends did some demonsrations outside the kingdom hall and assemblies with billboards with motifs like'THIS Religion Is A Snare And A Racket' and Millions Who Were Told They Would Never Die Are Now Dead,we played assemly tapes over a PA of what they said about 1975 etc,we distributed leaflets in the neighbourhood warning of the danger joining the cult would have on life and liberty, and took part in a BBC television documentary about the cult. I certainly think some good was achieved in educating the general public, and it helped me personally to get some baggage of my shoulders from all those years of religious tyranny and move on,so now I have calmed down a bit and am getting on with life as we have too but I still have the same feelings as you and will do what I can to expose this cult but I feel it is important to not let it become an obsession -

'Time' not a constant in the Universe!
by Outaservice inwhen i was a good old jw, going out in service, counting my time, i noticed something strange.. i could drive to one side of the county, make a back-call, and then drive clear through town as slow as i could and then out of town to the other side of the county to make another back-call.
the total time it took to do this was about 6 minutes!.
if i was not out in service and was trying to rush, say to a movie, it took at least 45 minutes to get through town alone!

Have you ever seen witnesses out preaching in a rush,I just spotted some down the road walking at a real snails pace in an attempt to spin the time out,It shows that counting time annd getting brownie points is more important than the mission of preaching, where is the real supposed urgency to get the preaching done before the end?

How Long A JW ( Baptised )?
by hillary_step ini frequently read on this board that somebody has 'been a jw for over 25 years' and then learn that they are in fact 25 years and three days old.. i am very easily confused, in fact i actually got inside a car of similar color to my own recently and spent at least five minutes with a furrowed brow trying to force my car key into its ignition, fortunately, i realised my error before i was arrested.
so, just to humor me, can you all post how long you were/are baptised jw's?.
thank you -- hs.

Just in tune with Priscas post,In all honesty I think the actual baptism as a JW has little relevance to anyone but the Societys lawyers who use it against you if you protest at cruel treatment ,as baptism is seen as accepting club dictates.
It is the mental indoctrination process that traps you in there mind set and this usually occurs well before baptism, the questions you go through before you get baptized which are supposed to prepare you and teach you are about more about what they forget to tell you about the religion than anything, even so, some people never get baptized but are trapped by this mindset and need deprograming,I know a JW study so screwed up by guilt that he would not be able to reach the requirements of the 'Truth' he hung himself before he got baptized.
I did not get baptized until I was 19,but the constant fear of destuction at Armageddon, the affect on my goals and education, all sorts of things the religion profoudedly affected me from a very tender age. -

Your letter addresses the real problems, there is no nice way of telling anyone they are being duped by a manipulative cult, they speak to you of 'The horrible world,'but demonstate in their letter one of the worlds biggest problems, prejudice due to sectarianism, they cannot accept you if you dont embrace their religion,if you are not in our religious club we cannot accept you and treat you as family or even as a decent normal human, very loving,eh!

Just some thoughts on watchtower criticism
by sleepy inthis is part of a letter i may send to a friend.. i'm starting to have some real problems over my stand in regard to the society, and i'm starting to get angery with people.. i will tell my story soon.its nothing different or special, i just what to get it of my chest.. anyway in my anger i have written this to a friend.the letter is not written in an angrey tone , it just may be counter-productive to send it.. in your letter the point was raised should i be critical of the society.
this is in line with what the aug 1 2001 watchtower said pg.14 p 8 ...a mature christian ....does not advocate or insist on personal opinions or harbour private ideas when it comes to bible understanding.
rather he has complete confidence in the truth as revealed by jehovah through his son jesus and the faithful and discrete slave.

It is a good letter, well put,it may or may not do any good but as they say ,nothing ventured ,nothing gained,Go on,get it off your chest and send it,I remember what really stuck into me which got me out of that cult was comming to realize the actual indoctrination and manipulation methods the Watchtower used to control me,I think that does far more good than arguing over scripture interpretations.
