should prostitution be legalized?
by John Doe inthink of all the unprotected prostitutes in the world.
if their profession were legalized, they might have access to retirement plans, medical insurance, regular health exams that would protect not only the girl but the client also.
courts and society have traditionally held the body as something sacred that should not be sold, but are people not selling their bodies when they make pornos or pose for pictures or make movies or any such things?

Help ! Two of my boys (13 and 10) want to become publisher
by Ancientofdays ini know this day would have arrived , sooner or later.. .
i'm inactive from 1 year now, and i go to the meeting just sometime on the sunday.. but my wife is in a very well standing , and the kids are following her at meeting and service field.. .
yesteray evening my wife told me that my 2 boys asked the elder to become publisher.. they are 13 and 10 age.. the elder was very polite , and ask my wife to have my opinion regarding this.. i'm going to talk the oldest boy (not taking in consideration the 10 yrs old one).. i would like not to be so drastic and not offend him, but i have to start some point to tell him some truth regarding this organization .. any suggestion ?.

I am definitely on the side of those above who have proposed a hard line approach to it. Think of it as if your wife is saying, "our children want to start shooting up heroin." You should be mild in your approach, like forbidding it, but not coming out and saying that it is forbidden, kind of like the WTS did recently with its new policy on personal study.
Also, \encourage your kids to endulge themselves in things that they like: baseball, video games, little league, forming a rock band, learning to dance, going to dances, week-ends away camping. Make their life outside the org a really really fun life. Spoil them. Make service drudgery. Make it as boring as possible. Go out with them and yawn a lot. Use your body language to tell them what a boring life they'll have if they become a Witness.
Have a goal of phasing out all Witness contact. I mean really, how could you let them go to the meetings when you know better? Flash bulletin: Cults are a bad thing. You want to avoid cults and protect your children from them. That is why they are called a cult - they are socially destructive and will destroy your family. It's inevitable if they become Witnesses.
Bottom line: Don't let it happen! -

Visit From The Elders
by Lloyd Braun in"well, are we stopped?
" (dark helmet) ... "we're stopped sir" (colonel sanders) - spaceballs 1987. the inevitible and imminent visit that i had hoped was going to be quite a bit further down the road from now has just occurred.
i am growing paranoid while at the same time welcoming this.

Try to put them off for as long as possible. I delayed my meeting for about 5 months once. I told them I was traveling etc.

Spirituality vs. Religion - what's the difference?
by truth_about_the_truth inhere is an excerpt from a book called "fresh wisdom-breakthrough to enlightenment" that really hits the point:
the con of religion
we have never met a christian who has given up everything and followed christ.

I think the concept of spirit is manmade AND religious in nature. First of all, spirit needs to be defined. But defining spirit is just as impossible as defining God. In fact, I defy anybody here to be able to define spirit - what it actually is. Here is a start, but as you'll see, it is given synonyms, but you still don't know what it actually IS:
spir·it n
1. a vital force that characterizes a living being as being alive
2. somebody’s will, sense of self, or enthusiasm for living
3. an enthusiasm and energy for living
4. somebody’s personality or temperament
5. somebody’s attitude or state of mind
6. a sense of enthusiasm and loyalty that somebody feels through belonging to a group
7. somebody or something that is a divine, inspiring, or animating influence
8. the intention behind something such as a rule or decree, rather than its literal interpretation
9. a prevailing mood or outlook characteristic of a place or time
10. a supernatural being that does not have a physical body, for example, a ghost, fairy, angel, or demon
11. somebody who shows a specific quality
12. somebody’s soul, especially that of a dead person
13. a strong alcoholic liquor made by distillation (often used in the plural)
14. any liquid produced by distillation, especially a distilled solution of ethanol and water (often used in the plural)
15. a solution of an essence or volatile substance in alcohol (often used in the plural)
npl spir·its
a particular frame of mind or mood
vt
to take somebody or something away quickly in a secret or mysterious way

WTS SAYS ELDERS SINS DON'T COUNT!
by Amazing insometime ago i posted a discussion on h20 about the nov. 1991 kingdom ministry school for elders / ms held at woodburn, oregon.
during that school session the co stated that elders who commit a serious sin, even a gross sin, did not have to be removed if the event took place two or three years prior, and the elder continued to be respected, giving evidence of jehovahs blessing.
the co stipulated that this only applied to elders and ms and not to regular publishers.

But if you sinned once years ago and you were disfellowshipped for it, even a whole lifetime doesn't make up for the sin.

Do You Still Want To Know The Truth
by The-Borg insomething is very very wrong with our world.
or am i imagining it and things really aren't that bad?.
personally i think there are issues being played out about which we know nothing, we can only guess at ( i don't think it's the issue of universal sovereignty).

Shawn10538
Truth= the sum total of all possible perspectives (which is infinite.)
