Special Talk 4/30/06- Your thoughts on it-Jehovah being in Control
by architect infrom what it sounded like the special talk was another whose side are you on jehovah's or satans.. from the beginning the speaker said there is no new information!
he said "if youre not for jehovah then youre for satan- case closed!".
he also mentioned that jehovah has always had control of his creation!

Fort Jehovah
by justsomedude ini was recently in a central american country and saw something that really blew my mind.. there was a kingdom hall behind what had to be 14 foot gates and it looked to have much more in common with a military compound than a place of worship.
i really wish i could have gotten pictures of it, but i always seemed to be in that area at night when the pictures werent worth a damn.
i guess its not terribly surprising considering that is not too far off the fashion in building down there, but i couldnt help but think about the dubs constant reminder that we didnt need to fear what men could do because we had gods backing...... but just in case, were building a fort.. jsd

Carl Sagan... Had the wt misquoted him?
by flag ini know that the wt quotes carl sagan a lot.
but the other day i was checking the wt cd and was surprised of all the quotes they have from him.. so i was wondering if they had quoted him correctly or out of context?.
i'm sure you guys had discussed this subjet before but right now i don't have time to do research.. thanks;.

I actually ;bought one of Carl Sagan's books where he mentions WT wackiness but I haven't gotten to the part where it's mentioned yet....had forgotten about that until you mentioned it.
Its in the first two pages of one of the later chapters and he is just listing off bullshit. He dings the WT for the their 1917 (I think) predictions "and many others".
Love that book.

The do quote him about 30 times in their pubs (I just looked this up the other day), but 90% of the quotes are from his book Cosmos and I think the quote says something along the lines of the evidence supports the existence of an intelligent creator.
Based on the 2 other books of his that I have read, I cant really see him making the statement that they quote without putting some sort of qualifier around it. I have not had a chance to read Cosmos yet, but its next on the list after "End of Faith".
At any rate, here are the notes I quickly jotted down when I looked this up the other day (as far as where Sagan is quoted by the WTBTS). They are hardly detailed.

Ray Franz---A Man We Owe Our Thanks To

probably no one has done more to help us understand the truth about "the truth" than raymond franz.
of course there were others that questioned dates, prophecies and dogma but it was ray franz that revolutionized the organization.

By the time I read the book, I had already made my choices and decided to leave, but it was so comforting to see in print that I had certainly made the right choice by leaving the cult.
Despite being a very independant person and not having to lean on someone else to make the big choices, its always good to have a little reinforcement that you are doing the right thing when you get those days that drag you down a bit. Its the same as this message board really. I'm a happy apostate at this point, but every little piece of new information that I get on this board that strengthens my resolve to never go back to the looney bin is welcomed.

this is the very 1st memorial where i am making the stand not to go.at this point family & close friends now know my decision.. i am totally against blood issue/shunning/child abuse policy and i am proud of myself for making the stand not to please others and go through the motions with this corrupt & unloving organisation.
hopefully this sends out a message to all who think i am still a jw sympathiser.. please post your 1st time experiences........
