i recently bought a high powered rifle and am presently buying a pistol for back-up.
i have a cross bow, a compound bow, and several swords and knives, in fact i have been collecting knives for some time and have learned how to use them in defending myself and in taking the initiative in learning to defend myself.
i am quite versed in using both the croww bow and the compound bow, it seems the goverment doesn't want to defend us and just wants to unarm us.
Oh silly me, here I am thinking that a theif who breaks into a house would break into a gun cabinet... Of course, they would just look at the pretty safe and not touch it!
Cause theives usually bring plasma cutters with them.. If you have a serious gun safe, you should be OK.

jstalin, what happens when that home of yours gets broken into and you're not home? The guns get stolen and another 6 guns become available for sale on the black market...

I do remember the piano playing! I also remember what must have been the local needs part after they did away with the piano about some the sisters hitting off notes from time to time and how it was better with the tapes/cds and how we needed to be good zombies and not complain.

my ccw instructor was not very encouraging about 3rd party defense by a ccw holder.
he said that it was not only risky because too often you (the ccw holder) don't know the whole story and you could make a big mistake.
in addition, there's the risk that you could act in defense of a stranger, only to find out the stranger is horrified by you having a gun, and could say something to the cops that screws you over (even if you've acted within the bounds of the law).. given that the society's published attitude about guns as defense, is that christians "reject magic and weapons as tools of protection," how willing would you be to act in defense of a jw that a) you didn't know [you saw them being attacked on the street] or b) you did know?
This just shows how dumb gun owners can be.Since when did anybody SEE a sniper AND have enough time to shoot back??? DUH.
Owning a gun for self defence is a false security IMO. A criminal is way more likely to be able to use a gun, WAY more motivated to use it (cos hes desperate, probably, for money or drugs or money for drugs) and way less likely to feel a human inhibition about causing fatal damage to another human being.
Rather than pick apart the whole thing as has already been done. I'd just like to address the "Owning a gun for self defence is a false security" comment. I'd really have to wonder how you arrived at this conclusion. Over here we're able to own more than replicas and so that might account for the difference.
I've been shooting for over a decade, am extremely familiar with my carry weapons and have practiced extensively with them. I've spent a lot of time considering the ramifications to using a gun and although I cant say with total certainty how I would feel afterwards in the event that I did have to use one, I have at the very least prepared myself mentally to use one if I need to (IMO).
It's just a cultural difference, just like any other. In some parts of the world, drug use is legal and in others its not. Here drug use is criminalized and users are certainly looked down on by the majority of society. Right or wrong, ignorant or not, thats the way it is. Would it be right to apply that stigma to people who use drug in places where their use is completely legal?

That's why I split it up between JWs you knew and JWs you didn't.
Fair enough.. In terms of people that I didnt know, on average I would suspect that they would not object to force being used on their behalf as long as they didnt have to use it themselves. Your average witness probably would not object to the police using force on their behalf, nor would they object to their own country having a military as long as they didnt have to get their own hands dirty.
I think the real distress in their conscience would come from them having to shoot someone personally, not having someone shot to protect them. Just my 2 cents.

So, knowing that the Society's stance on armed self-defense is that it's wrong, a person might be taking a bigger risk coming to the aid of a JW than they would a member of the general public.
It depends really. I was a witness and had a huge collection of guns (and carried) and some of the people that I went shooting with were witnesses. Its a mixed bag just like most other groups of people.
