i recently bought a high powered rifle and am presently buying a pistol for back-up.
i have a cross bow, a compound bow, and several swords and knives, in fact i have been collecting knives for some time and have learned how to use them in defending myself and in taking the initiative in learning to defend myself.
i am quite versed in using both the croww bow and the compound bow, it seems the goverment doesn't want to defend us and just wants to unarm us.
*Edited because someone will think Im serious.

Cause theives usually bring plasma cutters with them.. If you have a serious gun safe, you should be OK.Is that a joke?
Just my sarcastic nature at work really.

I certainly dont want to upset anyone over my views on this kind of thing, but here are the cliff notes of my thoughts on guns and the right to protect yourself.
Its a fact of life that criminals dont obey laws. The wouldnt be much of a criminal if they did. Right or wrong, good or bad, guns are available to them, in this country (the US) as well as others and taking guns out of the hands of the lawful citizens wont discourage crime. (See the peoples republic of kalifornia)
Honestly I dont know too much about the UK or Australia in terms of the attitude with regards to violent crime and the like, but I did know someone (online) who was a security guard in Australia and he was stabbed on three separate occasions during the course of 2 years. That tells me that there is a problem there of some sort (or this guy was just remarkably unlucky).
Personally I choose to level the playing field. In all the years I have carried, Ive never had to pull a gun and I hope that I never will. I practice regularly, obey all the laws regarding firearms and try to avoid any trouble whenever I can. This is a big responsibility though. If you choose to arm yourself, you need to do some deep soul searching and figure out if you could shoot someone if your life, or the life of someone else depended on it.
I secure the weapons that I wouldnt use in a self defense situation and keep a few out of safes that I either carry or have in the house. Those that are out, certainly arent sitting on the kitchen counter waiting to be taken by any robbers that might stop by. They are concealed, but easily accessible, meeting the anti-burgalar need. Those that are secured, arent locked in some mystical box. Its a gun safe and they sell them at home depot and its not that big of a commitment. They bolt to the floor and a would be thief would have a hell of a time getting into one, or getting away with it.
With regards to the comment that someone made earlier about the NRA having stories about folks defending themselves, you can find that at the link below.
.
in all the years i attended meetings, i don't recall seeing anyone kiss anyone there....... all i saw were handshakes.. not even any hugs.. i thought of this a few days ago, when my cousin came over to visit my old parents, and when he left, he gave a warm handshake and slight hug to my dad and hugged and kissed my mom on each cheek.. you don't see this at the kh.
Wow, this thread brought up a memory of a local needs part that I havent thought about in years. I recall one part we had about how hugging in the congregation could give the wrong impression, what with brothers hugging sisters and how we shouldnt behave that way at the hall.
Wow, what a bunch of prudes the dubs were.

Oh silly me, here I am thinking that a theif who breaks into a house would break into a gun cabinet... Of course, they would just look at the pretty safe and not touch it!

jstalin, what happens when that home of yours gets broken into and you're not home? The guns get stolen and another 6 guns become available for sale on the black market...
Assuming that you dont lock the majority of them up or anything.

That video was great! I wonder how long it will be before something comes out in the KM saying that JWs should run the other way when the householder has a video camera.
the thread about got me thinking about my very early childhood, back when witnesses were allowed to be social and have get togethers.
they also had a piano in every congregation i ever attended, and an older sister would always play the kingdom melody.
there was actual singing - not mindless droning and humming.
Yeah we had a conductor when I was very young that was at all the circuit and districts.

I do remember the piano playing! I also remember what must have been the local needs part after they did away with the piano about some the sisters hitting off notes from time to time and how it was better with the tapes/cds and how we needed to be good zombies and not complain.
Wow that was a long time ago.
