Hoorah for Australia and Germany!
by Kenneson inas it now stands, the australian government has pledged $810 million to the tsunami relief effort.. germany is next with $674 million.. japan--$500 million.. u.s. trails in fourth place with $350 million.

while the u.s. government could do a lot better, the private sector is not doing too badly.

12/18 Economist magazine: End of the world.. from Millerites to JW's
by coult9056 inthe 12/18/04 issue of the economist magazine has a cover story titled "the end of the world: a brief history of an enduring belief.
" the article briefly discusses the history of apocalyptic beliefs from john darby's concept of rapture, william miller's failed prediction of christ's return on october 22nd, 1844, to the churchof seventh-day adventists.
quote: they were not the only ones to rise above apparent setbacks to the prophesies by which they set such store: the jehovah's witnesses of the persistently apocalyptic watchtower sect survived no few than nine disconfirmations every few years between 1874 and 1975.

I enjoy seeing well-respected magazines give clear information about JW history; even more clear and accurate than the Watchtower would like to admit.
Just thought everyone would like to see this one.

p.s. I haven't posted in a long while, but I'll post soon about my experience applying for law school a few weeks ago (only about 13 years after quitting the pioneer work) . When I discussed the "obstacles overcome" with a member of the admissions committee, I whipped out a mint-condition "School and Jehovah's Witnesses" brochure. After that, we discussed the history of the Witness view of education (Don't be misled by the Devil's propaganda, etc.) All I can say is the conversation was great, the experience was fantastic, I can't wait to get in. BTW, since I technically "placed" the brochure with her, should I turn in a time slip this month?

newsflash!! WTBS CD-ROM 2001
by greven inyesterday an announcement was made at my local con.
and i thought i`d share it.. the watchtower announced that work on the new cd-rom is in progress and we can expect it at the end of this year.. unlike the other versions you can`t get away with win 3.1, you`ll now need at least win95.. available languages: the one already available + tjech and japanese.. some of it`s features:.
- one window (instead of several).

I was wondering what publications are available on the CR-ROMs. Are old out-of-date publications on it too? Do the publications include "old light" beliefs...aka... generations, 1914, blood transfusions, 1975? How far back do they go?
BTW, I would be happy to pay for a CDrom.. Just finished a paper on JW's blood fraction rule. Could really have used the CD. Looking forward to it.
Thanks....Bryan.

"Note to the Bethel workers ... get out now if you're still young and have at least a decent shot at a 'good' job!!! Don't wait until you are 40 years old, no school, no work experience (and don't buy the snake oil that businesses care about your 20 years 'volunteering'. They don't.) Get out now, get some edu-mication and get crakin' - or it'll be another 30 years of cleaning floors/windows until you are too old to move. The big 'A' won't save you - your parents/grandparents/great-grandparents thought that too. And now look at them - dead or dying. Sorry to be harsh, but that's reality. Not the fantasy world ...."
thank, you namewithheld.. So, true.

WTS says you are free to do what we tell you
by ozziepost inthe may 15 issue of the watchtower contains a discussion of the question: would it be advisable for a true christian to attend a funeral or a wedding in a church?.
the tone of the wts view is set in the very first line our taking part in any form of false religion is displeasing to jehovah and must be avoided.
nonetheless the last line of the article states whatever the situation, the christian should make sure that the decision will not interfere with his preserving a good conscience before god and men.. so apparently it's a personal decision for the jw as to whether he/she will attend a funeral in a church or not.

Obviously, the Governing Body, those out of touch old men,are trying to allow witnesses the freedom to go to weddings and funerals in other churches knowing that the elders will do the dirty front line work from the platform of discouraging and "coding" the new rule that witnesses should not go to other churches for any reason.
Maybe they could call it church "FRACTIONS", like blood fractions. Now witnesses may not go to whole churches, like they can't take whole blood, but they can attend church "fractions" basic components of whole churches.
I know, I ramble. But pardon my vulgarity, the WTBS is full of shit.

My girlfr and I went to the Assembly Hall today
by coult9056 in5 years removed from being inside the indianapolis assembly hall of jehovah's witnesses, 4 years from attending a meeting at the kingdom hall, this morning my girlfriend and i walked into the assembly hall.
we were taking an early morning walk in our jogging clothes in downtown indy.
she asked if there was anywhere i'd like to go.

Thank you Rhett. Yes I remember the ugly orangish, pinkish, cream colors.. All teal grean and cream now.. Very nice.
After we got back from our walk Sunday morning, my girlfriend gave me the tour of her mother's house where we spent the night. Upstairs, prominently display on a table in the hall, was a picture of my girlfriend graduating from Harvard University. Picture was dated June 6, 1991. I could'nt help but think of what I was doing at that time. Preaching. Preaching. Preaching. And to think the version of the truth I was preaching then is different than the truth today. AKA "generations" "Blood fractions", "separating work", etc.
Now, so often, I think about how much farther behind I am in life because I wasted so much time blindly following those people on the stage.
Now, I'm going to Purdue University and can't wait to graduate in 2-3 more years. But I always think that there is some young, talented, intelligent, enthusiastic Witness out there who is cleaning at night and pioneering the days away, instead of going to the "evil" college and getting an education, traveling waiting to get married for a few years rather than immediately past the "bloom of youth." I'd like to talk to him, reach into his mind and show him a different path is available; but I know, like me, he'll have to figure it out him/herself. For me, sometimes it's hard not to feel like an underachiever when something you poured your heart into turns out to be a mirage.
When I first bought this computer 2 years ago, many Saturdays were spent reading and researching JW stuff on the internet. It has turned out to be a great friend. Knowing there are other ex-Witness survivors out there brings some real relief. -

5 years removed from being inside the Indianapolis Assembly Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 4 years from attending a meeting at the Kingdom Hall, this morning my girlfriend and I walked into the Assembly Hall. We were taking an early morning walk in our jogging clothes in downtown Indy. She asked if there was anywhere I'd like to go. I said, Yes. Let's head that way and see the assembly hall. It was only 8:30, so few people were there. As we approached, I saw the 6-8 brothers doing parking lot duty as I used to do. We walked in the front doors, and of course stuck out like a sore thumb. The bright red and black outfits we were wearing were easy to spot. We walked up the center steps to the auditorium and looked around. The building itself is very beautiful, as are the people, (they're just wrong), and my girlfriend was impressed with the blacks and whites who were there worshipping together.
We attracted attention, and a brother approached and asked if he could help us. I said where I was from and that I used to attend. I mentioned that we were just walking by, and I just wanted to show the building to her. Of course, I was given a program and invited to attend. Thanks anyway, kindly.
We had a great walk and talk this early morning. I couldn't help but feel a little sorry for those inside whose weekend was spent sitting in those chairs all day, all weekend. Really, it felt like a released prisoner walking through the prison cellblock as a free man. Unfortunately, she thinks I might want to go back someday. I try to explain that it's more like a college alumnus (on my way there)visiting campus. I just want to see it, not get involved again, ever. Even though I was baptized on that pool on that stage. Even though I gave parts on that stage. If I ever walk in there again, I think I'll ask for a resignation form. I'm really ready to make it official. Thanks for letting me ramble.
