Hi ObservingTexan, I've been following your posts and I'm glad to hear that your friend Dee is open to hearing some things that go against WTS teachings. Most JWs, if they still believed in "the Truth", would write that sort of information as "apostate" or evil or whatever and just ignore everything you were telling them, but I think Dee is open to learning the truth about the WTS, and I think that's the first step for her.

She's THINKING.....that's what it takes.

Exactly. JWs aren't taught to think for themselves, they're taught to mindlessly believe everything that the WTS tells them and then blindly follow that, but if Dee is willing to think about some things on her own, there's nothing stopping her.

I'm glad you're making some headway with her. Good luck with your efforts and be sure to keep us posted!!

im in love with a Jehovah's Witness

i've fallen in love with a jehovah's witness and i know she feels the same way about me but the problem is that im a methodist and cant find it in me to give up my faith and become a jehovah's witness as i would not expect her to give up her faith and it is driving us both crazy.

i've known this lovely lady for the past 8 years and have only now told her how i feel and every second im away from her im thinking of her wanting to be with her.

so im asking people who might know or be able to help

Hi saddler, welcome to the board!!

I, like yourself, find myself in love with a Witness, and I certainly know how hard it can be. I'm an Anglican and I have no desire to give up my faith to become a Witness like my boyfriend, especially after all I've learned, so I know how hard it can be to try and reconcile your beliefs with those of a Witness, it's not an easy task.

I haven't figured out what would be the best thing for me to do with my relationship just yet, it's certainly had it's ups and downs, but rest assured that there are lots of people on this board who are more than willing to help you out with your situation. When I came here a few months back, curious and concerned, they welcomed me with open arms and gave me lots of good information and advice on Witnesses and what they believe and how to deal with them, and I know that they'll do the same for you.

My best advice for you - stick around the forum, ask lots of questions, do lots of research, and keep the lines of communication open with your girl. Think things over, work things out, live and learn, and who knows, maybe this will work out for you. I hold the same hope for my relationship.

Do you follow you own advice?

my question is, do you follow your own advice?

i have often quoted this scripture, "...do you, however, the one teaching someone else, not teach yourself?

Fast forward 5, 10, 15 yrs. Do you want to be in this same exact situtation???? The longer you leave the worse (not better) it will get. Don't wait until house, kids etc

Again, hearing you loud and clear on this subject, but I'm not quite ready to call it quits just yet, I'm still testing the waters. It's only been 9 months, I don't know everything about him just yet, I want to learn more and see what he thinks and feels. Then, instead of bailing right now and wondering if I made the right decision, I'll know that I'm doing what I should be, whether I stay or leave. If I was already years into this relationship and it wasn't going anywhere, then I'd get out, but it hasn't been that long, I'm not finished exploring it yet.

But I certainly won't be getting myself into anything I don't want to. I know better than that. This board has taught me well and continues to teach me well.

And besides, if I bailed on the relationship now and went back to dating regular, non-JW guys, I wouldn't have a reason to be on this board anymore. Then what would I do for a social life??

Just some advice. I did it and if you sort of feel that way you should.

I definitely hear ya, and knowing what I do now, that would definitely be the wise thing to do. Like I said, that's what I'd tell my friend if she was in that situation, but I also said:

But of course, it's not a friend in that situation, it's me, and it's significantly hard for me to do that. I know that my life would me much easier if I just followed that advice, but that doesn't make it any easier for me to step up and do that.

Even coming from someone else, it's not easy. It's not easy to follow my own advice on this topic, and it's not easy to follow someone else's, either.

Damn love, getting in the way of rational thought again.

How DARE he?! This is why I'm still Single!!!

well, i was dating this guy and its been a long time since i have even been with anyone that i thought was worthwhile.

i've been focusing on other things and with everything else going on with trying to gain my independance i just have not wanted to get caught up.

anyways, how dare the guy i was seeing call the whole jw mind-cult issue "stupid" when i tried to explain to him why i am the way i am (awful social skills, the simple excitement from just being around a new scene, etc.

There are plenty of juvenile women also.

I'll also agree with that. I lived with the same girl for my first two years of university, and she was the most immature, juvenile female I've ever had the misfortune of meeting.

My boyfriend at the time was my age and also very immature and juvenile.

Maybe that's why he hooked up with her without dumping me first. Now they can me immature and juvenile together.

Personally, I like to think that I'm very child-like in a lot of ways, I still like to have fun and I can still be like a little kid when I'm having a good time, but I think that I can be reasonably mature when I need to be, too, and that's more than I can say about most guys my age.

What's the problem in not growing up? ;-)

OK, I'll give you that one - there's nothing wrong with "not growing up", I don't ever intend to do it, either.

But I do think that one can be mature while still being "young at heart" and having lots of fun while you're at it.

Someone once told me:

"You can be child-like without being childish."

Wiser words have never been spoken.

"Growing up" is highly overrated, but maturity isn't.

But he's 10 years older than me! Sheesh! Do you men ever grow up??!!

In a word...

NO.

Nope, men don't grow up, they hit 18 and stay that way forever. Only their bodies get older, that's all.

Not to offend the guys out there, because I'm sure there are a lot of mature, sensible, caring men out there, but in my experience and from what I've seen, men don't really "grow up", at least not in the same way that girls do. Most guys my age are like children, and my boyfriend, who's 8 years older than I am, is no better than they are.

I guess it just all depends on the guy.

Yup.

My parents were shocked when I said that I was dating one. My brother demanded that I prevent my boyfriend from trying to sell him anything religious. My dad is always saying, "Yeah, he's strange alright...".

When I was little, I remember that there was one JW in my brother's class, a year behind me. We all knew who he was, it was a small town and a small school, everyone knew everyone, but he didn't have any friends or anything. He didn't associate with anyone, he didn't attend birthday parties or anything like that, and he didn't celebrate Christmas, which I thought was sad.

We were told that he was a Jehovah's Witness and that he didn't believe in birthdays and Christmas. That was all I knew about it, and even back then, I thought it was weird. Later, I learned that JWs were those people who came to your door at the most inconvenient times to give you magazines and try to convert you. Yup, always thought they were weird.

Ask anyone around here about the Witnesses, and the answer you'll get will definitely contain the word "weird".

Back from my surgery; talked to hospital staff about JW's and blood!

i'm home from my surgery.

it went very well, and i didn't need a blood transfusion, tho i signed a consent for one if needed.

i was able to talk to my surgeon and three different nurses about jw's and blood transfusions.

Hey Virgochik, glad your surgery went well!! I hope you're feeling better and I wish you a speedy recovery.

Glad you got to talk to some medical professionals about the blood issue, too, I bet that was an interesting experience. Thanks for sharing it with us!!
