McVeigh vs Death Penalty
by Amazing ini am a policitcal conservative, at least a fiscal conservative and sociel moderate.
i support the death penalty, but i agree that our judicial system needs to overhaul how wwe treat criminals to achieve better rehabilitation results.
and of course, withhold the death penalty in cases where there could be doubt.. in mcveigh's case, i believe that he deserves the death penalty.

Am I happy that McVeigh is dead? No,it brings me no joy.But it is some relief that another chapter in this ordeal is closed.I do believe justice was done.His death was not a murder-it was a punishment befitting his crime.I agree with many of your posts,especially Amazed's-I feel much the same on the subject,but have so little typing skill it would take me half a day to write it.My biggest hope is that some other nut doesn't feel the need to avenge his death on more innocent people.May we never forget.

Hello! I'll try to be brief as I can. I'm 35,married,3 kids(son 8,son & daghter 22 months). I'm a third generation JW on both sides,never baptised,drifted away when I got out of high school.Never actually been shunned but watched my aunts and uncles do it to their own kids-heartbreaking.Most cousins are out-some are elders-amazing.Was very glad to find this site w/so many similar experiences.After my initial posts I"m not so sure, but I'm gonna try again.

HEY! I AM COWBOY !!! Everything I posted is true.This is not something to make up,and I cannot believe you think it is.I would reveal my true identity here,but I won't do that out of respect for my nephew and his parents(his mother-my wifes sister- was employed in the building,she escaped with minor physical injuries and a tremendous amount of mental trauma). I won't drag their names into this ridiculous argument.I just thought I could post my feelings on this issue for my own peace of mind-boy was I wrong.Sorry I got you nto this AG.I'm sure now that everyone on this forum is not nearly as open minded as they claim.Now why does that sound familiar...?

Jan-I assure you Acupulco Gold and I are two entirely different people.I have been watching this site since I got online-just a few weeks-enjoying the views of so many with similiar pasts to my own.This thread hits close to home for me,and thats what prompted me to begin posting.I'm sure you'll figure out the difference one of these days.

I have always been on the fence about the death penalty until now(being raised a JW I wasn't supposed to have an opinion on anything).But I still think if there is any chance that executing this man will deter even one potential killer it will be worth it.I don't expect to feel one bit better after he dies,nor do I expect to feel worse.I know many of the survivors look forward to some kind of closure,but I fear a lot of them will be disappointed.I do have to admit that many of you raise some good arguments against.I appreciate getting to speak my mind. And thanks for the thoughts Acupulco Gold.

I don't disagree with your logic Englishman,but I do believe the death penalty has some value as a deterrent.Granted, we'll never know what's in anothers mind,but I can feel justified in my stand because of it.I admit though that anyone willing to commit pre-meditated murder is probably too far gone to care about the consequences.As I said before I'm too biased in this case...

If executing this man does not deter another adult militia type from blowing up another building full of innocents(it probably won't) it very well could however deter a frustrated 14 year old from shooting up his(her) schoolmates or someone else.My point is if executing a convicted killer convinces one person not to kill today, it was well worth it.

I have no problem with the death penalty,whether or not it deters anyone else from commiting the same crime,McVeigh-as someone said earlier-has given up his right to live.He killed each of those people as surely as if he'd shot them point blank,one at a time.I do hate to see him die bacause;1-He will become a martyr to those that share his beliefs,& 2-The truth about who else was involved{I can't believe there weren't more}will die with him.Of course I'm biased-one of those he killed was my 18 month old nephew. {FYI-I'm a third generation JW who left as soon as I was old enough to know better}
