Peter Jennings & Toby Keith ,who gets the b...
by Cowboy ina short version,if you haven't heard it already.. abc asked toby keith to appear on their fourth of july special, hosted by peter jennings.in fact they asked keith to open the show with his new patriotic song courtesy of the red, white and blue.that was until jennings got around to listening to the song, apparentley.after which he found the lyrics personally offensive, and insisted that keith be cut from the show.in particular, the line"we'll put a boot in your ass/cause it's the american way"(i've posted the complete lyrics on the thread vincent's goes underground,in case you're interested).
reaction from the music community, both country and pop,has been overwhelmongly in keith's favor.an oklahoma city radio station has started a drive to collect old boots (the crustier, the better).sign 'em,bring 'em in and they'll ship the lot to jennings...guess he can figure out where they're intended to go.several other stations across the country are doing the same.. on a related note, charlie daniels was cut from pbs's fourth of july special because he planned to do his new song the last fallen hero.pbs spokesmen said they had hoped that charlie would perform "some zesty fiddle tunes".... sad that our celebration of freedom isn't free.... nuff said,.

Been here a year...(ramblings)
by Cowboy inyep, one year ago tonight i first posted here.i had lurked for a few weeks, never intending to post, but a particular thread hit so close to home for me,that i felt like i had to voice my opinion.of course,i was promptly slammed as being a troll, but i was stubborn enough to hang around.here i am still hanging,a whole year later.
i've maybe learned more in this past year than in the ten before it all put together.i've learned a whole lot about myself-about who i am,and why.i've learned about the organization that shaped my life and my family.originally i was shocked by alot of what i read here, and wasn't sure whether or not to believe it all.but looking back, knowing what i do now explains an awful lot of things.
i've learned lot's about people, too.like many who were raised jw,i led a very sheltered childhood(even more so living in the country, going to a small school).i'm still not sure if this is a real cross section of life, but i think it's pretty close.i'm happy to say that i've made lot's of friends here, some very good ones.though i've had my share of disagreements,i don't consider anyone here an enemy.

April 19,1995-May we never forget
by Cowboy inapril 19 is the seventh anniversary of the bombing of the murrah federal building in oklahoma city.in the light of the more recent tragedies in new york city and washington,d.c.,this is just a reminder that the survivors of this tragedy are still recovering, and still mourning the loss of their loved ones.please, take a moment to remember them in your thoughts.. if you ever have the opportunity to visit the okc national memorial, please do so...you will come away with a whole new appreciation for life, and how truly fragile it is.. .

New Virus
by Cowboy ini assume this is for real.. don't open any e-mail titled "it takes guts to say jesus".
it will erase everthing from your hard drive, using the reformat function from norton utilities.this is much worse than "melisa" and there is no remedy for it at this time.. this is a new, very malicious virus, and not many people know about it.please pass this warning along.. nuff said,.

Fear and pain and death...
by Cowboy indo you fear death?if so,do you fear it because of the pain that is likely to go along with it?or because of what will become of your soul(your self)after death?.
curiosly,i find that i no longer fear death.not that i want to die-i don't.but i wonder if this how i should feel.. i don't like pain, but i have a fairly high threshold of pain,i think.i'm sure there is much greater pain than what i have experienced, but though i avoid it when at all possible(including spankings...sorry chat babes),i'm not afraid that i can't deal with it if i have to.. likewise death,i just have no great fear of it anymore.i don't think that it's due to my beliefs about what will happen after i die...i don't have any.sure,i was raised a j.w.,instilled from birth with the idea that if i didn't survive armageddon, that i'd be resurrected thereafter.but i don't buy that anymore...neccesarily.nor do i believe in the heaven or hell concept...neccesarily.i do believe that if i'm the best kind of person i can be,then it will have to be good enough for whatever,if anything, lies beyond the life i'm living now.. in talking to others, though,i find very few(if any)people who don't have a pretty high degree of fear about death.it has me wondering, and i'd appreciate your comments.. cowboy.

sexual compatability
by Cowboy inthis subject has been touched on by some recent threads, but not addressed directly.so here goes.....just how important is sexual compatability in a marriage or other long term relationship?should it be important enough to dissolve an existing long term relationship?or should the partners be willing to compromise their level of desire in order to keep peace?.
my thoughts are that sex and intimacy in general are a big part of any relationship.they are necessary components in maintaining the communication, trust and happiness that is the foundation for a marriage,or other long term relationship.if sex and intimacy are absent from a relationship, eventually the rest of the relationship will erode away as well.. cowboy.
