i didn't know which forum to post this, so i just take the easy road and post it here.
there has been some discussion of this in several threads on the board, and so when i was asked to pass this around, i will do it here... .
internet radio broadcast .
Thanks GSX.I like your point about people coming here for religious tolerance.I still think we have that,we just have to accept that a majority of this country is Christian, and we're going to get a certain amount of it force fed to us,like it or not.
Dedalus,if you want intelligent discussion,discuss.

I realize that not all the founding fathers were Christians, but for the most part, over the years Christianity has been dominate in the formation of the U.S. government.Like I said,I see the point the atheists are making, but I just don't think that you can please everybody, and that it's a mistake to start trying to.
GSX,I'm not going to war here....I like you and dungbeetle and gopher, but I'm just stating my(not the medias-when did you know me to do it because it was popular or pc?) opinion-that is what we're here for, right?

Well,I kind of see where the atheists are coming from, but I hate to see it happen. With all due respect to the non-believers,our nation was founded on Christian principles.I believe that the U.S.A. has done everything within reason to accept all belief systems, and avoid discriminating against them, but the fact remains that a majority of the U.S. population is Christian, and Christianity and patriotism are closely linked, and the pledge is all about patriotism.I very much agree that it shouldn't be forced on anyone, but I don't think it should be changed.

a short version,if you haven't heard it already.. abc asked toby keith to appear on their fourth of july special, hosted by peter jennings.in fact they asked keith to open the show with his new patriotic song courtesy of the red, white and blue.that was until jennings got around to listening to the song, apparentley.after which he found the lyrics personally offensive, and insisted that keith be cut from the show.in particular, the line"we'll put a boot in your ass/cause it's the american way"(i've posted the complete lyrics on the thread vincent's goes underground,in case you're interested).
reaction from the music community, both country and pop,has been overwhelmongly in keith's favor.an oklahoma city radio station has started a drive to collect old boots (the crustier, the better).sign 'em,bring 'em in and they'll ship the lot to jennings...guess he can figure out where they're intended to go.several other stations across the country are doing the same.. on a related note, charlie daniels was cut from pbs's fourth of july special because he planned to do his new song the last fallen hero.pbs spokesmen said they had hoped that charlie would perform "some zesty fiddle tunes".... sad that our celebration of freedom isn't free.... nuff said,.

Bea-I agree, the message is positive. And I don't mind being a redneck from no-mans land either...But Chungs statement was something to the effect of a place like Oklahoma not being civiized enough to deal with such a disaster.
Path-I see what you're saying,but I can't agree.
As you said,it's not something that's particularly of international interest, and besides that,Independance Day is all about "glorifying patriotism".The point of the song is that the U.S. will not lay down for terrorism...a message I would think goes along with gathering support for the war on terrorism.
Funny thing is,being raised a JW,I still don't consider myself particularly patriotic. But obviously I personally am,and we as a nation are much prouder of our country, and much more ready to defend our freedoms (and those of others,as well) than people from other countries,in general. And we make no apologies for it.But it appears that Jennings, and ABC do.
Nita-I agree,Hank,Jr. is no less patriotic than Toby Keith.I wouldn't be a bit surprised if Hank did something Jennings found objectionable.Brooks and Dunn, either, for that matter. However,i doubt if the feeds from their performances, especially Hank's,will be live.Listen close for blurs.
Toby Keith has been sceduled to be interviewed by Wolf Blitzer, directly prior to(I believe) his July 4th concert in Provo,Utah. An appearance on Larry King has also been scheduled.
