JW's having kids
by Tigerman inthis is a simply question that came to me as i sit here reading all the various topics and their responses and i my mind often takes me back to a question that came to me some time ago.
simply put; why have jw's continued to have children .
.since the beginning - 1912,1918,1925 and so on if the end was coming in their lifetime .

My Story
by XJW4EVR ini was adopted into a jw family in southern california.
my birth mother gave me up after 6 months (the terms mom & dad refer to my adoptive/real parents).
she gave me up due to the fact that she already had a three year old boy, and back in the late sixties it was not as socially acceptable to be a single mother.

Attitudes of JCs
by rhian ini just finished reading crisis of conscience.
i had read half of it but never finished; something i read on this forum prompted me to pick it up & finish it.. my question is this: i'm curious, for those who have had experience with judicial committees, what has been the prevailing attitude?
franz wrote about the lack of brotherly love in both the committees at hq in ny and in the cong in alabama.. i've had two experiences; won't go into the details for the sake of brevity.

Whenever I have had to visit the "little room in the back of the hall" it had been an experience...to this day I often wonder what was the purpose...I would sit there they would ask questions and then I would be asked to sit out and wait while they discussed my fate...which was usually a private reproof because I was repentance..whether I was or not was not the issue...my family said that I knew just how to answer the questions and jump through the hoops basically telling them just what they wanted to hear. It was kind of like an act...The funny thing now about the whole situation is where the elders on the committee are now-one is D'Ad, one was D'Fd to going out on his wife, and the other one ran away with a younger married sister...who knows where he is...it is rather ironic now because these men know things about me that not even my family knows....they could write a book and it would be a best seller...LOL only one of the elder on the Committee showed any kind compassion for my "situation"

Restatement
by pratt1 in.
for those of you that have been dfed - how long did it take you to be reinstated, and how long did you continue to be active?.
i was reinstated after 5 months out and i continued to be active for about 5 years.. although i have to admit, i never felt the same about the dubs after i was reinstated, and should have quit the religion much earlier.

I wasn't d'fd but was disassociated which meant that you were an unbaptized publisher and should be treated as if you were d'fd, I remember having to meet with the elders and telling them that I was pregnant....and a sister telling me that if I were there for the announcement it would be a great show of rependence...I was 17 at the time...my nonjw family throw me out because I was pregnant and my jw family wouldn't have anything to do with me because I had been disassociated-(by the way, the arrangement was done away with as stated in the November 15, 1988-Watchtower, the only reason I remember this is because I was at my JW sister's house and in labor when an elder called her to let her know that she could talk to me now because of what the Society printed in that WT).
well to make a long story short...I had my baby and some of the sisters throw me a baby shower that is when you really find out who are your true friends, you see during my 9 months of pregnancy- I made every meeting and even attended the circuit assembly-it is funny now when I look back...the first meeting back it was as if as I had never been shun...talk about mind control.

Leaving without the internet.
by unique1 inmy husband mentioned to me this morning that he was glad i had this resource and some support to help me through this.
he also made the comment: can you imagine trying to leave without the internet?
that got me thinking, it is hard now, how much harder was it back then, before the internet.

I know you all don't know much about me...maybe someday when I get up the courage I will share my experience with you...but I did have several problems with a lot of what was going on in my congregation...my sister was a pioneer and very close to some the elite cliques there so we would hear a lot of behind the scenes gossip that was discussed between return visits and door-to-door activities...she was one who couldn't keep her mouth shut and would often share some of it with me...I couldn't believe what I heard...then I started to see a lot myself...I witnessed firsthand how my grandmother was totally humilated by her fleshly brother who was the PO of the congregation by Dfding both my parents and my sibly all on the same night...for something they did not do..oh the stories I could tell you...as I read the threads on this forum I see a lot of what has happen to each of you to have happen in one way or another to me or someone I know.
The only thing I haven't been subjected to thankfully is the molestation (sp?) and abuse of some of the innocent ones only to have it covered up by the body of elders...and the GB. that is was so sick about all this....

Best, worst and weirdest assembly halls...
by Jamelle ina recent thread about the experience of attending the 1969 convention as a young child really started me thinking.
i have several fuzzy memories of assemblies i attended as very young child.
this got me onto the track of the rather odd, uncomfortable or even really cool buildings i have visited over the years as a result of those conventions.. so my questions to everyone are:.

Let's see... the worst would be in Abliene, TX....we were downwind from the cattle stock yards....there was quite an ordor coming our way especially in the 100 degree weather when the steam is lifting off from the manure...suffice to say that we never went back to that are ever again...I can't think of a best place...I remember feeling sorry for those who would attend Yakees (sp? I am a Doger fan LOL) staduim in the muggy hot New York City weather...

JW couples don't love each other
by Nosferatu inhas anyone else ever noticed this in the kh?
married couples don't seem to show any affection to each other.
however, when a couple is dating, they will hold hands.

I just had to put in my two cents on this thread...I know of a couple who were young when they got married and are only married because the brother doesn't want to stop being an elder...he has been heard to say that he is only with because he doesn't want to lose any privileges in the congregation...they don't even go to the meetings in the same vehicle...it is rather pathletic if you ask me.
