Thanks to all for the replies. I seemed to recall someone here who switched careers to become a financial advisor. Do y'all remember who that was? Or is it a figment of my imagination?

ok, so whenever i would question the justice of the df policy, i kept.

getting the same line (even from my dad, an elder):.

people are not disfellowshipped because of the actual sin, they are.

What are your experiences with career changes? How did you decide on your new career? Did it work out as you planned? What advice would you give someone contemplating this?

I'm feeling really out of sorts in all areas of my life: at home, I have the pending empty nest, I'm annoyed with most of my family and friends, I absolutely HATE my job and the corporate environment I work in is toxic. After all these years of being a single parent and corporate drone, focusing on responsibilities, I don't have a clear picture of what I LIKE to do. I don't know if this is a mid-life crisis and my experience is par for the course, but I feel very compelled to make a change (so much so that I volunteered to be laid off.) I'm trying to figure out what I want to do the next 15-20 years I have to work. I may soon get the opportunity to leave my employer with a nice fat severance check and I don't want to squander the opportunity.

Do you want the long list or short list?

I want the intellectual, physical, emotional, spiritual connection. I want to feel safe, secure, cherished/loved, respected, amused, intellectually engaged and turned on. I want a dependable man who keeps a job and fulfills his responsibilities, and gets along with his family. I want us to have common values, some common goals and interests.

I'm working up the nerve to chat with a new guy in a few minutes so I'm not totally pathetic. ;-)

I don't care for bars or nightclubs either so I'll be at home unless I make arrangements with family/friends to go out to dinner or a movie or something more sedate.
