i watched this movie today and wow, very good storyline and special effects.. i noticed there's alot of borrowed themes from the bible and slapped into the movie.. i like nicolas cage and i think he did a superb job with the movie.. anyone else seen it?.

There were memorable scenes in the movie, but some things didn't make sense - like why did the aliens come 50 years early, just to have the message buried in a time capsule?

i am a lifelong jw, a born-in true believer for most of my life.

eventually i had the awakening and have been pulling away from the religion, even though we still attend meetings.

i am willing to keep up appearances if it means saving my relationship with my wife and our close family.

serendipity

I say let her work things out at her own pace. In the meantime, help her to enjoy life now. It's also an interesting exercise to survey other religions' views on the "afterlife". There are a few out there that believe in a Paradise earth too.

What can I say to JW's about Michael Jackson's life and death?

as an active witness, i am still in association with witnesses in field service, meetings, and occasionally at get-togethers.

we usually go to eat at a restaurant after the sunday meeting.. so tomorrow i am sure we will be talking about michael jackson.

i live in southern california, and i know one sister in our usual group has met mj's mother, and is very supportive of her.

This show is my guilty pleasure. I also read the books by Charlaine Harris that the show is based on. It's my "crack" ;-)

For those that were raised in the Truth, why did YOUR PARENTS become JW's?

it's weird putting two and two together after 40 years of have the two things separate.. my uncle was killed in a car accident in august of 1969. i was a child, but i remember my mother being very sad and crying and staying in her room.. it was in october of 1969 that the witnesses first visited my mom.

my mom was in the front yard watching us kids when jw's came door-to-door.

that sister and my mom are still friends to this day.. anyway, my mom started studying.

My mother's family was Lutheran, but mom believed that Armageddon would happen in 2000 and that she would "get holy" in 1990. Then my aunt started a Bible Study, told mom Armageddon was coming in 1975 and that lit a fire under her. She studied and got baptized in 1973.
