I'm a wage slave at a VERY large corporation, working in Marketing. I spend my weekdays there.
I can't read/post on JWD from work - something about our firewall/IE settings there. We're not supposed to use the Internet for personal use anyway. So I read the board at home most evenings and weekends, though I can only spend a few minutes doing so.

machiavellian a word that could have been invented for the borg leadership.
by edmond dantes ini happened to come across the word machiavellian.heard it plenty of times but never really knew what it meant.it's an adjective and sums up the jw leadership like no other word.it means as follows ; .
elaborately cunning ; scheming, unscrupulous, deceitful, shrewd, crafty, wily, foxy, tricky, perfidious, nefarious, treacherous, sneaky .. well i guess that just about covers it.unless anyone can come up with anymore.. .

Moving
by Xena inour settlement visas came thru and we have booked our flights for july 16th so it's official that we are moving to scotland.
i've already got a few boxes of confort goods (stuffed animals, photo albums and dvd's) packed and are now fixing to tear each room apart and sort it by what i want to take, store or sell.
it's a bit daunting.

I'm moving and downsizing now too. One of the best tips for me was to ask how long it's been since I've used an item. I had a bunch of stuff that I used once xx years ago, and haven't used since. That stuff has been donated to charity.
Beyond some of the other tips you got, one thing that helped me was to realize I didn't need to keep financial records older 7 years. I bought a heavy duty shredder at Staples (Mail Mate) which is fairly small and have been shredding 15 years worth of stuff. Just finished this morning.
I wish someone had suggestions for books, they are my weakness. Though it was easy to get rid of the WTS pubs - wonder why that is? ;-) -

A Potential Close Friendship....Should I Pass On It?
by R.F. ini'm currently active in the congregation but i want to make an exit.
now there is a brother about my age in my congo that i've spent more time with lately.
i really didn't consider him this at the time but he told me that he doesn't really have many he's open to, and he said he considers me one of those close friends of his.

I see anti-witnessing opportunities....
It seems that you may view this as a waste of time if you don't remain friends. So don't spend more time on this than you can afford to 'waste'. (I personally don't consider time spent with another human being a waste of time, because in the end, relationships are what matter, but that's my value system. ) -

Hi Ruby,
Great project!
I too have a df'ing story that I may consider sharing. I'll email you.
I haven't read all the posts so someone may have pointed this out. In the US, we are supposed to have freedom of religion, and presumably freedom from religion. For former/df'd/da'd JWs there's a high price to pay for that 'freedom': they lose family and friends if they don't come back in the fold. And even inactive JWs can be shunned. Baptism is viewed as a binding contract with severe penalties for breach of contract. Considering how many JWs are forced into baptism under 18, this is particularly troubling.
To me it's ironic that the WTS was quick to go to court to get certain rights, e.g. the flag salute and right to preach door to door. However, they don't grant rights to its members to leave the group without nearly unthinkable consequences.
JWs claim df'ing is scriptural. From a biblical standpoint, there is quite a contrast from the way the prodigal son is treated vs. an 'errant' JW. An examination of the few scriptures JWs use to support df'ing reveal that the JW approach is not so scriptural after all.
Please keep us informed. I can't wait to watch your film! Good luck!! -

What percentage of the congregation only see each other at the hall or f/s?
by truthseeker init's fairly well established that organized social activity is almost non-existent in kingdom halls worldwide.. .
the purpose of going to the hall and preaching is to worship god.
yet, the wt leave out a critical component to their.

I think that that many JW's in the cong I was in saw each other outside the hall, but since I was a weak JW and a single parent, I was seldom invited out except to parties where I was expected to buy things (pampered chef, etc.). The older ones weren't invited to much either.

I know I am on track in life when:
by zensim inon the weekend i did a deceptively simple exercise that was in fact so powerful - very profound and meaningful.
it has given me such a deeper understanding of my true nature, of what i live for and how i can live my life truthfully.
so i thought i would share the exercise here.. .
