  i really must be on here too much - 4000 posts and counting.. supreme one seemed so far away, not that long ago.. now it's a mere 1000 posts away - a drop in a bucket, six months at most, surely.... it seems so long ago, that i protested giving up my light-saber in preference of the fullness of "the force" imbued by the "emperor class".. and now another impending transformation.... to which i say.... .. .. .. .. .. .. ..

  Was watching "Now for something completely different" the other night as it happened to be on as I was flipping channels. I was dying from the "deadly joke" sketch where they translated into German to defeat the Nazis.

  One of the translators accidentally saw two of the words and had to be hospitalized.

  I agree with what Chevys said, it fills a need for a lot of people.

  It's like my brother in law always tells me, "well at least I have a hope". I mean thats what it comes down to when he acknowledges everything I tell him about what I think of the religion is probably true. Some people just cannot deal with this life that they have, some people need something concrete because they fear the unknown, and religion, especially something as 'specific' as the JW are fill that need for some quite nicely. Every question is explained and answered, the 'hope' is neatly packaged and mass produced for distribution. It doesn't matter if it is true or not, just if someone is convinced enough to believe it.

  "Because They're A Cult"........

  yesterday, a business associate asked me why jws would not celebrate a birthday, a bar mitzvah, or any other holiday.

  he asked why they literally believed only 144,000 go to heaven.

  he asked how they could celebrate everything 1 year and the next year, tell their families that everything is pagan........my answer to all of his questions, were "it's because they're a cult.

  do you think that god enjoys killing people?

  it sure sounds like it to me; jw doctrine more or less scared me into thinking that god is going to kill all persons whom he/she thinks is not doing his will.

  my question is, how can god kill someone for not being "christian", or following the bible out of sheer ignorance?

  In my opinion the bible was just written by men. The texts were used as religious documents and thus survived, being passed down to our day.
