Hi Blueblades.. Small world isn't it. When my son played there in October and we went I was amazed at what a small venue it is. I can only imagine how great it would have been to be there when the likes of the Comets, Neil Young and many more played. It really feels more like a large living room as opposed to a club. Thanks again for the good wishes, and too bad about the screenplay it sounds as if it would be pretty interesting!

Hi Oompa..Is it your son that is at Bethel that has a band? Do they have a myspace I would love to check him out. The Bitter End is a club on Bleeker Street in NYC. It's pretty famous for upcoming artists during the 60s 70s and so on. What they do on Sundays is have new writer composers come and play acoustically. It is just amazing to watch your kid doing what they are passionate about and supporting them unlike my life as JW.

Santa & Kids - To Lie or Not To Lie?
by sweet pea inthis will be our second christmas since leaving the wts but we will be away in nz with besty's extended family so probably won't bother much with trees and decorations but the santa issue is playing on my mind, especially now podlet no.
1 is at preschool.. do we bring the children up to believe in santa & co with all the magic, mystery and excitement associated with the fairytale or do we tell him right away what the deal is - either route is going to feel very strange.
my gut feeling is to go along with the myth and give them those happy memories of wonder and anticipation - what do you all think?.

It's not about lying to them. It is totally about making wonderful memories. I haven't come across one person who said"I'm totally messed up because my parents lied to me about Santa". I remember my one brother even though he was out of the organization he just couldn't deal with the Santa thing. His kids were already to old when he got out but mine were little. He always wanted to ruin it for them. I finally told him "everyone wants to believe in magic, whats wrong with it"? I always wanted to believe Peter Pan was real. BIG DEAL! My older son is 4 years older than his brother and he never wanted us to tell his brother. He never spoiled it for him. It's some of our fondest memories.

That's a fantastic ACT score. My son is in the process of sending out applications. He received a 30 ACT still considered very good. His first choice is NYU, he applied Early Decision so will see what happens. Very exciting for all of us!

I read the post about how much to spend this year and saw a lot of um bug ex-jws. It reminded me of my mom growing up. I was always looking for a party or some kind of fun. I never celebrated any holiday because I was born in. My dad was the Presiding Overseer and we were Uber JW's except me. I always hated it. I just wanted to enjoy life. She would always say these depressing things at Christmas time, like "look at all the lonely people no one even cares about. It just all about money and commercialism". Then I grew up escaped had children. It took me years to just get the whole thing together. Now I LOVE IT!!! My ex-JW brother and his family come to my home for Christmas Eve, with my husbands family. We all exchange silly little presents, have a great meal and laugh and drink the night away. My brother even buys a tree now!!!I spend Christmas with my family and others a give out presents to two projects up in Bridgeport. The go to a friends home and enjoy each others company, and talk about how to change the world. Just alittle different from my mothers toally depressing view...Thank GOD I got out.

We love Christmas. Mt ex-jw brother and his family come to my home for Christmas Eve with my husbands family. We all give each other gifts. Christmas Day I take my family to give out gifts that our church donated to two different projects in Bridgeport. We usually go over another friends home and have dinner and play some silly game. It's just about enjoying each other, spending time with people, and hopefully helping someone other than yourself. (just my 2cents).
