  Is the Jehovah’s Witnesses organization really a cult?

  im sure the question has been brought up before on this board and i imagine that for many of us the answer is patent.

  however, i recently saw a documentary on pbs regarding the mormons and it stated categorically that the church of jesus christ of latter day saints is not a cult.

  given that it has its own set of strangeness and history of revision as has the wtbts, could it also (the jw) be considered a main stream, although minor religion?.

  some of you know me from a few years ago, and my oldest son (18) is a musician and a college freshman.

  well one of his songs will be featured as the song of the day on an indie internet station.

  his names is nicholas james and the song is there she goes.

  Peaches and Yknot thanks for checking him out. It really is amazing to be behind someone and help them to follow their passions. So unlike JW's. I remember not even being allowed to be in a play at school. My mom was a semi-professional singer and had to resort to Kingdom Songs!!! I am so supportive because as we all know here how important it is to follow your dreams.

  I am an oldie and just stopped by again. I live in CT for 15 years. Originally from Long Island. Raised JW, dad elder and PO , 3 brothers pioneers. Mom died a few years ago from blood disease because she didn't take plalelets. DF and reinstated and then left never DF/DA but married outside jw. Always thought is was nonsense but didn't really care. Then my mom got sick and I started to research the whole blood issue and that was it for me. I found this website(the original) and the rest is history. My dad is still at 90 an elder in Clearwater FL and I have one brother who remains a JW on LI. I have two boys, high school & college. My older son is also a musician singer/songwriter and perform in NYC and Brooklyn of all places!!

  I can just hear my JW dad now and all the nonsense. I am dreading calling him. The only thing is he turns 90!!!this week so I guess I will have to just deal with it.

  My Dad Died Today

  he has been ill for some time, but it was still unexpected.

  he was never a jw and i didn't really have a close relationship with him, since he remarried after my parents divorced.

  i reunited with him in the mid 90's after over 10 years of not seeing him.. .

  Need some support

  i don't post very often but i'm in need of some support.. i left my husband and the jw's back in the summer.

  we have 3 kids and have joint custody of them.. i've spoken to my family once - back in the fall and it was a great conversation - my parents (dad is an elder) said that they just wanted me to be happy however that is.. last week i got a voicemail from my mom saying that she loved me and thought about me every day.

  i was so happy.

  Hang in there. The fact that you can already see that you are a better mom is a great sign. Definitely look for support from some non-jw's. Is your whole family JW's? As far as your children they will far so much better without the negative and repressed lifestyle of JW.s. Always come here for advice or just to vent with people who understand first hand.

  Have a great day..and give your kids some Valentine candy they'll love it!
