i'm actually sat here shocked at how bad that was.

just got back from a concert at our little local community theatre, 200seats.

anyway they're not flamenco, as gabriella was keen to point out. they started out in mexico in a thrash metal band, and have a fusion of rock, latin and jazz. They're playing some shows in australia, then heading back to europe and the uk for may/june, and some shows in canada and the states in august.
if you get the chance....go and see them!
i was raised in the jw cult from birth until i left when i was 18(i am now 34).
i hated it from the beginning, but because my mom was so strict, there was nothing i could do about it.
(my dad didn't belong to the jws but i didn't get much sympathy or support from him - he didn't want to "rock the boat".
YES!!
when I faded i had the visit from 2 elders and i told them that i did not want anything to do with organised religion as people end up on a power trip.
I have attended several churches sporadically but have found judgemental attitudes in all of them.............i guess that's just people!
welcome to the forum, stick around, it's a good place to support and be supported
best wishes D
i was adopted into a jw family in southern california.
my birth mother gave me up after 6 months (the terms mom & dad refer to my adoptive/real parents).
she gave me up due to the fact that she already had a three year old boy, and back in the late sixties it was not as socially acceptable to be a single mother.
xjw4eva. Just read your thread in one sitting, and want more! I was hooked at the beginning as i have two adopted sisters that my jw parents adopted when they were small babies.
Your story telling skills are compelling and entertaining, thank you for sharing, and I look forward to reading more of your posts.
Best wishes

i posted a little about this last night but i figured i would post the rest for you guys, this is the conversation that i had last night with the sister that studied with me.
she called me and wanted to know if i had plans for the memorial, i told her that i would not be going this year and the following is the conversation we had:.
jw: oh no, you can't miss the memorial, if you can't make it to the one in your hall why don't you cme to ours?.
((((lola)))), hope you sleep well. work out the best strategy for you at this time. If it's better for you to stay in then DENY, DENY, DENY.....
if you've had enough and don't care anymore then you're almost there. I had two elders come to my house telling me that they cared about my future and would i come back to meetings. I said that i thought all organised religion was on the wrong track, people get carried away with their own sense of self importance and i didn't want to have any more to do with the organisation.
that was 23 years ago and I haven't heard anything since, was not disfellowshipped either. Maybe it's better for you to slip under the radar too, but it's your choice.
thinking of you

ive just ordered "crisis of conscience" from amazon.

i am already totally free from dubdom but will this book make sure that i never return?

Just read your other post, welcome to the board, glad you've and your wife have found happiness. I too was born in, Scottish, moved to Australia when I was 21 (24 years ago) and faded. My family in australia and Scotland are still in, my parents shunned for around 18 months but are pretty good with me now.
I had read various books on cults and the witnesses when I first left and although i was completely over it i felt that maybe there was some elements of truth in the religion. I only read COC and could not put it down. I can't understand how anyone could read it and "not have the blinkers fall off".
My mum saw the book on my bookshelf and had a quick flick through it. She said "i know they've made mistakes but so did king david". They still feel it's the best there is!? Whe I told them some other stuff about un and child abuse they laughed and denied it but i found out later that they did go onto the internet to check some things out........so there's always hope.
Best wishes

i was reading some of the first " topics " on this db and i noticed that a few former elders and publishers .
were stumbled by this date.... i was born after 1975 and i'd really appreciate any comments from brothers and sisters who were around .
what i've noticed from personal experience is that many brothers and sisters feel that only " a few " were stumbeled .
I was born a witness, and fifteen in 75. There was a great sense of expectancy in our congregation in the years leading up to that time. Although my elder dad tempered it with "no man knows the day/hour"
I know of people who sold up and went travelling the year before, and know that many were stumbled over the society's attitude to this issue. They may not have put it in writing, but they set it up in many ways.
Still can't work out how to get pics on here!
now i've got all these extra lines too, and can't get rid of them.
Tij, you rockers are all the same, got this pic from this site - http://www.av1611.org/666/rock_666.html
