Here's yet another WT contradiction for you;The Society say that to refer to someone as 'brother' or 'sister' such-and such puts them in a much closer and loving relationship to you than by referring to them by their first name!Says who? So for consistency with that directive we should refer to Jehovah as Father or some other deferential title.Even Bart knows how it winds Homer up.

Using God's name in vain
by These3Words ini"ve always wondered why jw's use god's first name, "jehovah" if that's what his first name really is, and is spelled correctly?
people usually don't call their father's by their first name.isn't that disrespectful?
shouldn't we call him "heavenly father?that way it applies to whatever higher power you believe in?.

My mother's meltdown
by sass_my_frass inokay, another self-indulgent post from sass about my mother.
this one's a keeper, it's today's cellphone text war.
a bit of background; she's had the book study moved from her place as her conscience doesn't permit her to have it there while she's still in contact with me, her disfellowshipped daughter.

Spawned in the U.S.A.- Cults
by bigmouth insometime back in one of the wts mags the question was posed as to why god would choose an american (russel) to head his earthly church rather than say someone in africa or asia.i think the writer was from a middle eastern country.the society replied that if jehovah chose to use an american that was his prerogative.so there!
but it does seem to me that the u.s.a. does have more than its fair share of cults and religious nuts.
is my impression right?

JWs & Trying to Ruin Others' Holidays (long vent)
by rebel8 inwell here i go with my annual holiday stress thanks to my jw relatives............if you are wondering why i'm on this forum after not being a jw myself for so long, there's your explanation.. i realize they have their beliefs against the holidays but it is soooooooo inappropriate to subvert others' participation in holiday celebrations, isn't it?
(rhetorical question there) i mean, if i did it to them they'd claim i was persecuting them!
i have decided i am going to tell them to stop persecuting me!

I have to tell you, I have given up on my mother!!! We DO NOT talk anymore
Mothers eh?Can't live with them and you can't kill them!
Welcome nicholeb and anointed2.My mother was such a mind control freak that I had to keep myself and my family away from her for about 5 years until she died. The realisation of her mortality never even prompted her to change her attitude. -

Is it all downhill after leaving JW's?
by lynnmelo ini know many people will get angry at this, but i had to share some observations i've had since i discovered this board a couple of days ago (see my original post under "why all the venom?").
i'll be very honest and say that i was hoping that i would discover that the jw's were wrong about some things, including the so-called "apostate" sites (i have been recommended to some internet sites and some books that i plan to investigate further).
i was hoping to find that people really didn't need the jw's "spiritual food" to remain true to god.

lynnmelo, may I suggest that you are going about things in a back-to-front way.Re. your statement above; you have stated a hope and are now trying to find support for the premise.I'm becoming confused as to what you are asking.
You have a range of people and personalities here and you can get a cross section of their feelings. Is there something else you need to know?

Nowhere else to go
by joelbear inthere is really nowhere else for me to post about what goes on inside me.
i know that my problems aren't all because i was a witness.
the agony in my mind has led me to a psychiatrist.. he has diagnosed me with cyclothymic mood disorder, a milder form.

Another newbie
by jessthebull ini just wanted to introduce myself, i have been lurking around for a while reading posts and identifying with so many of the experiences within them.
i have only stopped going to the meetings in the last year and it is only in the last couple of months that i have really started to research this "religion" that has been such a huge part of my life.
i dont live at home any more but am still in regular contact with my jw family and one or two friends.

Women can't think for themselves.
by wanderlustguy injust got back from my brother'splace after being there for three weeks.
i forgot how the org teaches you to view women.
his wife just became the manager of a video store, and i felt so sorry for her when she was talking to him about her work.

I won't express my views either because I'm a white middle class man who must bear the backlash for centuries of mis-treatment of women by some men. Am I still allowed to hold the door open for you?

What Did YOU Give Up For The "Truth"???
by minimus indid you forfeit a college education, a great paying job which would've kept you from the meetings, a career, a trade, your loved ones, a vacation, etc.
so that you could be a good little witness?
