Do you have any kind of obsession?
by JH ini'm obsessed with new cars.
i'd trade a $50,000 car for a brand new $40,000 one the year after, and trade it again for a $30,000 brand new one the year later, and trade it again for a $20,000 one year after that.
as long as i get a new one every year or so, i love the feeling, even if it's less equipped.

Are JW esperiences simply Coincidental?
by Smoky ini saw a home video of a dc in san fransico yesterday, in which to camara man asked "what didi you like from day one of the convention?
" among the answers given was the amazing "experiences" the brothers told.. now as far as i can remember, jw's always said things like, 'the experiences show that jehovah is blessing us and is in our favor.'.
but dont other religions have amazing experiences that claim also miracles and blessing from god.

I remember, at a DC the brother who was my best man gave an incredible experience from the stage. Now I knew the guy pretty well but I had no idea how he performed this mind-blowing event without telling me as we saw each other nearly every week!
When the ass. was over I asked him when 'all this' happened. He just looked embarrassed and mumbled something about it being a true experience, just not his! -

Jw's hypocritical view of 'Sincerity'....
by AK - Jeff inwitnesses always use this argument to provide proof of the need to 'examine one's religion'.;.
"sincerity alone will not please god, but worshipping him in 'truth' will".....yet when faced with clear wrong doctrine or chronology or misapplied scripture the common witness reply is to 'leave it in jehovah's hands and he will correct it in his due time'.
if he can correct it within the religion of jehovah's witnesses - why can't he correct the same problems within the other churches?.

As a Witness, it never occured to me that I didn't have the 'truth'.I was exempt from such a need to study anything, it was all done for me!
As I became more critical, the oft repeated statement to 'not forget where you first learned the truth' began to bother me. It was always explained that if you came across something that didn't make sense then just leave it in Jehovahs hands. If you've got to research the matter outside the orgs. literature then you must be weak. -

I am a magnet for men in cults
by kristyann inokay, so the ex-jw boyfriend and i finally broke up... and i am not really looking for anyone right now.
that was 2 and a half years of a pretty crazy relationship, and i don't think that i was particularly healthy staying in it.
i don't mind just hanging out with some guys, but i am not in the mood for anything serious after that roller coaster ride.. do you know what is so weird, though?

"Maybe Mormon men hate those ugly, frumpy garments that they have to wear so that's why they have some sort of fetish for women in sexy little dresses"
I wonder what sort of sexy Mormon undies Marie Osmond wore under her little dresses?
Don't let the outward appearance of normality and sobriety fool you any more than the dubs do. Cultish thinking is better left behind before you make any kind of relationship.

by DesertRat injust a quick message to thank everybody for the outpouring of support in response to my very first post on this site.
i came here only expecting one or two replies at most, and could not possibly have anticipated so much more.
the encouragement i have found meant more to me than the final two or three years of indifference and unconcern encountered among my so-called 'brothers' at the kingdom hall.. i shared this experience with my therapist on wednesday and could not stop crying as i explained to her just what it means to be a jw 'castaway' (rootless and seemingly without a friend in the world) who has found hope and understanding in an online community of people who seem to have been there all along--through the same long years of deceit, hypocrisy, anguish and alienation from the world around.

By the way I've just read your profile and it was very moving.
ADD, OCD, depression and Aspergers would be too much for any elder to bother with....more field service, more study , more prayer!!!
I've had a foot in one of your shoes. -

Welcome Desertrat,
I understand the mixed feelings you must have had speaking of your feelings to your therapist.
I had been in and out of hospital and counselling for about 12 years before I could commit an 'unforgivable sin' by talking about my life as a witness for the first time last December. Listening to others on this board made it so much easier because of knowing I was not alone. I just have to watch that I don't form too much of a needy connection here on JWD! It can be time consuming! Sometimes you just want to reply to everyone.
All the best,
Pete
