My roommate went to the one day assembly yesterday

10 baptized - 6 female, 4 male --- youngest 10 yrs old, oldest 66 yrs old.

Here's how it goes; Child does all that is asked of him, parents are so proud at such a spiritual child. Congregation fawn over child and congratulate parents. Witnesses to kids and teachers and seen out on field service. Puts hand up at nearly every WT question. Polite, respectful and........sensitive. Sensitive to the needs of his parents. Wants them to be proud of him.
Reaching 14 now. Mum and Dad are fallible and can make mistakes. He is making less self centred observations of the big world.
One of two or three things happen. Fear of the outside world causes him to cling to the Society and remain insulated. Need to think clearly stops.
Or, he gets a nasty sense that something is wrong with his omniscient Watchtower. Puberty kicks in.
Mental conflict, hormones and the need to question everything starts. (all normal stuff)
Judicial committee, difellowshipping, shunning. Fear of returning. Fear of NOT returning. Troubled conscience, isolation, loss of love providers, guilt, worthlessness, hopelessness, (suicide??)
With the baptizing of kids, i.e. LOCKING THEM INTO A PERMANENT CONTRACT WITH 'GOD', under, say, 20 you may as well baptize infants!
Unconditional love is required for your kids while they continue to learn from their dumb mistakes. -

Why is Europe more liberal then the United States?

any ideas?
apparently being liberal does not lead to an economic power house, but it does lead to a lot of hatred of the united states in these countries.

Kwin, from our point of view Canadians are more like us and Australians are more like Americans. Although I have to say most Kiwis couldn't spot a Canadian accent from an American accent. On the other hand most of us could tell if an Englishman came from Liverpool or Newcastle.

anyone else out there land on a psych ward after being df'd???
by Messy inits a long story that starts with panic attacks going door to door and ended with a 2 month vacation in the cornwall on.
psych floor for two months.
i was stalked by the elders for 3 years after i stopped going to meetings.

Hi Messy, thanks for posting! I'm not DF'd yet but a long time fader.
Spent many episodes in psych. wards over the last 9 years. My depressive and panicky episodes are less intense now and further apart. I'm now able to assist others in the mental health field.
The weight of guilt and misery was miraculously lifted about 18 months ago when I first told my psychiatrist of my being involved with the dubs. It co-incided with posting on here. My therapist was immediately able to tailor her help toward me more specifically. Lo and behold she had had a number of other Witness clients.
Glad you've got a great hubby!

I have spent a number of years working in and around Queenstown (Lord of the Rings site) where there is a large number of American landowners and visitors. I have gained the impression that there is so much going on in the USA that the rest of the world hardly exists! Many come here and wish that New Zealand was just like America. Many are pleasant enough but kind of in their own world if you know what I mean. -

Facts about the NT Bible
by Amazing inhistorically, the bible is a secondary support for christians and jews.
i was raised roman catholic, and our tradition and practices included the bible, but it was not a key centerpiece of our faith.
the jewish side of my family likewise have a rich history of tradition and faith that is lived, and not pinned down to every word in the bible.

This matter of the NT being put together by the Catholic Church is quite a new realization to me and you've given me a good start to research it.
One thing, have I read this sentence correctly? ;
'The New Testament is a Catholic work, built upon Catholic criteria, and Catholic claims of inspiration long after the Watchtower considered the Catholic Church to be completely apostate.'
Should 'after' read 'before'?

Mt 24:14 fulfilled - response from dubs and CO
by mavie ini was talking to a current jw about this issue.
i asked if they had heard about mt 24:14 being fulfilled, to which they replied 'no'.
had told them that the wt has said that scripture had been fulfilled a long time ago, which they did..... i then asked, 'so you *have* heard about mt 24:14 being fulfilled since your co is talking about it....'well, ya'.(!!

What was the view on hunting in your former congregation?
by zack inin the area i live hunting and fishing are big sports.
quite a few of the brothers hunt.
they keep it under the radar, though.. what about you're area?.

Mate of mine, (Elder in a central North Island cong.) and his father were keen hunters. Got told that hunting for sport would disqualify him for 'priveleges'.
And everybody fishes. No problem. The oceans and rivers are infested with fish.
