I love accents and enjoy mimicking them. Especially as we have a lot from 'the Old Country' over here. But we've been having a bit of a problem with the large number of Asian and Arab accents that seem to gravitate toward working in customer service for large companies.
My wife had to ask a lady who was in CS for an internet provider if she could speak to someone in English! She pleasantly replied that she was "seeking Engrish"LOL.
Recently I had to write to American Express because I simply could not get my message through to anyone on their service phone. My accent was the problem here.
I think the trick is to learn to become attuned to how vowels are used.
Spend time listening to comedians. Try Billy Connolly, Robin Williams, Bill Cosby and , say, George Carlin. When you can get all the jokes of those four without straining then I think you'll be getting the hang of deciphering accents.
Welcome to the board. I hope your No. 4 talks go from 'W's to 'G's.

Do you still believe that you have a chance of living eternally?
by JH inor, is it completely out of the question, and you know for sure that this life is it, and there is nothing else after.. maybe you believe that there is a possibility of eternal life, but you don't qualify..

My missus is gonna bung me in the deep freeze until a scientist figures out how to eliminate the 'dying' gene.
Hmm, how about the Pet Semetary idea? -

"This Generation Will Not Pass Away"
by TooBad TooSad inthe well written post yesterday by onthewayout got me thinking about the doctrine on "this generation".
wts doctrine was in their top 7 doctrines right behind: 1) only 144,000 go to heaven, 2) the earth will be turned into a paradise,.
3) god is not a trinity, 4) not to take blood, 5) hell is not hot, 6) be no part of the world, 7) this generation will not pass away until of.

". The WTBTS comes up with an invisible generation.."
'Invisible Generation', 'Invisible Presence ', good grief! We're watching The Butterfly Effect according to the Watchtower.
BTW, I asked two visiting elders last year about the generation change in 1995 and neither was aware of it! Not even the re-wording on P.3 of the WT's. Until I showed them. -

Jehovah's Christian Witnesses??
by Grammy inis it true that jw's now refer to themselves as jehovah's christian witnesses?

I'm not certain that there's a legal entity known as Jehovahs Christian Witnesses, but the term has been used at least since the early '80's to pre-empt householders/customers from assuming they're a Jewish or Old Testament type of group that doesn't recognise Jesus.

How can we know if we have GodÂ’s holy spirit?
by Doug Mason in* we can call jesus our lord (1 cor 12:3) .
* we can discern spiritual things (1 cor.2:13, 14. compare john 7:37-39) .
* we may know we belong to god (1 john 3:24) .

You need to have a slightly 'glazed' look and a certain detachment from people around you.
You need to convince yourself The Lord has entered into you and said you must condemn others with whom you disagree. (While both quoting Biblical scripture). -

Nah. He'll be all right. I mean, if it wasn't for drugs and alcohol Keith Richards wouldn't look so good.

My JW life.
by PEC inmy sister and i were raised in the "truth", by our mother alone, working for minimum wage.
as a young child, i remember being give a dollar or two every week to put in the contribution box at the kh, my mother was making $40 to $60 a week and gave that cult $2, plus the gas for fs, plus the cost of books and magazines.
we had 6 6' tall bookcases all full of the watchtower and awake annual volumes, back to the 50's or 40's, plus every book the wtbts ever published.

Thank you for posting this PEC. You did remarkably well.
I related to this comment; "This abandoned caused my Mother and Sister to hate men and me the unfortunate owner of a penis, became their outlet of this hatred. "
I had a slightly different upbringing but my mother too became a man hater. As a little boy I'm sure I got belted and yelled at for being the wrong sex. The confusion that stays with me to this day is that I am uncomfortable with men and self conscious with women. I believe that all women think I am a potential rapist. I feel guilty for the treatment of women through history yet I feel vulnerable as a symbol of oppression of them.
Even on JWD when a woman expresses a disdain for male thinking or habit I feel sick and want to say that 'We're not like that!' But I guess all men will always be bastards. It just feels hopeless. -
