Errr, welcome rmcgill_leader. Thank you for your first up post, but.....
I can't understand the number of people that come here and post and just haven't read a bit to find out what's going on!
I sense you have a degree of righteous Christian zeal but do take the time to find out about the people you are talking at.
Thanks,
Pete

If you are a Jehovah's Witness,
by rmcgill_leader inif you are a jehovah's witness please understand that i am not against you as an individual.
i am not an apostate from the watchtower organization and, of course, i was never baptized as a jehovah's witness.
however, when i was 17, i studied with the jehovah's witnesses for a couple of months, but quit.

Jesus, the Cross, and the Thief
by sinis inso my old man and i went hunting the other day (he used to be a po, and myself an ms), and eventually the conversation came around to jw (he detests them after the fucked him over royal).
we start talking about jesus, and how the wts changes the comma when the bible says that jesus told the thief, "truly i tell you today, you will be with me in paradise".
however is aware that the greek had no punctuation and it probably should have the comma before "today".

You mean like doing a 'one off' job?
Actually, that could change the meaning of a number of Bible events. It could mean that some things that are viewed as prophetic patterns or types and antitypes could just be 'an event', nothing more!
Cooool idea. -

In about 1985 the P.O. visited my wife and I about YMCA membership. Here's part of a letter I wrote when I learned of the U.N. fiasco;
A few years ago now my Mum separated (temporarily) from my father and came to live with my wife and I and our two children. We had a small house and were struggling to earn a living, get to meetings and field service etc. along with Mum being quite upset. After a short while, she decided to get a flat of her own to take some of the pressure off us. So she briefly rented an emergency room at the YWCA.
We were quite relieved, but after a couple of days we had a visit from our Presiding Overseer who counseled us on the inappropriateness of letting my mother being looked after by a member of Babylon the Great. We explained that it was just a room for a few weeks and there was no interfaith or anything like that.
He then showed the correctness of his counsel by directing us to Questions From Readers in the Watchtower of Jan. 1st. 1979 concerning membership of the YMCA. It said in part;.......
And then the quote AlmostAtheist posted.
This event sealed the hypocrisy for me.
Cheers,

"I was wondering if you are really from New Zealand?"
Yes Purps, I really, truly am!
I live in the province of Otago which is in the bottom of the South Island. About 3 hours drive from Queenstown if you know where that is.
Why do you ask? -

I was just thinking, at one of my lowest points I had TWO YEARS of W/t's and Awakes on my bedside cabinet waiting for me to catch up with the bountiful spiritual food!
I beat myself up for not being able to stay on top of the Theocratic Workload.
No wonder I felt worthless. -

Well we used to talk about what would happen if we fell off a cliff in the new system or sat under a falling coconut. Obviously we couldn't die!
The thought generally mentioned was that our super powerful perfect brain could detect and analyze these potential dangers well in advance and so avoid them.
Not the 'Golden Age' rambling. More like the 'Concrete Age' of the '80's. -

Jehovah's Witness Paper/21 Questions of JW Core Beliefs and Operations
by Fitz ini have received such wonderful responses from many of you that i am having a difficult time deciding who to use for my paper, so i am going to put the 21 questions out there for everyone to see and answer.
my goal will be to use the answers from current and past jw's.
1. who is god?.

"By the way, I like the abbreviation JW, it sure helps with the typing."
I was just thinking Fitz, that JW's and ex-JW's have a whole heap of 'in house' jargon and abbreviations.
Perhaps respondents could use the official terminologies for your benefit. e.g borg, M.S., J.C. etc. etc. -

Visiting my sons workplace yesterday and a colleague of his calls me over.
"Tell me what you know about Jehovahs Witnesses" he says.
Where did THAT come from I wondered.
It turns out that he has studied and attended meetings erratically over about 3 years and has had a gutsfull. He must have spilled some to my son who said that he had been brought up a Witness and now we were all out.
The interesting (unprompted) comments he made in our short chat was that he had got the sense of never being good enough, never doing enough. He had a breakdown in the midst of it and during this time had learned that near HALF the congregation were on anti-depressants!
I gave him a look that said 'Well, what does that tell you?'
I told him that I had found that I was in a cult for 15 years and never knew it. Then one day I found myself in hospital. I told him to get as far from the pessimistic Witnesses as he possibly could.
So I reckon I got more anti-witnessing time in than Hortensia!!!LOL -

Hi Renae, you have been through some crap! I agree.
It sounds like you're trying to 'find yourself' as the saying goes. You're not pleasing anybody else and you're not happy either.
Start by avoiding the KH and its atmosphere at all costs.
You don't need to be 'rebellious' to make good non JW friends. There are good decent people everywhere. Find them at sports and special interest clubs, volunteer groups and at work and by word of mouth.
Don't narrow your options anymore!
Welcome to JWD,
Pete
