I know I sound nationalistic, but Air New Zealand.
I'm a bit of an aircraft nut, and believe me, when other airlines send their aircraft to NZ for repairs and maintenance you know there's some clever turkeys fiddling with your Pratt & Whitney !
Oh, and don't fly with Garuda. Bits fall off.

How many of you feel you have had more material success AFTER leaving JW
by BBOARD inhow many of us since either mentally or physically leaving the witnesses have had more material success ... or any other kind of success that needed time ... the kind that was given back to you when you stopped attending jw meetings.
you see my mother has come down with a little flu over the past two weekends and this has in proxy allowed me to miss, already, 2 thursday /saturday (book study & field service)/ and sunday meeting.
in just these two short weeks i have had more time to go online and run my half.com small-time book business, study more for those tests, and live fun.

Does this picture in the Bible Teach book promote racial stereotypes?
by truthseeker ini noticed that in the "what does the bible teach" book, there is a picture that seems to reinforce negative stereotypes about certain races.. .
.
look at the picture closely.. the black girl is stealing, the latino men are portrayed as gangsters and only the white guy is having a smoke and a drink.. i showed this picture to an elder and asked whether or not he thought this picture was racist and he agreed that it was.. what are your thoughts?.

I think there is often more than a grain of truth in stereotypes but it can become embellished and exaggerated over time.
From watching American TV and music videos I can see why people automatically link certain races to certain behaviour.
We don't have anything like the racial conflict you do in the U.S. so your sensitivity seems a little bewildering to those of us looking in.
And don't forget; the WTBTS are on record as having a patronising view of the Black Man! -

Is accepting a whole blood transfusion a DF offense?

Cognac - "So you wouldn't get d'f in Bulgaria based on the blood issue or apostasy?"
I'm not sure this was answered for you. On reading the official documents you might get that impression, that Bulgaria is a safe haven, but, as TD has so clearly pointed out, even in Bulgaria the act of accepting a transfusion would be construed as " I choose by my actions to no longer be one of Jehovah's Witnesses". The WT are masters of clever word use and fork-tonguedness. No wonder many posters see them as a book company run by lawyers!

the elders stood up in the public gallery when the judge walked in
by looloo inthis is something i have just remembered , you know when the court official says "all rise" when the judge walks into crown court , i remember the elders rising along with perps wife and supporters , and victims familys , i did not think a jw would be able to show this sign of respect for a judge , considering other rules and regulations ,anyone know the explanation for that?
also it mentioned in court that the perps brothers and sisters (jws) were supporting the perp who is disfellowshipped but were never in court in person do you think the elders would have told them not to go as it would be a "bad witness " considering he was pleading guilty to some charges of child sex abuse and if so why was his jw wife allowed to show support ?
any elders out there who may know , i didnt get answers from the local elders .

"I think it has something to do with paying ceasars things to ceasars. sort of like when I was a kid, we could stand when they raised the flag if we wanted but we had better not salute it."
"same thing with the National Anthem if I remember correctly. We just couldn't put our hand on our heart or some such crap..."
Re. the above comments, my understanding was that even performing these things would be compromising our Christian neutrality.
Although we don't have flag salute in NZ, standing for the National Anthem was tantamount to the same thing.
In a court of secular law though I think this shows proper respect for the judge's position. In the same way you might stand for a schoolteacher or a lady etc.. -

My conversation with a Born Again.
by yourmomma ini spoke with a born again today.
i am wondering if this person represents how they all think or just some.
i'll assume just some.

My experience with those who identified themselves as 'Born Again' during the '80's and '90's was that JW's and Mormons were going straight to hell, no question.
I can only say that this group must have softened their viewpoint since.
Another thing; these people always looked and behaved like my old stoner mates! They got the glazed eyes and would TALK. None would listen to what I had to say but I guess that was mutual ;) -

This girl describes the feelings of, probably, hundreds of thousands of conscientious Witnesses.
The Organisation rapes them of their time and energy.
As personal matters become neglected, the Witness thinks that more service, more study and more prayer will cause Heavenly Blessings to fix everything.
I hope she got out before feelings of worthlessness killed her. -

Herbert W. Armstrong - memories
by Jim_TX inan ad that appears when viewing certain pages on the jwd web site refer to herbert w. armstrong - and his religion.. i remember this fella... not personally - but through the radio - and his preaching that he used to do on the air.. i remember tuning in a radio station - far far away (when i was a kid) - in del rio, tx (or perhaps across the border in mexico - xerf?).
he would get air time, and then preach - for what seemed like hours - although, i'm sure that it was only a 30 minute spot - or perhaps an hour-long spot of air-time.. i even seem to remember telling my mom at the time how much he sounded like jehovah's witnesses - in what he was preaching about.. i also remember my mom defending the jws - saying - essentially - that herbert armstrong was a kook.
armstrong had his own set of literature... i really think that he was a 'subscriber' to jw literature... and probably stole many ideas from the watchtowers... or other publications that he could get his hands on.. or... perhaps it's the other way... perhaps the jws 'borrowed' from his literature.. in any case... it brings back memories.. regards,.

I think the H. W. Armstrong radio broadcasts must have been the earliest memories I have of somebodys religion.
Mum used to have a transistor radio on the frig and he used to boom out for what seemed like hours every evening with his long American vowels.
Mum used to say that he sounds just like the Witnesses with whom she had started studying.
This would be about 1971 I think. You can still find The Plain Truth in some fish and chip shops. -

Apart from "My Book Of Bible Stories" and the "Paradise" book?
by Crumpet incall it my anal retentious streak, but i've rated every book i've ever read since i was 7. i had phases of favourite writers.. i was an enid blyton fan - the faraway tree, famous five, secret seven, mallory towers series.
then i got hooked on franklin w dixon's hardy boys and judy blume's eye opening, straight talking stories about growing up which really taught me everything i knew about what life was like for a normal girl not growing up in the jw world.
i started reading agatha christie when i was 9 and remember taking the maximum number of books i could from the mobile library van that came to our village and being as impatient for its fortnightly return as i was for the afternoon icecream van.

Hi Crumpet.
'Biggles' stories by Capt. W.E. Johns.
"I loved "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", I was a huge C.S. Lewis fan." - Layla, one of my kids told me that Peter Jackson was going to direct 'The Lyin' Bitch in the Wardrobe' !
