Were I a woman, I might find your attitude toward them rather offensive. Mayhap that be the reason you have no "lady friend".

...As we can see, brothers, if Jehovah can use a donkey to talk (see balaam) then he would be able to wave his magic wand and get some animals onto a giant boat.

Gen Xers--Who remembers when Smurfs were Demonic?
by apostawriter inwhen word came down that a smurf jumped up in the middle of a meeting, yelled 'i've had enough of this shit!
' and stormed out, i was probably 9 years old.
at the time i had a smurf record.

I heard one of a smurf poster that kept falling off the wall( in some kids bedroom) and trying to smother the kid. I also heard the not being able to burn smurf stuff stories and the smurfs running up the KH aisle. We only had one or two channels of tv so if the smurfs were on we watched it anyhow (on the off chance we were home on Saturday morning) Usually didn't have the chance to watch the damn smurfs anyway cuz of field service.

Rejecting God or rejecting religion?
by kojo ini have read many posts on here and on other websites from people who were brought up or became immersed in a particular religion or belief system, who later ,often because of bad experiences with their religion, went to the opposite extreme of not believing in god at all.
this often puzzles me because i wonder if people who reject a belief in god because of the hypocrisies they experienced in their former belief really are rejecting god or just a man-made organization which claims to be god's spokesman and has shown to be anything but.. i was raised in a presbyterian church which is about as traditional and conservative as you can get and my image of god was molded by that belief.
i saw the services and people there as dead basically.

My best argument against an interested god? If there is a god in the sky who cares more about punishing me for my stupid choices than doing something for the starving and oppressed people all over the world, then I don't want to "serve" that god anyway.
Who would? That is the god of the Watchtower, and the god that some people have put a spin on. Not the God that I know. And He said all the other gods are fakes.
Actually, that is the god of the bible. The only spin put on it is by bible believers. Those who don't believe in the bible do not have to "spin" it. You simply point right at the words and, lo and behold, it says (paraphrased): I(god) have the power to cure the world of everything!!!!!!!!... but I'm gonna wait on it for a while. It's a secret when I'll do it and I'm not telling anyone!

Thanks for your responses.
I've decided I will be going. I do have non-JW relatives as well who will be there so I can hang with them. I'm not all that concerned with "elders". I wouldn't really consider being confrontational at someones wedding either, and was probably being overly concerned with the issue. People aren't there to see me, they are there to see some friends of theirs get married, and hopefully to have a good time.

Thanks for the replies. I was considering just the gift thing too, but I guess I don't really dislike my cousin so I myself have no good reason for not going. I shouldn't hold being brainwashed against these people, plus I could bring my wife into a hall for something other than a funeral. Showing up right on time sounds like a good idea. They do not fully shun me, though I suspect they would if they knew my true feelings. It's that whole "keeping my mouth shut" so as not to upset people that makes me feel like ... just not me. I guess I'll probably suck it up and make an appearance. After all, I don't want to be guilty of shunning them because I disagree with their thoughts or beliefs. However, if anyone brings anything up, then it is no-holds-barred. I can chill with my non JW relatives anyhow. My wife knows some of them and we can make fun of what I am sure will be crappy Kindom maladies for music.
Besides, I'm kinda poor right now, so any gifts we give won't be that extravagant anyhow.

to an atheist, saying they reject god, is like saying they reject leprechauns. To reject something it has to be there to be rejected. In order for you to have prayed to Jesus, someone had to tell you that there was a Jesus, be it in some sort of book or through verbal communication. Basically, you have to take some human's word for it that some sort of communication to them from some invisible source of power has taken place, which is what you are asking some of us to do as well.
I imagine that you might secretly (or not so secretly) scoff at someone who claimed that they have a freind who is an invisible rabbit named Harry. How is not believing in Invisible friendly rabbits any different from not believing in all powerful invisible beings? I myself cannot reconcile the differences, other than there being more word of mouth support for the latter.
I myself was raised as a Jehovah's Witness which claimed to be knowing the bible. It was already to be understood that the bible was a sure thing. They, as all bible based religions, use parts of the bible that speak of true things to verify that the entire bible is therefore true which seems to be pretty illogical. Kind of like, he told the truth about his name being Steven so therefore he is telling the truth about whether or not he can turn donuts into flying saucers.
So, therefore, while I can't necessarily say that I reject God(any more than I reject leprechauns and even invisible rabbit friends), I absolutely do reject the idea of any bible gods as real, intelligent, all-knowing beings.

I just received an invitation to my cousins wedding. He is a JW, and used to be a close friend. I am thinking about going to it, but I have a couple of issues.
1. It is in a Kingdom Hall. Not just a Kingdom hall but the one in the town where I live. I was reinstated maybe 3 or 4 years ago and aside from my mothers funeral, that day (reinstatement day) was the last day I voluntarily went into one of those places. I don't count the funeral service or whatever it was as voluntarily going, such as a wedding or for god forbid, a meeting. I really hate kingdom halls. I eventually moved out of that halls territory.
2. My cousin did not attend my wedding last year (he was invited). I was obviously not married to a JW, but we did not get married in a church or anything. It was a simple outdoor affair with a JP. The only relatives of mine who attended were my two sisters, a couple of non-JW relatives , and my JW step-dad (he was late and only got there for the reception but I won't hold it against him).
I missed his twin sister's wedding about a year ago and feel kind of guilty about that but I really hate kingdom halls and wasn't as close to her as I was him anyhow. Plus I was dealing with a lot of different stuff at the time. I'd like to be the better person here, but I'm not sure if I want to deal with all the old "brothers and sisters" I used to know asking personal questions and whatnot. I also definately don't want to deal with JW's from this area stopping by either. I suppose I could just lie about addresses if any snooping folks get carried away.
I suppose the only naughty thing I do is smoke (aside from the whole being an atheist thing which I suppose JWs would also consider not very good since I'm technically not df'd or da'd). I don't worry about that happening aside from having busybodied fairy worshippers dictate their nonsense to me.
soooooooo, whatdya think? Should I just say "F- it" and go ahead and show up? If I go and people ask me stuff should I be honest and tell them that I no longer participate in any religious idiocy? Or should I just go and say congratulations and then skip out after it is over?
any advice from anybody? Any questions? I live in Southbridge, MA by the way. Anyone from around there?
