Why Most Christians Can And Do Celebrate Birthdays

on another thread they were talking about the lack of joy and mental health problems coming from jw kids not being allowed to participate at class dances, sports and so forth.

the lack of the joyfulness of birthdays is another factor.

why not leave some copies of this in your kingdom halls and assemblies if you still attend.

i have celebrated many birthdays, and observed many being celebrated, and my experience is pretty much the same as blondie's.

but my question to you is...in what way is jehova honored in your celebrations? in my experience birthdays are absolutely about the individual.

i have never heard of any tradition in which god is honored or for that matter even mentioned in any way as part of the birthday celebration.

care to elaborate?

this would be a good questions from readers.......having read several scriptures about how the judges heard judicial case in the public court yard..so that all would see that true justice was served and know why a person was being stoned if it should come to type of punishment...what scriptural bases does the society have for conducting judicial cases in secret and then expect everyone to shun(stone) some one with out knowing what the crime was.

i would love so see what scriptures if any they could come up with.

thanks for the answer. this has turned into an interesting thread and i applaude your willingness to communicate. one of the problem i'm having is i don't trust any of the translations and don't think any of them would stand up to the questions we often apply to the nwt.

back about 8 or 9 days ago i asked what version of the bible you were using as a reference, but you didn't answer...now i see you are provideing a link to the christian apologetics & research ministry online bible. my question to you is---what proof can you provide that their version of scripture is correct and any other version is incorrect in relationship to isaiah 9:6...what is the story on their translation, how many greek scholars worked on their translation, how many hebrew scholars, what text did they transalate? and more importantly why should anyone believe that they wouldn't lie, just to bolster their trinitarian beliefs?

wanda mentioned several times that bethany hughs was given arsenic, and she was...however, a simple google search reveals that arsenic is approved by the american fda as a component for the treatment of leukemia. i'm not sure what the impact on canadian lawsuits this might have, but it's not like these doctors and lawyers made this treatment up and were sailing on medicly unchartered waters.

my ability to hear you is in direct inverse proportion to how loudly you speak... or post.

currently there are no such lists for other places.

ditto to everything brother unclebruce posted. it is important to do these things now. not because the world might end, but because you might forget. terry was correct about there being a chance of not going to viet nam. i wasn't a jw and was in the military from 1965-1968 and the closest i came to nam was amarillo, texas.

clay was convicted in 1967 of refusing to register for the draft so it wouldn't have mattered what the alternates were; he was pardoned in 1971...is that what you were convicted for, terry? i believe pressure was put on you guys to report and register and then refuse to serve in the military or alternate service. but i don't know where i got that idea. clam, the war didn't end until 1975 so as hard it might be for us to take, it must have been the lawyering...at one time i thought it was because it was such an obvious thing, you can't be punished for not doing something against your conscience....almost 40 years later i don't think that because i know you can be punished...

perhaps it is a difference in cultures. he may be the prince of wales but i still think his name is charles windsor...now i may not be of the proper class to address him as such but it does not mean, to me as an american, that his name is anything but chuck. in the culture where he exists does he ever sighn official documents, or credit card reciepts for instance, prince of wales? as i said it might be cultural. by the way what the heck is a moggy?
