Well, I am running short on time this afternoon. I don't know if the WTS has to pay for the congregation's or the pedophile's %. They could hang them out to dry; or pony up for the whole amount. Either way, that's alot of dough.

http://www.californiaappeals.com/civil-appeals-process.html
"The default rule under California law is that the filing of a notice of appeal stays a judgment or order automatically. However, there are significant exceptions, which together seem to swallow up the rule. Perhaps the biggest of these involves money judgments. A money judgment is not stayed on appeal (unless the money is only for costs and attorney fees). In order to stay it, the party who was unsuccessful at trial needs to post a bond or other form of undertaking. The bond must be for 1.5 times the amount of the judgment. Although it is theoretically possible to seek a waiver of the bond requirement, these are very rarely granted.
Bonds can also stay other types of judgments or orders where the stay is not automatic. There, the size of the bond is normally set by the trial court." -

An "Appeal Bond" usually costs the ENTIRE amount of the judgment plus interest/costs.
I don't know California's requirements, but WTS has to pony up for this bond.

American Nuns come out swinging against the Vatican!
by mind blown inamerican nuns come out swinging against vatican in face of radical feminist accusationsby dan gilgoff, cnn.com religion editor.
(cnn) the leadership representing most of americas nuns came out swinging friday against the leaders of the roman catholic church, in the face of charges from the vatican that the nuns are espousing radical feminism and straying from church teaching.. the vaticans criticism of the american nuns has caused scandal and pain throughout the church community, and created greater polarization, the leadership conference of women religious - which represents about 80% of american nuns - said in a statement friday.. the board of the group had convened in washington this week for three days of special meetings, provoked by an april assessment from the vatican that said americas nuns had largely gone rogue and warned that they could be a negative global influence on the church.. .
the vatican report said that at an annual gathering of the leadership conference of women religious, guest speakers who preached "radical feminism" went unchallenged.

I LOVE IT!
Well behaved women NEVER made history.
And, so, I am thinking that it's the JW women who are going to want transparency from the Society on child molesters.
As my mama said, "I didn't carry you all for 9 months, get stretch marks, for the government to march you off to war...." I could hear her now say, "I didn't change your diapers and care for you, for you to be molested and me told by the Watchtower to "shut up" about it. Even though she died a devout JW, she was mad over how the sisters and chldren were treated, and she HATED pedophiles.

First potential relationship since leaving WT, and I've been well screwed over.
by ronweasley inhi all i'm new to this, i joined because from what i can see this is the best ex jw forum out there.. anyway i'm male, 20, live in uk and left the wtbts after 2 years of being a student.. there was this girl called natalya and she has really took me on one hell of a ride.
she was very helpful in my exit, because she often had debates with me and tried again and again to help me see sense.
anyway we dated before i found the truth and to be honest, i never really stopped having these feelings for her even though we fell out a few times.

The pedophile hasn't faced criminal charges. He is a follower in "good stading" despite other convictions of molestation.
If the WTS admitted that the wierdo actually did molest her . . . . then, I wonder if they (elders) would be brought to testify for the Prosecution. The elders ld have to get on the stand and say, "yep, we know he did it." Then, thy would be convicting a fellow, JW man who was in "good standing."
What you are seeing here is a "good old boys" club. That simple.

All of that "alledged" and "claimed" language is really going to bite them in the butts.
Women are most of the congregation. Each woman has come before the WTS elder committee (or knows someone who has). The elders ALMOST ALWAYS makes the woman out to be harlot! The one to be blamed. The one to be reprooved. Why? The elders are in charge. All are men. Everyone above them is men. Eve was the woman. Bethsheba was the woman. All tricked the men - who were "Jehovah's" perfect men.
I think alot of JW women are going to sympathize with Candace Conti. I know in my family, the JWwomen all stayed home for Barbara's NBC report - and I got comments that they hoped the child sexual abuse would stop. But, at that time, it was "small" . . . . even though my family knew of 2 pedophiles. Now, there is www.silentlambs.org listing all the problems. There is Barbara who tried to change the system, and Candace who tried to change the system. And, look what happened to these women. Disfellowshipped, outsted, belittled, called liars, etc.
I think the WTS did a big boo-boo with this press release. They are going to alienate many R&F women. Women, many, smell bull. When you get a woman mad . . . .

I think there are many JW (especially women) who are deeply disturbed by the WTS handling of child and spouse abuse. These women have seen women & childlren shafted. This stuff has been in the news "too much." The WTS is at the brink of losing the alot of followers. They have been losing new converts. Therefore, they have to project an image that they abhor child abuse. But, we know they really care more about the Borg and POWER.
They WTS makes strong statements becuase it needs to.
But in the end, all of this "claims" makes them look alot like Scientology to me. Scientology is always blaming others for false accusations. But, it's the religion that is the common denominator.

The latest on blood
by PrincessCynic inso the local elders where i live recently had a big meeting with the hlc elders and i got a brief summary of what was said.
thought i'd share.. it seems the jws aren't capable of making a decision based on their personal conscience.
they are confused by the whole fraction thing and end up refusing the lot 'just in case' or accepting some and refusing others making them look like idiots.

June 2012 Our Kingdom Mini$$$try: How Can You Give U$$$ Your Money After You're Dead?
by sd-7 ini noticed the june 2012 our kingdom ministry question box, which asks, "what should be kept in mind if we want some or all of our assets to go to jehovah's organization upon our death?".
the article recommends preparing a will so as to potentially distribute "some or all...to jehovah's organization" and gives this concluding advice to trustees of said will:.
"a trustee or executor should be aware that whether the estate is large or small, liberties should not be taken with the assets.

Well, wills usually go in a hierchy. First, the decedants final bills (incluidng IRS, medical, etc) need to be paid. A court oversees a will's final administration, especially if the monies are large. I wonder what the Society is aiming at? Something must be going wrong with the wills.
One thing that could be happening is "undue coercion" type claims. You see, others who don't like the will can claim that a person/entity exerted too much control over the decedent when he/she was alive in order to craft the will to favor another (i.e the WTS). If undue coercion can be proven, such as the WTS sending its own legal counsel to "counsel" the decedent to get an attorney to craft the will (or the WTS legal team actually crafts the will, or the WTS tells the decedent how to make the will and the decedent uses an on-line computer program to generate the will), then undue coercion is easier to prove. In that case, the judge will void the gift to the WTS. Many times, it's the trustee who brings these claims of undu coercion.
