The hardship of being a gay Jehovahs witness.

please spare a moment to consider the difiiculties faced by gay jehovahs witnesses.

i was raised and baptised as a very serious jw.

every waking moment of my day was lived for jehovahs and his organization and for nothing else.

I am so sorry you went through this. I know gay people, and they said they "knew it" in childhood/adolesence. They were just attracted to a teacher/adult/older sibling of the same sex, the same way heterosexual kids had crushes on the opposite sex. Now, a good playment of mine from elementary school is openly gay. I've met her and her girlfriend when they were in town. Another gay friend of mine just got married. My spouse & kids all went to their wedding. We just adore these other two ladies. There's so much wrong in the world, I don't see the deal with denying two homosexual adults the right to marry to cut down on legal bills.

If you were to read all four gospels thoroughly in search of Jesus’ teachings on homosexuality it would be a futile endeavor. Not only would you come to the end of the gospels without finding anything attributed to Jesus on the subject, you wouldn’t even find a single reference to the issue in any context.

In fact, there are only a handful of references to homosexuality in the entire Bible, but they are found in the Old Testament and Paul’s writings. (To put it in perspective, while there are only seven references to homosexuality, there are hundreds, perhaps thousands, of references to economic justice and the laws governing the accumulation and distribution of wealth.)

Jesus’ silence on the subject suggests that an issue which can be controversial and/or fraught with emotion these days was simply not a central issue in his lifetime 2,000 years ago in the land of Palestine. The fact that he didn’t address this issue leaves us all to ponder what he might say were he here today.

i left the organization 17 years ago.

like so many of you, i had endured less than christian behavior from the strong cliches that ran our congregation.

The doors at Bethel were closed, with the GB just passing THEIR lesson through the animation department's door slats? That sounds efficient top-down communciation. , with no means for the animation department to ask questions of the GB!

Pets aren't people, says speaker at Regional Convention. Fido and Mimi better watch out! And instead of drinking wine or beer go do some gardening or play golf.

a big discussion driving back from the regional convention about what exactly was meant about pets.. the warning was obvious to me.

don't get pets, they cost time and money and you would do better to spend your time and money supporting the organization and going in field service.. as to the wine and beer, because the bro during his soliloquy admitted that the first thing he would like to do is relax after a hectic day at work with a glass of wine or beer, his conscience was traumatized.

however he came up with a perfect idea, he'd go tend the garden (obviously a solution for a married bro) or hit some golfballs at the driving range (maybe he's not married).. maybe jesus should have told the wine guzzlers at cana to sober up and go till the fields.. .

There are two sides to the pet story. I've seen the hoarders. I know a JW who has spent 75% of takehome pay on the care of multiple horses, cats, and dogs. As a result, this JW lived with others, not able to pay a dime towards housing or related costs. I still think everything with moderation, and the WTS has a point here. Alot of peope in the WTS are emotionally needy people and a few have a tendancy towards hoarding. Hoarding is not good for the person or the animal. To own a dog, cat, horse, or any animal, you have to be ready for emergency medical. That means having an extra few thousand available. The ER pet hospital will not admit my dog until I paid them a $1,500 advance. And they used that up on me within 24 hours of "care" where they did nothing but take a few blood tests and give an IV. The doctor then wanted another $1,500 for the care of my very old dog for the next 24 hours to see how the liver functioned. I made the decision to put him down. Based on him being 15 years old, advanced cancer, and liver issues.

i think that if you can afford to care and spend time with the animal, then all is good. My fido is here with me right now. He takes about 1 to 2% of our income.

I was 36 when I started posting here. This weekend I celebrated my 50th birthday!

it was a cracking barbecue party for around 40 good friends and neighbours as well as my 'never jw' cousins and one of my brothers and his family.. .

drank a bit too much, embarrassed my kids with some 'dad dancing' and laughed until 2 in the morning.

Thanks for posting this. I know a few JWs who devote way too much of their time and money to animals.

My pets cost me about $60 a month. That could be $60 a month more to the donation arrangement!

The history of the real Boston Tea Party is a very good read. http://www.amazon.com/Defiance-Patriots-Boston-Making-America/ is a good book.

If we don't know history, we are bound to repeat it. Becuase i no longer believe Jehovah is going to fix the ship, I read history a few hours every week. The Boston Tea Party is a good start. The issues in the Boston Tea Party helped to frame what we wanted our country to look like, and not look like. It was the beginning of the setup of the rulebook/playbook. Becuase we have a relatively good playbook, we have a higher standard of living than many other countries. And, our "women's issues" are nothing compared to other countries whose laws really disfavor women.

Again, HELL YES, I am proud to be an American. About the only other countries I'd want to be is Australian (cool accent), Canadian (hockey), Swiss (ski), or italian (my artist side)...speaking of being italian and patriotic . . .. .

Yes, and I love history for the first time. Real history. Love history books and documentaries. Before, I didn't put much stock in the world's history becuase it was going to end. Now, I am part of "the world" and want to know its history. Or, I'm just becoming an old fart. Old farts like history.

I like the song, "My Country Tis of Thee". Do you know that my middle schooler didn't know the song? They aren't teaching it in school! I was floored.

I love that we have a 'border problem'. Why is that? Becuase our government is able to set up a system to take care of its people and allow each person an opportunity to succeed. The greatness of a country is its ability to take care of the poor and children, and provide the means for upwards mobility. I wish we could export this to other countries, but their legal system is too corrupt. They want to come here. That, is a compliment. NOT a problem. Yes, I am proud of the United States and a proud citizen to live here.

So Happy to Learn About Homemade Weed Killer

three days ago we mixed up the recipe and sprayed the driveway cracks and several places where the weeds have been hard to get rid of.. today the weeds are dead just like when we've sprayed commercial weed killer.. mix one gallon white vinegar, 1 cup salt, 5 to 6 tablespoons of dawn dishwashing liquid.

note: don't spray if it's fixin' to rain, wait for dry weather so the stuff will stay on the weeds.

and don't spray where you want anything to grow ever!.

Tangent topic, we use alot of homemade recipes. Check the internet.

Floor cleaner (espeically on tile) 1 gallon hot water to 1/2 cup hydrogen peroxide. No residue and kills germs and whitens grout (over time).

Countertop cleaner: Great germ killer. About 1/3 bottle of water, about 1/4 cup of vinegar, and about 3 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide is how we make it (check on internet for other). Hydrogen peroxide mixes with vinegar to form a weak acid that fights grease great and sanitizes.

in early june, i noted a report in newfocusintl ( a nk watcher news sheet, probably us or sk financed) that the central committee of the korean workers had issued an internal decree stating, abandon the chinese dream!

the statement was apparently isued revealed to higher ranking party cadres.

i knew there seemed to be internal debate in nk over china's encouragement to move to a market based economy and that were some signs in nk of that happening.
