Need some quick advice...

my biweekly jdub visit is coming up here in a few hours, and i could use a bit of advice.... the lady knows i am a big time doubter, but she has some sort of personal mission to get my husband back into the truth (it makes me sick to write that) and get me in as well.

she comes by at the exact same time every two weeks to drop of the new wts, reads some scripture, asks how i'm doing, blah blah blah.. i'm pretty polite to her, but i'm ready to kick it up a notch.

any suggestions for something i could start with?

She comes by at the exact same time every two weeks to drop of the new WTs, reads some scripture, asks how I'm doing, blah blah blah.

I'm pretty polite to her, but I'm ready to kick it up a notch. Any suggestions for something I could start with? I want to go slow and steady. I don't want to run her off, I want to open her eyes. She is the one who converted my MIL and maybe if she leaves, my MIL will leave, and then my hubby won't feel so guilty for not being active any more. A long shot, I know, but I want to give it a try.

Oh hey, while I'm here, I wanted to ask if there's any JW literature/CD ROM stuff that could be helpful to anyone? DH has led MIL to believe that he's still quasi-JW so she'll send us anything we want. She's got 4 huge bookshelves in the basement full of every thing she's ever received since 1978. Which is weird, I thought they were supposed to get rid of old stuff?? Anyway, if there's a particular thing anyone's looking for, let me know.

my dh was raised a jw but hasn't attended a meeting since he started college (5 years ago).

he despised meetings and slept or doodled in his wt through at least 99% of them.

Wow, thanks Legolas (and Skyman). That is excellent. I'm printing it out for DH to read tonight. I'd love to give a copy to MIL but I think she'd probably tar and feather me.

I'm pretty new here, so let me give a quickie cliffsnote version of my situation. My DH was raised a JW but hasn't attended a meeting since he started college (5 years ago). He despised meetings and slept or doodled in his WT through at least 99% of them. He's in a weird position right now where he can't defend the JWs (because he barely even knows the doctrine), but basically believes that they've got all the answers, its just his fault that he doesn't have the drive or motivation to be active. My heart aches for him because I know he's feeling all this guilt for no good reason.

Anyway, I decided to do some research and try to figure out exactly what the JWs believe, prove it to be a bunch of bull, and then convince him. Please don't tell me that he needs to do this for himself. When it comes to religion, he is absolutely paralized by fear, and for his sanity (and my own) I need to help him fight his way out of this.

Okay, here is my question. The other night we were watching some TV show and this guy was making blood sausage. He tells me how he has had it before and it wasn't that bad. I'm like "hold the freaking phone here! You'd die rather than get a blood transfusion but you'd eat something made of blood????" He goes on to tell me that the animal blood stuff is outdated and all we need to worry about now is human blood. This cannot be right. Can someone back me up on this?

I'm sorry this is slightly off-topic, but does anyone know what the official guidelines are for how to behave around a family member who was never baptised, but now no longer considers himself a JW?

Wow! Thanks guys, for the warm welcome. I was (for some weird reason) nervous about posting, maybe because I was never a JW myself, but you all have made me feel right at home. Thank you.

Okay, off to study the "best of" section. I'm gearing up for a "Big Talk" tonight after munchkin is in bed.

Hello, I've been lurking around for a few months now, finally registered a few weeks ago, and figured it was finally time to post. First of all, let me give you a little background so you know where I'm coming from. I'm 24, married to my soulmate, and mother to a 2 year old boy. DH was a JW his entire life. His mom came into "the truth" when she was pregnant with him. His dad is not a dub, but will go to memorial, doesn't celebrate holidays, etc etc. MIL has FIL by the balls, but thank God he stood up for one thing in his life- he refused to let my DH and his siblings to get baptized until they were 18 and could make the decision for themselves. (And none of them did- big suprise!!!) The reason I'm here is to help my husband. He doesn't go to meetings or anything like that, but he is so incredibly brainwashed by the dubs and he doesn't even know it. He slept through all the meetings his whole life and only caught bits and pieces of their doctrine. All he knows is that whatever the JWs say is right! I know he knows deep down that there are some big-time problems, but he is so guilt ridden about having any doubts. We'll be having a conversation, and he'll say one bad thing about them, but then he'll make up for it and say, "well, I mean, look at the Catholic church though...." blah blah blah, typical JW bulls**t, side step the issues. I have studied off and on for a few years to appease the Beast known as MIL. (Never again though- knowing what I know now!!) It is terrifying what a slippery slope they lead you down. I know all about the love bombing and the tricky logic firsthand, so I don't blame poor hubby for being misled. I just want to help him find his way out for good. I just want to thank all of you guys for your knowledge and willingness to share it. I have learned so much already and am looking forward to learning more. Also, looking forward to getting to know you all better. Thanks. PS- Hope I posted this in the right place!
