Assistance needed on issue of birthdays

i am currently reviewing various doctrines of the wt.. would it be possible for this thread to focus completely on the issue of birthdays and avoid other subjects & also any digs at the wt over their current policy.. personally, i believe that birthdays are acceptable but i need concrete reasons / facts to counteract the arguments provided by the wt for their refusal to celebrate birthdays.. thanks .

Thank you to all who have contributed to this thread. I am going to review everyone's comments and pull a document together for reference. There are many good reasons to review JW doctrines in this forum, for example: you guys\girls have a lot of knowledge and experience and help to put a balanced perspective on things rather than the one sided JW view. + I need good sound arguments to refute JW arguments. There are others which I will discuss later.

It also helps me in my research of JW teachings.

Blood/Big News article

Ezra, please could you let me have a copy of the letter you sent to bethel and their reply if possible...I'm having a lot of difficulties with the blood issue - it is very inconsistent and the more info I have the better informed I can be,

Is repititive imprinting of ideas a primary cult tactic?

in a post by syn that lady lee has brought up again, there is this statement by syn.

i could underline my watchtower in 10 minutes, tops, and be sure that all the answers were right.

many esteemed researchers have shown that repetitive imprinting of ideas is a primary cult tactic, and i tend to agree with them.

Thanks for everyone's welcome to the site.

What I find remarkable about this post is that SS is already casting judgments on my character despite the fact that I've only posted once so far.

In life I've realised that to judge someone adversely prior to engaging in constructive dialogue is folly. Inevitably the person prematurely judging normally ends up in a situation in the future where he/she needs mercy/forgiveness from the one he criticized and judged!

In SS's case, how would you feel if you had some doubts about the organizations teaching which you were unable to reconcile? To be branded an apostate for having a doubts is unfair. How would you feel if you for example felt you could not accept the organizations previous understanding of "the generation" term. If you were branded an apostate for a view which was contrary to the organizations published position, I'm sure you'd be upset. Then the organization adjusts its understanding of "the generation".....your views are exonerated. Those who branded you apostate would surely feel at the minimum embarrassed and would surely want to apologise to you for such a negative label.

This is how I feel about certain teachings - that they are not solidly based on scripture and may well change in the future. I am open to new ways of thinking to enable me to determine whether there is another way of viewing certain texts which I have trouble reconciling. Hence my reason for reviewing websites as a research tool.

So please SS, refrain from trying to stain my character before you know even a single thing about me. I am not "thin skinned" as you suggest. I am simple a mature adult who is able to respect others and converse and reason with those adults without having to label people negatively. By all means think what you like about me. But please do not make insulting and unsubstantiated statements about my character.

Good evening everyone. I am a practicing JW who is concerned with some of the doctrinal issues the slave class presents.

I was browsing this site, read this post, and decided I had to respond.

My reasons - Sweet Scholar - I am absolutely appalled by the way that you speak to people on this forum in your mails. Like SNG said in an earlier post, many hundreds of people visit this website, will have read your comments and will be disgusted by your nasty remarks, I am extremely offended and embarassed to think that you are trying to reason with individuals on such a basis.

My suggestions to everyone would be: 1) Keep focused on 1 topic - and 1 topic only rather than many different topics which inevitably goes nowhere.

2) Sweetscholar - learn some respect for others viewpoints - remember that your ultimate goal should be to win people over to your arguements not push them further away - Jesus may have called the Pharisees "offspring of vipers etc" but the advantage Jesus had was that he could read people's hearts and knew what they were like inside - you can't and you certainly do not know people's background on this site so you should be slow to condemn anyone, let alone start name calling.

You may state and consider that your comments are mild and unoffensive. Unfortunately this is not the case. Adults do not need to use deroragotory names\insulting terms when reasoning with individuals.

So keep the comments to the point, use more paragraphs and cut out the name calling otherwise you are never going to get any of your messages across to anyone who comments on this thread or who views it like I did earlier.
