Welcome back. I've always enjoyed your post here, and look foward to hearing from you.
i'm in the middle of reading jesus and the lost goddess: the secret teachings of the original christians and after this i would like to read the jesus mysteries.. i happened to come upon this book by accident, but i was surprised to see just how much christanity has possibly borrowed from pagan religions (i knew that ot stories like the flood were borrowed, but figured the nt was made by some cultic jews).
i also didn't realize that certain letters of paul may be forgeries, or that certain passages in the "genuine" letters could be allusions to pagan things.
are there any other or books or websites on the topic that anyone could recommend?
Thanks for the replies, guys.
I read the 101 Myths about the Bible book a long time ago. I was still a believing JW, and thought the guy was making it up, or the pagans borrowed it . Thanks for the links, I'll look at them later.

Are there any other or books or websites on the topic that anyone could recommend? How much credibility is there to the "pagan origins" of Christanity (not that I really care for personal reasons, but I would like to know anyhow)? Were the gnostic scriptures surpressed by the early church for neferious agendas?
dear brothers, in promulgating your esoteric cogitations or in articulating your superficial sentimentalities or amicable philosophical or psychological observations, beware of platitudinous ponderousity.
let your conversations and communications possess a clarified conciseness, a compact comprehensibleness, a collated, concatenated cogency.
eschew all conglomerations of flatulent garrulity, jejune babblement and asinine affectations.
You wouldn't happen to be related to Jesse Jackson, would you?
Unfortunately, I think your letter was written clearer than those guys think.
shaking hands with death part 3: .
the angioplasty begins: the cardiologist arrived from the other hospital, and started telling everyone what he needed.
more medical staff showed up soon after, and the room was insane ... just like on tv ... short tempers demanding this or that device or assistance, people yelling out my vital readings, and i got a brief glance of the operating room door with people in green outfits, head caps, and face masks bopping in and out.
(((Amazing)))
Once again, you write another piece of absolutely great work. You must have been one of those few JW elders who could give interesting talks.
Your conclusion really touched me, and they mirror a lot of my own views. The only "gods" I care to respect are those on earth that make a difference in our everyday lives, not some guy who's existence is yet to be proved. If it turns out there is some "guy in the sky", I'm sure he'd appreciate your sentiments, and would not have wanted you to spend your time worrying about his approval, but about appreciating the people who care about you.
I'm sure if you've ever fantisized about a young, attractive woman handling your genitals, it would not be under such circumstances . Anyway, glad you're doing OK, and I hope you continue to inspire us all with your writings for years to come (your story on freeminds.org about how you helped your family out was one of the first I read on the net, I've thought highly of you ever since).
many people in these forums claim they are uninterested in rumors.
a claim that can easily become hypocritical.
nevertheless, these people demand strictly the facts!
Well, I guess since there's only one black GB member, the 8% that lives in the infirmary full time must represent the same number. Who is it?
my mother called me again to talk about dateline and the fall out at the cong.
she said the elder (or guy giving the talk-i am not sure if it was book study or a meeting) read a letter from the society saying: .
"it is all apostates who are doing this".
I was at the Service Meeting yesterday, and while the "2 witnesses" rule was reiterated, nothing was mentioned about apostates trying to destroy the organization (except in the closing prayer, where the brother said :"the media is attacking Jehovah's people", but not specifically apostates).
The "2 witness" rule is clearly quite idiotic in this instance. How the hell do the brothers expect there to be more than one witness to this type of crime? I have to believe the Watchtower simply does not view child molestation as a real problem, they don't seem to realize that child molesters are very sick people. They think that if the elders speak to the guy, give him a little spiritual "oil greasing", and send up a couple of inane prayers, that the problem will be solved. Clearly, they should always go to the authorities when a victim comes forward, and not only when required (I wonder why all states don't require clergy report this stuff, BTW?).
I was discussing this issue with my uncle after the meeting last night. He thought that the Society's advice was fear and scriptural. So I ask him "if you had a child (he's childless), and he/she came to you and told you that someone had molested them, would you pull them aside and quote the '2 witness' scripture and dismiss them if the abuser does not confess, or would you go directly to the authorities?". This had him stumped, of course, and he had to admit that the "2 witnesses" rule may have some problems, and that he himself may have trouble applying it to a situation if he was personally involved. So I told him you couldn't be angry at the Dateline people for coming forward, because they clearly have a legitimate beef with the Society (he saw the show, and he was of the opinion that the main reason they went on Dateline was to disparage the Society, that the molestation issue was their chance to do so [>:(]).
BTW puffs, are you sure your mother is ready for CoC? Have you sensed enough doubt in her? It could backfire if she is still too indoctrinated, but clearly she is starting to think for herself, so congratulations.
alanf seem to suffer from ego centricity disorder.
people in thisn place have patted him on back too much it went to his head.
he think that cause he can shuffle a few figures and write terrible papers on evolution book that he ok. he needs humble self and quit taking praise from people.
I understand he is trying to use "ignorant/genius" humor but his form of "psychology" is ludicrous and about as annoying as trying to shave your cat while coordinating a blood drive/fortune telling party/orgy at your nearest Kingdom Hall.
Speaking from experience, Moe?
If he's trying to be funny, he's doing a terrible job.
why is it that quite a few of the people on this board have a caricature of you know's picture?
is there some particular reason, do you guys admire him that much?
Seriously, is there some reason for it?

i just spoke on the phone to amazing (jim whitney) who is in intensive care in a chicago hospital.
on monday he had a major heart attack, had a stint put in an artery to unblock things and may have bypass surgery.
he's comfortable enough right now, but of course will have to make some big lifestyle changes.
(((Amazing)))
Sorry to hear about this. I hope you get better soon, we'll miss you while you recover and may your surgery go well.
