not really sure. I've only lived here for about 4 years. It's nice and quaint. There are some cute shops downtown, but the restaurants have a hard time staying open.
I never became a witness. I studied for a little over a year and stopped. My teacher really thought she would have her first student baptized and I kind of felt sorry for her, but I still couldn't go through with it. I went out in service about 4 times. She still calls me every 3 weeks or so and is very nice to me, but I don't really know what to say to her anymore.

JWD - Balls of the Year - 2006
by Dr Jekyll inok so its a bit early in the year but hopefully this thread can be kept alive with nominations through the year.
1st nomination goes to the guy who videoed the elders at the door telling him that he had been disfellowshipped.
sticking a video camera in their faces and asking awkward questions took balls and he certainly made them look like idiots.

anyone have the link to RichieRich's elder's manual. I can't pull up his topic history to find it. None of the topic history's are working for me today for some reason. Anyway,Thanks if someone can post it or tell me where to find the manual with the elder's notes on them

I'm in the same boat! I stay away from pills because I'm afraid of what they could do to my heart and other organs, everyone's different. what didn't kill that person, might kill me! anyway, my sister(lynnmelo) and I have started the "NO S Diet". (nosdiet.com) . It's pretty basic. No sugar,No seconds, No snacks, except on "S" days which are Saturday, Sunday, and Special Occasions. I've been on it a week and have already seen a decrease in my heartburn episodes. I have a horrible sweet tooth, but it wasn't really that hard because I knew that I could have something good on the weekend. I didn't go overboard on the weekend, but I had that "thing" that I had been wanting all week! With other diets, I felt like I could never have anything sweet or I would be cheating, but with this I have something I can look forward to. Still haven't started a regular exercise program yet, but I'm going to try(maybe if I didn't spend so much time on the computer?). Anyway, people on the website have had good, moderate success. I don't care if I lose just 1 pound a week because I'm more likely to keep that off if it's a gradual loss. Good Luck!

Bible Studies that left the JWs before baptism
by greendawn inmany persons studying with the jws go ahead and get baptised, but many others do not, do you know such ppl and the reasons they gave for stopping contact with the jws?
they did of course the right thing and spared themselves a lot of potential trouble and exploitation in the future.
a person i knew gave up all contact with the dubs after a year of studying with them, because she found them to be too pharisaic they put a lot of demands on the members but don't do anything to help them, like modern day pharisees.

I studied with them for a little over a year. I could never get the whole faithful and discreet slave thing. Everything else hinged on that one thing. I ignored it for awhile, but it kept coming up again. The talks at the meetings and conventions made me sick. They kept the "obeying" the slave doctrine in your face all the time. Also, their arrogance that they just couldn't be wrong.Sure they liked to say that they had been wrong in the past, but you are supposed to trust in them anyway and do what they say. I went along until I finished the knowledge book and then told my teacher I didn't want to continue. I even had a couple of meetings with her to discuss my concerns but then said -forget it, what's the use! she's not going to convince me and I'm not going to convince her. So now I've quit everything. I've just got to see her one more time so I can return some of these many books and tapes. After all, I won't use them and they were free to me. Some other poor soul can use them!

I only studied for a little over a year, never baptized, but I still believe the core doctrines. No trinity, hellfire, immortality of soul. I do believe in a paradise earth. this is what makes it hard. I stopped going to the KH, but I still want to find someplace to worship. I can't stomach through some of the "regular" churches. A lot of them are to the other extreme of the witnesses. Any other religions that have some of these core doctrines aren't anywhere near where I live. Any ideas? send them my way!
