so my english class just got handed (yesterday) 1984, by george orwell.
its a book i've been wanting to read for a long time, but haven't been able to (i read non stop for english class).. so i was really excited when i got the book.
from what i've heard about it, it seemed like it would be really pertinent for people in the watchtower.. all i can say is wow.
No one thought much of the book when it was first published in 1949, nor, in fact, did it stir much attention for a number of years thereafter. In the last two decades, however, the book 1984 by George Orwell has drawn a much greater reading audience. Orwell portrays a Society brainwashed by political ideologies to the point where they are intolerant of any other mindset. Ironically, though the chances are slim today that any political organization could ever have such absolute control over people's lives, religious cults have taken up the slack. For an absolute ideological system to really work, all of the subjects of such a system must not only believe in it, but be enthusiastic about it. Even in Communist Russia, which once almost paralleled Orwell's world, it is impossible to win all the people over to their ideology. Yet true thought control has been achieved in religious circles in a way that would make politicians envious............................more

The thing that strikes me is to total absence of anything related to Biblical direction. Of The three great commandments; 1) Love God with all your heart and; 2) your neighbor as yourself; and 3) thou dasn't do anything that would bring reproach upon the WTBTS, the only concern seems to be on the third which means df'g anybody with a problem, thus allowing the pristine organization to think it's doing God's will while ignoring the instructions given in Matthew. As for the secular authorities, I frankly don't think it's any of their business. You weren't dealing with criminals, but with people who needed help. This is the great crime of the WTBTS, routinely handing down criminal sentences when what's needed is prayer and confession.
if i told you that something bigger is on the horizon than dateline, bbc, cbc, sunday (australia), and all other tv programs which exposed the sexual child abuse cover-up by watchtower in 2002-2003, would you believe me?

like most people, i have family and friends who are jw's (including my wife and parents).
fading is generally the best method for people in that situation.
Yeah, so what does happen next? Do you all become Catholics, Lutherans and Baptists again? I did the disappearing act some time ago. I guess the congregation must think I'm dead as there hasn't been any effort to contact me. I've still got my cell phone number. But back to the issue of what next? I left because I had some place to go. If I didn't, leaving would have been pointless unless I just wanted to be a-religious. For me it was a question of graduating to the Bible Students. Maybe with the news that came out last night, Babylon will come down and all the disaffected x-jws and current jws will get reconnected with their roots. Does anybody have any idea how many df'd there are who are alive?
