I know, I said I was leaving this thread but I left my car keys on the little table by the door, soooo, since I'm here I would like to ask - How many of you feel that we Americans got what we deserved on 9/11?

Extra training ... so you know that shooting babies is WRONG ?!?
by Simon inhow dumb and pathetic.. no extra training should be necessary for even slightly trained and disciplined soldiers.
i guess it is for some of the rabble that the us call "troops" though.. of course the real problem is not just those on the ground that have committed the latest attrocity.
it is the chain of command that tried to cover it up and all the way up to the president who sanctions bombing of civilian targets with nothing more than rumour for "intelligence".. from now on america, you are on your own.

Abaddon,
The 'you sound angry' comment was intended as a little dry wit. I have had this comment pulled on me before and it is such an obvious ploy to put the other person on the defensive I think it is kind of funny. Sorry
As far as America being all fucked up and not helping anybody else in WWII and being bloodthirsty and corrupt and so on, I've said my piece on this thread that has become a circle jerk for people that don't like Bush or America. Have fun with each other.

Overheard in a public library
by under_believer inwhen i was a kid, my parents (strong in the truth: father elder, mother regular pioneer) encouraged me to read.
in reality, they could hardly have held me back; i come from a long line of bookworms, including my father.
books were like water.

"One of the women was especially animated, I could see her eyebrows and face expressing great ecstasy and pain during her prayer. When she finished there were tears in her eyes."
Wow, excuse me while I pick up my coke and pizza and slowly walk backwards to the other side of the food court!

Abaddon, (you sound angry) interesting list. Not quite sure who came of with the rating system or what ax they were grinding but I suspect it's quite similar to how various judges in the Olympics come up with scores for ice skating competitions!
Here's something you may have overlooked about the list. Note the countries marked with an "X"
113 Ireland 2.5 X
#114 Belgium 2.4 X
#115 Germany 2.3 X
#116 Hong Kong 2 X
#117 Austria 2 X
#118 United Kingdom 1.3 X
#119 Canada 1.3
#120 Luxembourg 1.3 X
#121 Switzerland 1.2 X
#122 Australia 1.2
#123 Norway 1.2 X
#124 Netherlands 1.1 X
#125 Sweden 0.7 X
#126 Singapore 0.6 X
#127 New Zealand 0.5
#128 Denmark 0.5 X
#129 Iceland 0.4 ?
#130 Finland 0.3 XThe marked countries all had their respective asses saved from either the Nazis or the Imperial Japanese army primarily by we corrupt, mean, selfish Americans in WWII.

Confessions, I'm sorry to hear you gave up on your reading and recording of the Aid book project. I think it might be very enlightening to listen to the tapes PLAYED BACKWARDS!! ( ever notice how a disproportionate number of "anointed ones" had "Jesus Eyes"?)
Maverick: Mark Twain/Sam Clemens was the best! It was reading Huck. Finn/ Tom Sawyer etc at 10 yrs old that set me upon a lifetime of reading books.

I support what the US is doing in Iraq and I generally support president Bush. It has become a popular pastime to bash the US and the President. The really neat thing about this bashing is that you can do it and you will not be repressed. If atrocities have been committed by the US military the country will bring the responsible ones to justice as they have in the past. Perfect? Far from it. But name a country with even a fraction of the power that does a better job of governing with justice and still allows a free press to continue to expose its flaws, mistakes and, yes, its screw ups.
When Simon say the US shouldn't ask for the Brits help again I wonder if that is to be taken as an example of the dry British wit.
Simon, Is it the current US administration or just America in general you seem so pissed off at?

More on Islam and JWs: parallels in the perpetuation of stiffled thinking
by valkyrie inexcerpt (with personal notes) from ayaan hirsi ali's (a.k.a.
ayaan hirsi magan) [a somali-dutch activist-cum-politician] new book, "the caged virgin: an emancipation proclamation for women and islam": .
my parents brought me up to be a muslim[/jw] -- a good muslim[/jw].

It's almost as if the JW hierarchy used Islam as a template for the development of the orgs. teachings. Great post!

The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the J Dub bird, and shun the frumious bandersnatch!
he took his vorpal sword in hand,
Longtime the manxome foe he sought...
So he rested by the tumtum tree
...and stood awhile in thought,
And as, in uffish thought he stood,
the JahooberWock, with eyes of flame,
came whiffling through the tulgey wood,
and burbled as it came!
One, two! one, two! and through and through
the vorpal blade went 'snicker-snack'!
He left it dead, and with its head
he went galumphing back.
"And, has thou slain the JahooberWock?
Come to my arms, my beamish boy!
O frabjous day! Callooh!, Callay!
He chortled in his joy!
(with apologies to Lewis Carroll)

My Friend died
by pratt1 ina few weeks ago i posted that a very good friend of mine from childhood was diagnoised with terminal colon cancer.. we were very close growing up in the dubdum, and we were in each others wedding party.
our kids reffered to each of us as uncle and his kids look towards my parents as their grandparents.. we drifted apart after i left the lie, but we managed to stay in touch infrequently even if only to keep updated on the kids or other family members.. fortunately for me, i was able to spent a lot of time with him while he was in the hospital and hospice, and we reconnected as friends almost like the old days.
on may 19th, although it was the day before my family vacation and i had a lot of running around to do, me and my wife went to see him.

Sincere condolences. If I am understanding your post correctly it seems that this relatively young father has left his family in a financial predicament and the only help available is from XJWs? If they were in good standing with a congregation I would think the elders would step in with more than lip service, as in the parable of the Good Samaritan. Even when I was an elder we had a case similar in the cong. and we "passed the hat". I do remember that it was never even considered to approach the Society for help because they just don't do that.

Greendawn,
Just to read the words "ice cold beer" makes me thirsty!
But, I thought all you Brits liked your suds at room temp? Anyway, I love your beer. Drank a lot of it on a couple of visits. Slurp!
