1984 WT cover, 1914 Gen That Will Not Pass -- How many of 16 alive today?
by FatFreek 2005 inthose people on that cover were supposed to represent a group of people that would still live on into the new order.
in your best guess, how old were most of those 16 people at the time the photo was taken, and how many do you suppose are still alive today?.
remember, that wt was printed in 1984, nearly 27 years ago.

At his age, how'd he get DF'd, and not for apostacy? What could a 90 something year old man get DF'd for?
I'll bet he could do it if he tried. Being a chiropractor he might have been adjusting something and slipped.

POLL: Should a "True Grit" virgin (me) see the John Wayne version 1st?
by Open mind ingregor posted a "true grit" thread a few days ago but i didn't want to read it for fear of "spoilers".
as a jw youth, i was not allowed to watch the original "true grit" because it was too violent.
anyway, on to the opinion poll: for those who have seen both the original and the coen brother's remake, would you recommend seeing the john wayne version first?.

The character, Rooster Cogburn, was created by the author of the book. I have not read the book, but critics say the Coen brothers version is closer to the book. I would suggest seeing the new version and then the John Wayne version. By the way, they are both great movies on their own.

What Songs Do You Find Mesmerising?
by minimus ini love chris isaak's wicked game.
it's haunting.. traffic's low spark of high heeled boys was/is a song that i'd listen to over and over again.
(if i were to ever taked lsd, that would be the song i'd listen to).. i love michael jackson's version of smile.

Mesmerising doesn't mean I like it. The Macarena is a good example. Like Jgnat, I find many of Enya's songs very moving.

Terry,
64 is a great milestone. I was 16 mos old when you were born. Nothing wrong with personal reflections on the past at our age. You may have come to the same conclusion I have - There are things I would do differently but I would not want to live it all over again.
The best is yet to come. Happy birthday.

Sooner, I gave my comment on the thread. Your last comment above is a perfect example of the old playpen "I know you are but what am I?" My, how clever.
Didn't you start a thread recently titled-
We should have a thread where a person could give a brief overview of their stance on any subject without the bickering that normally accompanies.

I suppose it is quite possible that several of these folks were still living 11 years later when the WT flip flopped on their bedrock 1914 generation doctrine. If so, you can be sure it didn't go unnoticed by them as it seemed to have been by most JWs.

A warm welcome. Glad you see the significance of the JW Memorial. It is the essence of their game. You will find the experience of ignoring it to be quite refreshing.

Years ago when we used actual drafting boards, with vellum paper and mechanical pencils it occured to me how much gum erasers made little black rolls that looked exactly like mouse turds. I began leaving one or two in and around the desks of the front office ladies who all had snack stashes in their desks. It only took a few day before they raised a cry for an exterminator and the snacks went into Tupperware.
