The Man of Lawlessness
by Desino inhave anyone thought who is matching best to this description of the man of lawlessness?
the slave class, is one i can think of since they made many additional rules, that not has a solid scripturally ground, about what is right or wrong for a christian.
did jesus told his disciples how to cut their hair or how they should practise sex within marriage?

A concerted effort during a watchtower study?
by mkr32208 inwas thinking about this today!
what we need to come up with is something like crazies 586/7 list from watchtower sources showing the kings list.
then next time they have a prophecy watchtower study we could all go to different halls where no one would know us and have a prepared answer typed up with watchtowerese language something like;.

Christianity and Philosophy - Was it a good mix?
by PeLe, ThE Soccer King inhistory shows that philosophical thinking influenced theology and christendom doctrines development in many ways.
some people like 18th century historian edward gibbons see similarities in plato trinity and nicean creed.
others have seen for instance, in plato doctrine of ideas (that there is a perfect spiritual-like world where the ideal forms exists) or in soul immortality speculations a reference of some christians future hope to be in heaven and not in material world in earth.

Here is a a little something I picked up from my ex psych-major girl. she came home one day, telling me about Socrates. He was considered one of the wisest men who ever lived, and was killed by the powerful people of his city. She told me his big saying was "People consider me wise, only because I realize the extent of my own ignorance." That stuck with me, and I kept that mindset searching the scriptures. I was going crazy trying to figure out why he was such a threat to the powers that were. In my research, I am left with a theory.....He was highly revered and respected, and the other inferior "teachers" of his time were making alot of money selling their "knowledge". Yet he was giving his away for free. Beyond that even , it would be pretty hard to control and lead a poor population of "Socrates', who are wiser than you are. Seems they got what they needed from him, and got rid of him, so they could bend it, twist it how they wanted with no interference. Am I warm yet? Seems he was in good company too. Now, what would happen today, if someone started doing that? Be kind of like the magician who gave away all the secrets awhile back. remember that? Why did he risk his neck like that? Was he paid a bunch of money for it? What would be someones motivation for doing that? Money seems silly as you probably won't be around to spend it. Anyone have any ideas?

Is Satan a philosopher?
by DavidChristopher inwhos truth would he be searching for?
seems kind of silly to search after your own "truth".
wouldn't the object be to have others searching for your "truth" is that a form of worship?

Someone had to have created him. Question you need to ask is why? Don't you have to know "bad", before you can recognize and appreciate "good"

Simple Proof of WTS claims to be "Inspired" Prophet
by crazies in(deutrernomy 18:20-22)
however, the prophet who presumes to speak in my name a word that i have not commanded him to speak or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet must die.
21 and in case you should say in your heart: how shall we know the word that jehovah has not spoken?

Make me wonder why Jehovahs "prophets" didn't do and show others how to obey Jesus' commandment. They need to make up their minds if they are prophets or not. If they are not, what are they? they want and crave that power, but do they want any of the responsibility that comes with it? I would like to get them all together and question them sometime. I tried to, but there is no way to contact them. There is no place to ask a question, or email them on their website. Why is that? Ever wonder who they are? It could be a bunch of 5 year olds for all I know.

So were any bible prophecies true?
by cheeseman ini'm just wondering to what extent the bible accurately predicted future events?.
when i was a good little jw, i was constantly reassured that we could have confidence in the paradise because the bible always got it's predictions correct since it was inspired by jah, blah, blah.. does anyone know of a good website which critically examines each bible prophecy one by one?
what do real bible scholars with no bias make off all these prophecies?.

Do you want your kids to not touch the stove, because they are scared of what you will do them if they do? Or do you want them to obey you, because they have faith that you are telling them not to, to protect them, rather than keeping something good from them? the whip only works when you are standing over them, but faith in you will protect them always. Will it not?

Jesus, the people of his day, and of theology
by drew sagan ini'm sure this has been discussed before on this board, but since i'm new i'll throw it out there anyway.
the watchtower never reveals what the people (mainly jews) of jesus day held as to the afterlife.
it is true that the scribes and pharisees had terrible ideas mixed with greek philosophy and that they stumbled the people.

Well Pete, I can certainly say I am against religous indoctrinanation. The reason, I feel strongly as I do about the bible, is some of the things I have witnessed, and tested, and found to be true. I could give you the whole story but it would take a really long time, please do not think I am keeping anything from you. Lets just say, I prayed and asked for "The wisdom of Solomon", to help the people the JW's had said were condemned. I started a deep search into the scriptures. Threw aside all the garbage I had been indoctrinated with from birth, and started over with a bunch of questions. Along the way I had friends who also have had questions, and I searched for them too. I actually found myself questioning God and his practices. In this, I never questioned Him about being right or wrong, that would be pointless. He is always right. So I had to go deeper, and see WHY things had to be the way they are. Some things would appear "wrong" at first, but you have to find how they are "right". In this search I had to face a few of my own demons as well. as well as warnings to stop before I went crazy. Well, to stop for me be the same as sitting back and watching you and the people I love die. And if I go "crazy" or get killed in that pursuit, I will be in good company. I think i am obeying the commandment Jesus gave us. i also think alot of others who say they are, are not. Remember this, If He knows the future, He knows what I was going to do before I did, and why. Hopefully it is good in His eyes, and I will get my wish. If it is not, I won't. If I get my wish EVERYONE is going to make it to His "rest".
Judas Iscariot.

Well, I would say they would then say the "man of lawlessness" was in fact 1 man, and the "slave class" many, to protect themselves. Where is the "faithful and discreet slave" ever described in the bible as a "class"? Are they also the "Spirit of Truth" Jesus foretold coming? How can the "spirit of truth" be evil?
