  ok, it was sunday.

  this was the day after our large n'oreaster here in pennsylvania.

  we got 16" of snow in one day.

  To be fair to them, they are not all like that. My mother in law used to spend a lot of time simply helping an old lady near where she used to live. When my mother in law died the lady was heart broken and said she had never known such a fine christian lady. Incidently there was no preaching involved.

  So the moral is that there are good and bad among the witnesses just like anybody else.

  The point you made was valid though. Certainly an elder should go out of his way to help, but as I say there are good and bad.

  How accurate is the Worldwide Report

  i was talking with the cong secretary the other day and he told me that all reports are rounded up before they are sent to the society.

  i was just starting to think about how all this rounding up has an impact on the overall totals.. some publishers may round up or guesstimate their figures reporting additional time, congregation secretaries round up the cong report anything from 15 minutes to 45 minutes.

  when you start extrapollating that across all the publishers and all congregations the margin of error becomes enormous.. the report becomes less meaningful each month by the end of the year we are potentially millions of hours adrift of the actual number.

  If the rounding up is for the total publisher report for that month and you had 100 publishers doing 10 hours which equates to 1000 hours, then you are talking about .1% difference.

  However if the rounding up is for individual publishers going maybe from 9.25 to 10 hours a month then that could start to make a difference.

  Attending my mum's JW wedding

  so i have to go to my mum's jw wedding in 2 weeks.

  it's not in a kh but there's still going to be about 40 jws there.

  apparently it's "widely-known" that i'm gay and some jws have even told my mum that it's not wise to invite me because it will make other people (jws) feel uncomfortable.

  Personally I think you should show them that even though you're gay, you are actually a very nice, caring person. JWs automatically think that anyone who carries on a life different from their own is a bad person. You have the chance to show them how happy and fulfilling your life is now.

  Just wondered as well why the wedding is not at a Kingdom Hall

  Christmas, the worst time of year for Jehovah's Witnesses

  the holidays are here and they certainly do present a problem for jehovah's witnesses once again.

  christmas parties at work, getting christmas bonuses, dealing with holiday greetings, christmas carols, decorated trees and houses, santa claus everywhere, christmas candy, sleighbells ringing brings the witnesses into a very troubling and disturbing time of year.how do most witnesses handle it all?

  we will be discussing these questions with former witnesses and active witnesses on the conference call this saturday night, december 19,2009 at 7 p.m. the conference call is presented like a radio talk show program.

  china: the number of publishers has increased.

  in some parts of the mainland, they can openly go door to door without much interference.

  there are actally buildings now used as kingdom halls.

  The figures may have come from the U S Kingdom Ministry. I got some of the U K report from the British edition a few weeks ago. The 2010 Yearbook should soon be out if it is not already and I'm sure we would all appreciate seeing a scanned copy on this site as soon as our American friends get a copy,

  The book,In Search of Christian Freedom

  i have been reading the book in search of christian freedom by r franz.i just finished the chapter on the house to house ministry....unbelieveble.

  he shows a totally different way of explaining the scriptures.i never realized how much the gb slants every thing to it's teachings.they need the nwt to do this.if you haven't read this book,you really should.what i'm wondering if you have read it,what stands out for you.....

  I would just add that anyone with any special privileges in the cong. ie Elders, Mini Servants or pioneers would not stay in those positions very long if they refused to share in the house to house work.

  The book is excellent. (except for it's size of over 700 pages) Every witness or ex witness should read it. It is a real eye opener.

  Is the Door to Door Preaching Obsolete?

  i wanted to get some opinions on this.. the last few years i was active as a jw, i thought that the door-to-door preaching work was the biggest waste of time.

  you rarely got anyone home, those you did get home were rarely interested, and it seemed like a huge waste of resources.. in line with that thought, i was speaking with a gentleman at work the other day - he is a very active pastor in the community, and him and i have gotten to be pretty good friends - we have had a ton of interesting conversations.he recently moved his church to a bigger location due to past and expected future growth.. he was telling me that one of his big concerns was the fall-off of church attendance in our area.

  he had a company actually come in and do a study for him with census information, demographics, etc.

  Dozy is right. There is no evidence that Jesus went from door to door, and the scriptures in Acts that the society uses, shows that Paul and the other disciples taught people in their homes rather than going from door to door all over the area. The societies book the Interlinea version of the bible shows the scriptures are more correctly translated 'in peoples homes' not 'door to door'. In Ray Franz books he showed how his uncle, Fred Franz new this but chose not to make it clear to the rest of the governing body.

  as some may remember, i posted about being dubious as to accepting anniversary presents this year from my super-dub family, esp.

  my older sister.. well we agreed with the consensus on here that it was best to accept with gratitude and this we have done, but i would just like to reproduce what she wrote in the card accompanying the present and flowers.. after the happy anniversary she wrote :.

  "it makes us sad to think of all the anniversaries past when you were part of our christian congregation.

  Well you could say ' it's only a good way of life if I do exactly as I'm told and not try and do something with my life. Frankly I want more out of my life than that. You must admit that any love that is shown in the cong is totally conditional on me towing the line. Well I can't live like that. There is a world out there to be explored and I'm having a great time now exploring it'

  Interesting. She says she is a JW and that she does informal witnessing, which I guess makes sense as she is away so much.

  However she can hardly say she is no part of the world as JWs teach, when her main aim in life is to be the best tennis player in the world. Also her sexy outfits can hardly be called modest as would be expected of a normal witness woman. Still good luck to her. I think it is rearly good that she hasn't let the WT take over her life and she clearly uses her own brain unlike many JWs.
