Discussion with my parents about WTS
by GBSJG inafter reading for a few months this is my first post here.
i was raised a jehovah's witness by my parents who became jw's in the late '70s from field service.
i'm still a jw but doing a lot of researching on the history of the wts.

Welcome to board! It sounds like your parents are actually pretty open. When you have believed something is the absolute for so long it is hard to give it up. It's a good sign they are willing to research and think about things like 607. Your parents may be really questioning the "truth". Just give them time, it is a lot to think about.
Have you checked your local libraries for Raymond Franz's books? You can request books at most libraries. That way the book won't permanetly be in your house for you to hide. Owning the book would be pretty incriminating if your not ready to leave.

A couple of people mentioned the BIG NEWS article that appeared in the newspaper a couple of weeks ago as proof of apostate lies. They never actually said what lies it contained. The article mention Raymond Franz, so some one said that he became too power hungry and the GB had to df' him because of that. Apostates are poisonous. One person said they never can be redeemed.
They also said don't go to these websites just to preach or help people like us or prove the witnesses right. I wonder if PMJ or other believing witnesses will be back after that.

hey stilla,
It sucks to live with jw parents. I can understand. My parents have said i have to aux. pioneer this summer or no more support from them. I'm not sure how I'll get out of it, but we will see. You have to use the resourses available to you. I recomend going to the door by your self so you don't actually ring the bell and talk to others, thats what I do. Or I go with people who have lots of RV's, and I sit in the car I've been thinking about printing of a little pamplet to put inside the mags, but i'm to afraid my parents will borrow a mag and find it. good luck, I hope you get a good car for your efforts.

Dune is a great book. The Hitchhikers Guide to the galaxy is another favorite. I like Star Wars novels, the best being The Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn.

Dick Cheney involved in a shooting
by IP_SEC ini saw this in the news paper today.
busted a gut laughing.. reuters.. washington (reuters) - the white house was bombarded with questions on monday about why it failed to go public with news that vice president dick cheney shot a fellow quail hunter until the day after the accident.. the victim, harry whittington, 78, took pellets in his cheek, neck and chest when cheney fired his shotgun while aiming for a bird during a hunt in southern texas on saturday, and was in stable condition at a corpus christi hospital.. whittington was moved out of intensive care on monday afternoon but peter banko, administrator of christus spohn hospital, said he did not know when he would be discharged.. "his condition continues to be stable ... it's not critical, it's not serious.
he's in stable condition, doing extremely well," banko said.. the accident happened about 5:30 p.m. on a private ranch about 200 miles south of san antonio, where the vice president has hunted previously.

The funniest part of this to me is that fact that he was hunting illegally without a licence. He is going to be issued a warning, citation something.

What hoops would a DA'd person have to jump through to get reinstated?
by unbeliever ini know a woman in my ex congregation that da'd herself years ago and has been trying to get reinstated for the last 2+ years.
i rememeber it was quite the scandle when she left because she sent out some apostate literature and started going to church.
i can't imagine why she would go back to the lie after knowing it's history.

someone in my cong was just reinstated after Disassociating themselves. They went to meetings for 6 months. I don't think they were treated any differently than someone who was Dfed. However, this person wasn't an apostate as far as I know, they had an affair and didn't want to be df'ed. If a person was an apostate it might be different and harder to get in, but it would depend on the elders.

The WT is again reminding women of their "proper role"
by mjarka911 inthe 3/1/06 wt questions from readers is discussing 1 cor 14:33,34 and explains the phrase "keep silent".
after the usual claptrap and disclaimers (like how sometimes women have to substitute for baptized men in a congregation setting) - it concluded by saying women keep silent by "not raising argumentative questions that could challenge the authority of those who teach.
" how do the women swallow this stuff and still feel grateful for "rich spiritual food"?

The issue of women's rights was one of the first things that I disagreed with the WT on. When we have talks on this subject I won't look up the scriptures or look at the speaker. It drives my parents nuts. My mom and my sister have no problem with it. They think I'm weird because I think women are equal to men. They both think that feminist is a dirty word. My mom tried to read that article to me just to make me mad. They tell me I will never get a good husband because I don't like the headship idea. Like I want a JW husband anyway.
